I see that the media is beginning to attempt to justify the Jet win by just bashing the Buccaneers and proclaiming they are a terrible team. Ive seen them ranked 29 or 30 on power rankings. Theyre not that bad... not even close.

Now I understand their coach is a buffoon who didnt have his team ready and seems a bit over his head. But did anybody else think to themselves during that game, "damn, this team is freaking loaded."?

Freeman seems to have regressed, and Im not sure whats going on there... but a lot of that was our D line being all over him. Their 2 outside receivers are monsters, especially Jackson. Doug Martin is an elite running back, and Rex revolved the entire gameplan around stopping him. On defense, their D line is filled with talent and looked every bit as good as ours. I believe their secondary is the most talented in the league, with Revis and possibly the best pair of safeties in the NFL.

The kid David who committed the egregious penalty is an up and coming lb who by all accounts is very good. I honestly believe this is a playoff contender, who probably wont make it due to the conference and division theyre in.

So what do you think, did we beat a pushover like the pundits would like us to think, or was that actually a good team we beat?

they remind me a bit of the Jets a couple of years ago, good running game, good D, let down by inconsistent QB play.

VJax is a more dominant receiver than anybody Rex has ever had with the Jets though, which is a big difference maker.

Overall, we'll find out just how good or bad this team is after a few weeks, they're not terrible just for losing to a last second field goal to the Jets.

They're better than what they showed on Sunday. I expect them to be in the mix for the division/wildcard.

I was thinking the same thing. Besides QB, where's the weakness on this team?

The biggest problem Tampa Bay has is the division they play in. They are a good team but they will get beat up in the division.

They are a lot like the 09-10 Jets. Very good defense, good Running game, bad QB and Revis. Except even inconsistent as Freeman is he is miles better than Sanchez in 09-10. Put this team in a friendlier division and it could be a very dangerous team come playoff time.

I am pretty glad we do not have to play them again this year.

They should be competing for a WC spot in a tough division. I think they are better than what they looked, and like other posters said they have a solid defense and a good running game, the strategy to beat them is to get them down early and force Josh Freeman, a turnover prone QB, to beat you.

What's funny is Freeman and Sanchez were on very simiilar paths in their rookie and sophomore years. Both as rookies were high turnover positions and threw more INTs by TDs easily. In both their second years, their turnovers dropped dramatically, but haven't been able to match that production (or lack of turnover production) in their other 2 years in the league.

That 2009 QB draft is looking very very weak

Agreed and Stafford has the luxury of Megatron, without Calvin, Stafford's prolly average at best, if he isnt anyway.

The difference was notable in 10 Sanchez still had the same bad percentage play rate but he just got amazingly lucky on dropped INTs and recovered fumbles. With average luck he would have been at his normal 26 TOs per year lvl. The other big difference was Freeman was asked to do a lot more than Sanchez in 09-10 and had to play in a lot more adverse conditions. But your right I am not a fan of either although Freeman still does have a shot or potential to resurrect his career in what many might call the Flacco year of his contract.

On paper the bucs are stacked with talent especially at skill posistions.Bucs are a dangerous team if they had a qb

Don't we want them to suck really bad since we have their second round pick next year?

The conditional pick headed to the Jets is a fourth-round selection in 2014, but could become a third-rounder if Revis is on Tampa Bay's roster on the third day of the 2014 league year, sources said.

Good thread...its going to hit quick and die but its a real good thread.

From what I saw..between the hitting (some legal), the Tampa defense will be awesome all year. Thats as quick and fast to the ball as you will see in the NFL.

If you look back it happens early every year to a team the Jets beat. I think it was the Bills? last year or the year before who went on to beat New England the following week.

Im not sure about the Bucs offense but Smith got a great test on Sunday...couldnt ask for a better test. We will run the ball much better against the Pats and it could make a difference.

Nice pick up....all of a sudden the Bucs suck. Their horrendous start had nothing to do with the fact the Jets were after their qb like a freight train...they couldnt run the ball at all. Nonsense.

    Nice thread.

I don't think they're a playoff team, but pretty solid at the same time.

I just know that tackling V Jackson is like catching a wet slippery fish. He's so evasive.

There a middle of the pack team imo. It was the first game and they showed there rust on offense.
Say what they will but there defense is pretty damn good. Darrelle Revis and Dashon Gholston make them pretty tough in the pass game as well.
An there run D will be top 5 once again. The media won't give us credit and that's fine, fuck them.

It was entirely predictable that the media would do this if the jets won. In fact I'm sure you could dig up several quotes of people predicting exactly that.

Prior to the game the media was talking about how easy of a win it would be for the bucs and how the Jets were a great opponent for anyone to warm up with.

It's going to be fun watching them backpedal and spin off the keys make noise this year.
