Last preseason we did not score a td. This preseason our offense looks leaps and bounds better than last. This season will not be awful as many are predicting. There are just a lot of awful teams in the league. Once old men Brady, Manning, Brees and all these running Qb's get killed the league will balance out even more. We can easily win 8 games and earn a wildcard spot to the playoffs.
Looking around the league who are these great defenses that we should bow down and fear? The offense has moved the ball and the mind of Mornhinweg is a welcome addition to offensive play calling. Abandon ship all ye pussy Jets fans! "we suck because we don't have a quarterback, wide receivers or a running back." BULLSHIT I haven't seen what you are seeing. So far, it seems like we have plenty of players that can get the job done.
Seasons This thread is silly. The Jets have enough players to be competitive and in most games if they can stay healthy. Look for improvement and hope for the best. It way too early to be so negative.
If this team was in any other market you would be reading articles about the young and impressive defensive front that may soon dominate the league, you would hear about a defense that has to potential to be top 5 again this season, you would hear about an improved rushing attack with Ivory/Goodsen/Powell, an offensive line that is more cohesive than the unit that was put together a week before the season started last year, the maturation of Stephen Hill who has been looking much better this pre-season, healthy receivers, Ryan's refocus on the defense, Marty coaching the offense. However in NY you only get the negative.
Bingo! Even with the rookie QB we have the potential to win 8/9 games. You can bet your ASS that if we were in a different market the above is EXACTLY what you would read. Well...for the exception of Goodsen. But, about that defense...exactly! Anywhere else you would hear the Revis argument presented with the caveat that he didn't play for 3/4's of the season as opposed to we have a shit secondary without Revis. People would talk about how we are going from a top 10 defense to a top 5.... Yeah, RIGHT....the NY Jets, with a top 5 defense and above average to good coaching staff, are going to suck so bad it's not even worth attending the games. The NY media should be ashamed of themselves to allow the beat writers they employ the opportunity to cover this team. Cheer up young man...The NY Post is the "Enquirer" of the NY media...to be taken with a whole case of salt...let alone a grain.
He also catches the football he throws? Geno or Simms should be able to get the job done. Mornhinweg should know what he has by now, ready to play. Nuts.
Running a story entitled "Season Dead on Arrival" four days before the season opener in a team's hometown newspaper is further proof of the toxic environment this team plays in. It's shameful. I think our defense is going to be very good, and I don't think the pundits are giving us enough credit on that side of the ball. That should keep us competitive, so long as they keep playing for Rex. If he loses them, we are screwed. Regardless if its Sanchez, Geno or even Simms, our QB play is going to be very inconsistent and that will hold us back and cost us a few games. Our OLine is solid but aging. Our TEs are nothing special. RBs are below average in my opinion. There's potential at WR. Santonio could be limited and although Kerley is quick, he lacks gamebreaking speed. Hill could be special, but he remains a work in progress and I see his development closely tied with our QB play. In short, our offense lacks dynamic playmakers, and we are going to have a tough go of it. On the bright side, we finally have a competent OC. Conclusion - I see us having a top 10 defense and a bottom 10 offense. We are not a playoff team. I can't wait for the season though, especially when we thump Tampa. Overall, I want to see development and I want to see us prove that we are better than media prognosticating DBs say we are. 7-9.
I would be thrilled with 8-8. Not having Coples to start hurts, but I'm hoping D can keep us in games. Glad Milliner is back instead of Wilson (hope he stays healthy and improves). Hope Geno lights it up cause the boo birds will affect him
I'm setting the bar, and my expectations, very low. That way I'm thrilled with a 9-7 season! My hope is that we are going to move the ball more effectively in MM's offense, and that my bottom 10 offensive prediction is skewed by past failures at OC. It was so nice to see open WRs in the preseason, and I am hoping that pattern continues!
this season is about surviving the first 9 games and trying to be competitive - 4 wins would do that. The second half is about seeing if this team has potential and can beat teams that are around the same quality level as them.
Funny thing is all that was said before was have Sanchez in the first half of schedule since it was the hardest and then Geno comes in to save the season second half. Question now is: IF Geno sucks it up against the hard part of schedule, do they have the balls to put Sanchez in to save the season in second half? That would just create havoc!
After the first 9 games if Geno is a disaster you have to say well this guy isn't the future and go back to Sanchez - or they let Simms give it a shot.
I'm looking at it this way - with a legitimate offensive plan thanks to our new coordinator, we can't be worse than last year. There's been a changeover of starters on defense, but except for Revis it ought to be for the better. if we can have faith in Rex for one thing, the D is it. I am bummed that Coples is out to start the year am surprised that the press and our focus is not on that more. (Of course it has to be on the QB fiasco…) Face it, last season we were pretty much without any production from Holmes or Revis, so with Holmes back we are ahead there too. I've supported Sanchez, but we should be excited - not frightened, to see what Geno can do. I think Morhinweg believes in him, which helps. It's too bad it's right away but we are getting what many here wanted all along. CHANGE at the QB position. What's concerned my about this team the past few years has been the inability to pick-up the blitz, and our QB's total inability to burn a team that blitzes us. Odd, considering that's our own defensive philosophy. A sack from Sheldon Richardson, a long run off a screen by Ivory, and many of us will come around to how things are going to be this year and the future. I just hope Geno gets some protection in order to feel comfortable. Remain positive and don't allow the Post, The News, or Yahoo sports ruin the season for you already. Even if we don't have a better record than last year, we have a better team than what finished 2012. There's no doubt about that no matter what the sports media says when they bash us.
My NFL sunday ticket is very much on the line this year. The Jets were virtually unwatchable last year. With the exception of the playoffs the amount of poorly played games overall were incredible. The Jets will be better, they can't be worse. However if this teams wins 8 to 10 games, which is entirely possible in this league, it might be time to consider why so many people waste so many Sundays on what is becoming a terribly watered down product.
Our entire season relies on how Geno Smith does, simple as that. If he plays like he did vs. the Giants we'll be lucky to win a game this year. He needs to show immense improvement Sunday to keep the Jets in the game. Matt Simms is a terrible QB, he had one good series vs. 4th stringers who have probably been cut by now. Look at his college career, guy was a marginal talent if ever there was one, if we ever find Matt Simms behind center God help us, he'll make Brooks Bollinger look like Elway.
Think about how much time is wasted on promotions and advertising. In Europe, there are no breaks in their sports action; only at half time. We get watered down product and Geico over and over and over. :metal:
