That's the real deal. Jets need WR's.
I wish Jets cut Clyde Gates.

I don't think that was what I took out of this game.

    1. Geno doesn't look like the future.

    2. That said, this defense looked extremely promising.

    3. OL is a work in a progress - they need blue chip RT and both guards need experience.

All in all, even with a shaky rookie QB and garbage WRs, this team had a handful of chances to go ahead. Once the offense starts performing [be it through drafting stud QB or getting a vet or whatever] you all need to look out. That's what I had to share.

Geno had very little time to work with the first unit during TC or exhibition season. Holmes didn't play at all in pre-season. Kerley was out tonight. Give Geno some time with both of them and get the other TE back and the timing might come around.

I think we have a nice tandem at running back. This O has potentially some decent talent if we can get all the starters in and Geno gets some rhythm with them.

Brady had the same issues. He's throwing to guys he just met.

Geno made some terrific throws tonight. He also had some serious timing issues. Hard to tell if it was a lack of work with the group they threw together or if it was rookie indecision?

The team kind of sucks overall but we have some nice pieces to build on. Enjoy it. The Pats suck this year and we had a great chance to win but the reality is we are rebuilding and they are still better than us at home by 3 points. A ton of Pats fans lost their ass betting on Brady tonight. We killed the spread.

We have no explosive players. ZERO.

That's why it pissed me off to cut McKnight.
I know he had an awful camp, but the the guy was literally the ONLY player on the entire roster who had the potential to make a big play on every touch.

    yup sucks to be honest

we never put our offensive players in positions to succeed

we got a rookie QB dropping back too much
no emphasis on the run game
wide receivers, raw wide receivers being asked to run crisp routes

The defense takes a serious step back if Rex gets fired. The offense is complete trash and will get Rex fired.

Wow. The anti-Geno group is out in force. SUre - he played like a rookie. No comment. How about the Pats fans and their golden boy QB who played like crap too? But that's all because he hasn't had much time to gel with his young receivers, right? Of course, Geno's had all sorts of time to get patterns and reads down with his receivers. Especially considering it's not like he missed any time with an injury.

I'm not convinced (yet) the D is that great, as the Pats aren't an offensive juggernaut this year, and Tampa isn't the 2011 Tampa team on offense either. But they're definitely good. The weather and playing n Foxboro doesn't help a young offense.

If I blame anyone, I blame MM. If you're down by 7+, okay, maybe I get throwing all over the field in bad weather with a rookie QB. But down by THREE?!?! When your running backs have been the only bright point? Run the damn ball.

Obviously the whole camp and preseason everybody was raving abt Gates and Hill. Both gained experience from last season and are playing in a real offense this year.

I'm not Anti-Geno...in fact I've been quite supportive of him coming off this debacle of a game. 99% of this one was on the receivers...not the QB.

Having said that I don't know what game you were watching. Tom Brady played lights out. I think all but a handful of his incomplete passes hit his receivers either in the hands or the numbers. Geno HAS had time with all the receivers that were in the game. He had OTA's and all of Training Camp with that receiver group. The receivers Tom was throwing to...yeah...they were playing with the backups backups!

I got home from work around 1:30am and watched the game. It was a hell of a game but damn this team missed Kerley. The defense played well but man we need someone other than Holmes to catch the ball. Granted the second half was a mess weather wise and NE didn't do much but it was there for the taking. Regardless of the three picks, I was very impressed with Smith and his play. He will only get better as the season goes along. I would like to see him run a little more but the fact that he is willing and able to throw the ball away when nothing is there is great. As a Philadelphian, I know Marty gets away from running the ball but when we did it worked.

I have yet to see an update on Mo Wilk but I hope he is OK.

Yeah, I'm not sure what the Patriots were thinking when they signed just Amendola (injury-prone) and nobody else really. The other receivers are very bad, and I think the Patriots will be vulnerable these next few weeks until they start getting back injured offensive players (Gronkowski, Amendola, Vereen.) Edelman won't be enough for Brady to have an effective offense.

Geno did have some rookie moments, but I agree with you that almost all of the fault lies on the receivers. We need to take some chances on some free agent veterans who are available and see if we can get someone else who is at least semi-decent for Geno. (Braylon if he's healthy). Not sure if Gates is really worth a roster spot at this point..

    Ding ding ding!!!

    (just like last year!)

Most fans can't see what's happening down the field and tend to give the QB too much credit or crap, depending on the result of the play. If WR's can't get separation, QB's can't function, offenses don't move. Period. Geno tonight, Mark last year.

No QB is going to look good for this team until drastic personnel changes happen at the skill positions, '14, '15, etc.. Until then, be patient or enjoy your misery/flaming.

A good team wins that game, but we aren't a good team. We're rebuilding, tough as it is to take, that's the truth. We're going to have good days and bad days. The good side of this is that we aren't a terrible team either. A terrible team would be 0-2. We've made some bad mistakes and lost by 3. It sucks that it was the Pats and they were there for us to beat.

This game is a perfect example of why QB Wins is a worthless stat.

Geno had 3 picks yes, but if Hill doesn't fumble Jets are at least tied, probably ahead.
If Gates doesn't drop the TD the Jets probably win.

But what about the late interceptions? If they'd been in the lead (see above) he's not trying to force the ball downfield with less than 2 minutes (where 2 interceptions came).

Did Geno play well enough to win? Nope, But neither did Brady today.
QB wins unless he throws 3+ TD's are pointless, QB losses unless he Throws 3+ pick 6's or redzone turnovers are also useless.

Wins and losses 90% of the time are a result of the team and not one individual player.
Players can be a plus or a minus or game neutral in whether they help their team win or not.

The running game was working. MM completely lost the balance bt running and throwing. Did he forget he had a rookie QB? Just too many passing plays for a kid who is throwing to the likes of Clyde Gates. Could someone please show Hill how to catch and then run with the ball tucked in? And since when don't we return punts? Did they even come close to blocking one? Just sucks.
