Oh and Powell is the starter at RB: Brian Costello @BrianCoz 1m Rex says Bilal Powell has earned the right to start at RB but Chris Ivory will play a lot. Says Jaiquawn Jarrett will play at safety, too
i like that they are making official announcements and not letting the beat guys put it out there. it takes clicks away fromthe douches who think they can say whatever they want and still get treated with respect.
Finally news other than the "breaking news" that Geno is starting that they won't shut up about on any f'n sports channel. I'm happy to hear about all of this. I hope Vlad really takes that big step this year. I'm pessimistic, but the potential is obviously there. I wanted Allen to win the job, but definitely wanted Jarrett to play too, so that's perfect for me. I hope that safety ends up being a strength for us this year. It is a huge part of the "make or break" of this season.
First off, I actually have confidence in Vlad, secondly he's been the best LG all pre-season, so well done him :jets:
Vlad is going to get torn apart in the passing game, preseason means nothing against guys that are not at the NFL level. I don't like this move of starting Vlad.
Good for Allen. I remember all the pre-draft magazines and reports had him as a 4th rounder and I was surprised we got him in the 7th (tbh, had never seen him play). And good for Vlad--he's taken a lot of heat but maybe we're finally going to see the player we hoped would be developed. _
I like to make fun of Vlad, but I'm not writing him off. He looked confident in passing in a number of occasions during preseason, and actually made some impressive moves in space that I didn't think he was capable of. I think he is going to have issues, but I think "torn apart" is selling the guy short.
Geno suffers season ending concussion as the Bucs linebacker bull rushed past Ducasse straight into Geno's head...It could happen
I don't see Vlad getting bull rushed by many linebackers. If you picked any other move than a bull rush it would have sounded believable.
Allen was one of my favorite safety prospects. Would have loved him in the 3rd. Even better to get him in the 7th and see him turn into the player I thought he could be. Jarrett was probably my favorite safety in 2010. Absolutely loved him coming out. I wished we had picked the two temple players during the draft (him and Mo). Not sure what happened to him with the Eagles, but Im glad we got him and he seems to have showed very good play as an in box safety. Hopefully Jarrett and Allen can be a good safety tandem for years to come.
I think Vlad earning a starting job (and hopefully maintaining good play) for the Jets is a overlooked positive. If he can be our future (like he was drafted to- he was a project, its his 3rd year and about the time for him to start) at LG, our OL could look very good for the future. Coming into this offseason, we had major question marks for the OL. Mangold and Brick are another year older, we had no starting guards, and Howard showed promise, but is he the answer? I think we have found our two starting guards for the future as long as Winters can prove worthy, and Howard seems like a solid RT. All 3 of those pieces are 26 or younger. Colon provides a solid stopgap until Winters can take over. I think our OL should be a positive this year.
I remember playing arm-chair GM watching the rounds slip by and him still being on the board and with the need at safety I was perplexed as to why we didn't grab him earlier. Was pleasantly surprised when we nabbed him in the 7th. _
I'm willing to give Ducasse the benefit of the doubt. He was impressive in training camp...he looked like a totally different player, confident and strong. I want youth and consistency. He might be the answer.
