JStokes, you are an idiot. You said: If we have the opportubity to get one of the top 3-4 QBs next year we have to do it. All of them will be better than Geno in the long run. Exactly what are your credentials to evaluate QBs and determine that 3-4 QBs will be better than Geno in the long run?
How do you know Mark didn't trust his receivers? Especially when he had the SAME issues since his rookie year with slightly better talent. The problem is that Mark never progressed and got over some of those issues. Then I can say I don't agree that any QB wouldn't be successful, so between you and me who is right?
So not true, remember the Green Bay game when the receivers had the ball ripped twice by defenders, how about when they have stone for hands and bat the ball up for the pick. What about not running the right depth of routes or to the right spot on the field. Too many variables say it's one guys fault. Also having WFH and the dregs at guard didn't help matters either.
I don't kill nor did I ever kill Mark for trying to make plays. Many interceptions I conceded to the receiver for running bad routes. It is when you hear the announcers say that is a rookie mistake by Mark in year 4 that you know that there are problems. Look at Andrew Luck last year, he is the second coming. Go check out his film against New England he threw a bunch of picks in that game. He also looked terrible in the Jets game. Yet he is a rookie so he is allowed to that. Mark is in his 4th season. I honestly am torn on Geno myself. I don't think he does enough but I think there are flashes of talent. But, I concede that this is his second game. Mark threw 5 picks in a game against the Bills his rookie season. Yet everyone gave him a pass because he was a rookie. Thats how it works in the league. You have to put up with growing pains.
Brady had much better talent last night than the Jets had in 2012? Now I know you've lost your mind. Regarding Football outsiders, they're very well respected and they apply the EXACT same criteria to EVERY QB and every play, as much as is humanly possible anyways. I'll also remind you that in 2010 Sanchez fell apart down the stretch, his luck ran out and those interceptions that were getting dropped earlier in the season weren't getting dropped. How do they count those? Glad you asked. "•We add in plays where the quarterback only escaped an interception because the defender couldn't hold onto the ball (dropped interceptions, which we've been tracking in game charting since 2007). •We subtract plays where the interception is tipped to the defender by a receiver who should have caught the pass. •We subtract Hail Mary interceptions as well as interceptions thrown in desperation on fourth down in the final 2:00 of a game. " In other words a dropped interception has essentially the same rules applied to it as the criteria used to determine a dropped pass by a receiver. And the same metric is applied to ALL QB's in ALL GAMES. So yes, all QB's have dropped interceptions...just most of them don't have as many dropped as Sanchez.
Most of Geno's issues are timing-based, I think. Obviously, receivers need to catch the goddamned ball, but when he puts a throw a little bit behind a guy, or doesn't lead someone quite far enough down the sideline, it just seems like he's having issues anticipating just where they are going to be, and when they're going to be there. There were also some miscommunications, including the last INT he threw. I have a hard time believing that wasn't supposed to be a comeback route, at least in Geno's mind. Considering Hill's track record to this point, I wouldn't be surprised if it was his mistake. Holmes is definitely still having issues, because you can tell he's very slow getting out of his breaks. If he's healthy, I think they have him running a lot more underneath stuff, the kind of plays Gates, et al weren't able to make. Kerley actually can make those plays, right now, and if he was playing last night I think we see a different outcome. I hate to even discuss Sanchez in a thread like this, but I really wish they had just cut him before training camp and been done with it. I'm on record defending him (sort of) in another thread, and I don't think he's remotely close to being as bad of a player as he's painted to be, but it was pretty obvious from the start who the front office wanted on the field. The only purpose served here was taking reps away from Geno with the guys he'd eventually be throwing to, and now we're reaping what was sewn two months ago. I think Geno is going to be a very good quarterback for this team, but some of the growing pains could've been mitigated.
There were a lot worrisome things from Geno last night that Mark haters have been jumping on him from day 1. I always thought marks pocket presence was good and much better than the haters give him credit for. Geno last night had a horrible pocket presence except on the one throw ho took the hit. He had several opportunities to step-up in the pocket last night and make a throw but did not he either bailed to quickly or took the sack not feeling the pressure. You guys complain about Marks accuracy what the heck would say about last night Geno flat out missed several receivers and the Mark cant throw the long ball Geno struggled with last night. The most concerning thing about Geno to me was his inaccuracy on the run a mobile QB needs to be able throw accurate on the run. Bad reads a bad throw here or there is rookie mistakes poorly thrown balls is what scares me. He did make enough good throws to give me encouragement but if he is a fair weather QB he is playing for the wrong team. I just have to say the QB makes his receivers better Bull Shit is finally put to bed. There is nothing Brady could have done last night to make his receivers better and if Mark turned in a performance like that the haters would have jumped down his throat. I will give Geno a pass on that also Gates makes some of those catches Geno's night and the Jets night look a lot better but that is football. Run the fucking ball we have a Rookie QB.
Yep, your second paragraph tells it all. it's all about progression and improvement in decision making.
Those didn't count as dropped interceptions and I doubt under their guidelines that those counted as interceptions either. Yes there are too many variables, but when the QB is as remarkably consistent as Sanchez is in the Interception department and the types of interceptions then you have to look at the QB. One year is an anomaly, 2 years is a developing trend, 3+ years is routine.
You'll notice how many interceptions or near interceptions Brady threw? How many times did Brady hit his receivers on the hands in stride but they dropped? Brady made them the best they could be last night, but the best they could be was shit. But despite that Brady ALWAYS put the ball where only his guy could get it. And that's the big difference between a bad QB and a good QB...If you can't complete it limit the damage by putting it where only your guy can get it.
I apologize LongTimeJetsFan, it just irritates me when I see folks acting as if they are some sort of QB guru and act like they know who will be good and who will not
Geno could not come up in the clutch. Granted the WR's we have, but that's been our problem since 2011.
do you watch a lot of football? how could he trust those receivers in that scheme? Some of that talent is young but it's much better than what we had most of 2012. dropped INts are subjective, I want to see clips. I heard so much about his dropped INTs in 2010 but only a few were really almost caught. There were a lot of diving Dbs or DBs shocked the ball was on them and had no chance to catch. That's why nothing beats watching the game and situations, all these new stats are nice but they tell part of the story.
He threw at least one up for grabs last night that should have been Pick six. he also had several throws that were not accurate. Why because his receivers suck and HOF Qb cant make shit players better so he started forcing balls. No he did not throw multiple picks but either did Sanchez until later in the season.
Yeah it was good to hear, he said this wasnt a learning experience because he believe he belongs. He made mistakes and he has to correct them. I like that he took full responsibility for everyone's mistakes. He called everyone his brothers, which is good...Stephen Hill needs to admit he was poor too
Character in the post conference doesn't explain all the ducks he tossed up last night. Every deep pall was a lame floater. Brady had no issues tossing the ball long so what was Geno's issue? He was constantly behind receivers and failed to pull the trigger a lot. Guys were open and guys were running clean routes at the line -- just doesn't trust himself.
