If this kid absolutely tears it up against the 3rd string eagles, and sanchez is still hurting? Does he get the nod week one, or would it still be geno? (assuming its sanchez if healthy)

If he goes 22-25, 268 yards, and 3 touchdowns I think he deserves the start.

No, he won't start. He will make a great case to be kept over McElroy though. I am interested in how they will handle the #3 spot.

The Eagles 1st team D is one of the worst in the league......I can't imagine how bad their 2nd and 3rd stringers are.

Simms will secure a spot with a good if not great performance but starting week 1? Nah.

Simms has no chance of starting week 1 barring an unforescene injury to Geno as well.

It's Geno or Sanchez week 1.

A better question: Do fans have to actually PAY to go to this game tomorrow?

No chance he beats out Sanchez and Geno on the depth chart but I do hope that he beats out McElroy.

If Geno still looks unready and McElroy and Sanchez is hurt then Simms should start week 1.

I think McElroy is as good as gone. Simms has far more upside in his game. He needs to work on his accuracy.

Simms is not starting week 1 unless mark, geno and McElroy are all hurt.

I don't know about that. McElroy has looked great in preseason in the past, of course came in to beat the Cardinals last year, he has value.

    What is McElroy's injury?
it's a tough call as he's looked good in preseason as well. If Sanchez is N/A for week 1, McElroy might just be the best bet against TB.
I wouldn't want to lose Simms though.. It's ashame if both can't go on Thurs..

Start game 1...no...play in game 1, quite possibly.

Depending upon Sanchez' health that is... Sanchez clearly won the QB competition...say what you want he looked marginally better than Geno Smith. If Sanchez can't go then Geno does get the nod. But, if you see a 3 or 4 interception game...or he clearly is taking a beating or not effective I could see Simms out there.

Now, some will say "Simms is nothing but a rookie like Geno". And...you would be correct! But, again, call it "my experience" etc...I HAVE played a few downs of football in my day...Simms passes the "eyeball" test.........for now. Let's see how he looks against the Igles 2nd and 3rd string. He just appears more confident and poised. Maybe I'm blind or missing something. Anyway...off that well beaten soap box.

Geno gets the start by defacto draft position. Let's face it...it matters but it would be career suicide by the entire regime, especially Ryan, to ignore if Simms shows a better upside than Geno...no matter where drafted etc... Should be an interesting couple weeks and I'm looking forward to it!

I think they're setting it up to put McElroy on IR and keep Simms.

According to source, Greg McElroy re-injured his knee in practice this week, leading to Harrell signing. Matt Simms starting tomorrow. #NYJ

Simms is the project you want to work on IMO. He has the much bigger upside with that cannon arm.

I can absolutely agree with this as well. I'd have to see him in practice but Simms and Geno definitely have the most upside...whomever has the most is yet to be seen.

from what i've read, it appears geno's just not ready. if you want to develop a guy, isn't it best to avoid the too-much-too-soon thing. let him watch and learn. in the case of your potential franchise q-b, i think you ignore the context and do what's best for his development. and it seems that would be to let him watch and learn a bit. let simms or mcelroy play (assuming sanchez can't go). in the greater scheme of things, this is not a must-win game.
if you're of the opinion that throwing him out there now is good for his development, then, sure, it's a good idea to let him start. but i'd be wary.

Simms and McElroy are both project QBs (3rd on the depth chart). If I were to choose a QB to develop between those 2, I would choose Simms easily as he has way more upside.

Simms is a far more intriguing prospect. McElroy has no future in this league - not with that noodle arm. He's too limited physically.

LMAO, based on what? Simms was so bad he couldn't even start or play in college on a terrible Tennessee team while McElroy started for ALABAMA and won a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

People saying Simms has more "upside" is absolutely retarded, all he has is a stronger arm. That is literally the only advantage he has over McElroy
