    Mike Francessa

    He'z gawt rings.

Actually Coughlin started his pro carreer off by taking an expansion Jacksonville team to the AFC Conference Championship game in only its 2nd year of existance.

Sadly this is very likely. Unless Woody decides to cut payroll and hire his 4th (technically 5th) rookie HC in a row. Of course none of the experienced coaches want to work for Woody anyway so it all evens out.

We dont look "better than last year at this time" and during the season expect locker room melt downs aplenty

First of all. Any coach worth a damn would never come to the NY Jets. There is nothing to gain and everything to lose. The coaches are not the problem. Ownership and how he runs his organization is, as well as kissing up to a media base that believes they are more powerful than the coach with their arrogance and self righteousness. The Jets will continue to lose until Woody Johnson decides to make a name for himself instead of hiding behind the family name trying to be seen as something he is not. He is not a risk taker and he is afraid of ridicule. Unless he grows some balls the Jets will continue as always. He needs to say or have the GM say that Rex is our guy. Period! The focus needs to be on football and how this team can get better. The media doesn't know how to do that, so they should shut the fuck up. Another coach will not change this organization. New York is a shit town to play sports in, because it's more entertainment than sport. Rex also needs to not care about the media as well. Use them. Control how they use you.

There's the Holmgren connection there so I wouldnt rule it out. He'd definitely be the interim guy if Rex gets fired before the season is over.

I like your thinking right there!

    Memo to folks...

    A) Woody Johnson is a tight wad and Rex has TWO years on the contract left...not one. I can easily see going into next season with "lame duck" designation.

    B) Not a single one of the coaches I've seen floating around this thread are an option or a better replacement as far as I can see it. Many of those coaches took years to build their programs and had the benefit of some kind of continuity...even Gruden in Oakland.

    C) I find it classic that we are sitting here in this thread talking about a situation that is no less than 18 weeks away...

    D) I think we're all too quick to bury the Jets this year. I do NOT put an even 8-8 past this team right now...or better if we get a spot of luck. And that record is NOT going to get Rex Ryan fired...only extended.

I think the faster some of you come to grips with that the more we can get back to bashing Sanchez...

After 45 years of no Super Bowl appearances mixed in with several AFCCG losses, I don't see the harm in waiting another 5, 10, even 15 more years for the sake of continuity. It worked for other teams in other eras, maybe it will work for us. Nothing else has. Extend Rex Now!

Idzik and Rex will never get along...I think Rex is as good as gone no matter what the Jets do this year. Cowhers holding out for the Giants. Grudens too smart to jump into this frying pan. The Jets desperately need a hard-azz Parcels type that will say..."If you want me to do the cooking...you have to let me buy the damn ingredients." Someone that can have some say and power over the recent line of intellectual microbe GM's...Who fits that description? OK...I gotta go and break something now...

Woody loves attention. The Jets have been ALL OVER ESPN and NFLN despite being considered a bottom 10 team in the NFL right now. Rex could be safe for a long time. Woody loves this.

I still don't agree that Rex Ryan will get fired. That being said, I'm surprised that no one's mentioned Dana Holgorsen or Mike Gundy from the college ranks. If we're looking at coordinators, maybe we look at Alex Shannahan or Mike Zimmerman. Honestly, it is 18 months out...

Last I know we have over 200M souls that lived in the USA. I am sure if Woody puts in mind to it he can find somebody better amongst the 200M or so who live in the USA

I would be impressed if the expansion team that entered at the same time didn't do the same thing in the tougher NFC but either way my point was about him in NY w/ the Giants after failing late in his jax career then starting off slow here. He was very close to being fired after the '06 season, would have been fired if they didn't go on the run- same thing 4 years later. Sometimes you need to have patience.

I'd go Gruden and Cowher and give them full control. Woody is too cheap though and won't open the wallet for this. As someone else already said in this thread, winning and super bowls are secondary to Woody Johnson. He is a PR spoiled rich kid who probably didn't even like sports growing up. He's one of those tooty fruity NYC/Hamptons social scene whores. As long as the Jets are always in the media (which they are) then he is more than content. Winning is not paramount to Woody, Publicity is!!!

Nah, let's change coaches every 3-5 years b/c clearly that has worked out.

By the way, Weeb won a SB in his 6th season after not making the playoffs each of his first 5. We should have fired him earlier, right?

Walt Michaels first made the playoffs in his 5th season, made title game in 6th year then was fired for off field reasons.

The only coach that was here more than 5 years that shouldn't have been was Joe Walton but let's just keep trying a new coach every few years and let's try a new QB every 2-3 years too.

Rex Ryan should stay and be given a competent offense.

    Aaaaannndddd....Jake gets it.

You do NOT take a coach that has gone to TWO AFCCG's and fielded FOUR top 8 defenses and kick his ass to the curb. You go out, bring in Marty M., and see where that puts us. INCLUDING a couple of drafts to get some offensive talent!

It is asinine to BLOW UP the WHOLE team with a new full regime change when only one of the three portions of the team is broken. You do KNOW that if you bring in a new head coach then Marty is gone as well...so let's make that the THIRD offensive system in 3 years for our young team to deal with. Use your brains.

    Esshhh....
