I'm assuming Sanchez is injured, that looked bad last night on his throwing arm, not to mention you already know what he's going to give you. Geno is no where near ready to run the offense at this point, so we're down to McElroy or Simms, pretty damn depressing.
The O-line was an entire mess all season (and the season before that), and instead of McElroy throwing it to the other team under pressure, which Sanchez did, he held onto the ball. Not saying that's acceptable but saying the kid can't play in the NFL when he made plays that same game you're talking about is just absolute ludicrous. Also I recall some posters in here saying that he did enough to earn the start against the Bills the following week before he was diagnosed with a concussion, and that seemed to be the feeling with the majority of Jets fans.
LAST season. You're right the O line was a mess both mentally and physically. Different O line, philosophy and mentality , more confident QBs
Tattoos are for life and so is Sanchez as long as Rex is here. http://images.search.yahoo.com/imag...12gou9qvt&.crumb=WYpVJHHjdQw&fr=yfp-t-745-1-s
If Sanchez can't start the season it should be Geno. Think about this. Geno faced a pretty good Giants defense. He had a rough game, but we got that out of the way. It wasn't an easy task by a long shot. To start the season we have: 1. Tampa Bay - One of the worst secondaries in the league last year but added Revis. Better but will still have weaknesses to exploit. Should be easier than Giants D. Revis probably won't be 100% 2. New England - Another poor secondary. Good game for Geno to learn. 3. Buffalo - Middle of the pack secondary even though we always light them up. 4. Tennessee - Another low end secondary. This is a favorable start to the season to groom a young QB. Geno should be the man.
Before people start writing off McElroy remember he was under a TONY SPORANO pee wee style offense reminiscent of the Paul "3rd n 14 draw play" Hackett days. Also, to the lets give Geno time to prepare faction of our beloved Jets this guy had since the April draft to gear up. If we cant expect our "franchise" QB to be ready week 1 of THIS SEASON who is to say he'll be ready for his next big game when and if he becomes a starter, like a week 17 game win and your in scenario or better yet his FIRST playoff game. The kid was flapping his gums about how he was first round material, throw him in NOW and let Geno show the tri-state, Jets fans and the anti Jet media that hes week 1 material and stop letting the media ala Steven A Smith(a man who probably couldn't get a job organizing game tape on a internship level at the local high school) run the front office for us. And for Simms, who knows he could be the next Tom Brady but with our luck he ends up with the Raiders and starts a dynasty in Oakland. This talk about grooming quarterbacks is a ancient sports myth much like no sex before the BIG GAME.
Same, he has the arm strength to make all the throws, and showed some leadership ability last night, would like to see him get some playing time, this season is a loss anyways, might as well test out our QB's just to make sure the answer isn't on the roster already. Agreed, which is why I think we should give McElroy and Simms some starting time if Sanchez is hurt and Geno comes out the first 3 weeks or so of the season playing like he did last night. I'd like to make sure Simms or McElroy aren't the answer first before writing them off and this is the perfect season to do so. Imagine seeing Simms or McElroy get cut and going to another team and playing at a top 15 level. I know top 15 isn't spectacular, but after 4 years of Sanchez, I could live with that for the near future.
U GUYS R JUS HATERS N FAGLETS Looks way better than wen sanchez as a rookie alredy . u guys need to learn football n stop being bias wen giving ur opinion
I don't understand peoples infatuation with McElroy. He has no arm, average accuracy and zero pocket awareness. He kinda reminds me of that little retarded kid from Not Another Teen Movie where he finally gets his chance to play and then gets ripped in half by 2 defenders at the goal line.
The usual responses posted by the "knowledgeable" posters on this site. Everytime I see a thread with 'McElroy' in the title or his name mentioned within the body of the thread, I know that someone will bring up the San Diego game and 11 sacks, which is done ad nauseam on this site. I am so tired of reading about it and the meaningless stat! However, I realize it is all the GMac detractors have to hang their hat on, so it is to be expected. If any of you had watched McElroy play at Alabama you would know what kind of player he is and how he can methodically move a team down the field to a score. Just what this team needs at this point in time. No, he doesn't have the "IT" factor, whatever that is, but he does have heart, he does have the ability to move this team without coughing the ball up on every other play. We will not beat ourselves with him at QB. He is a team player (cue the radio show) who will put his body in harms way for this team. He just needs the 1st team in front of him, not 2nd, 3rd or an offensive line that has given up for the season. Let's quit looking for that magical QB the Jet's can never seem to find. For now, put a QB on the field that will just win, not pretty, not flashy, but win. We can still look for the magic, but try to win now. Give the man a chance (San Diego was not a chance). My opinion added to all the others, experts included.
Admittedly, Simms has only played behind the second string against the second string defense but he seems to be the only QB with an NFL arm. So there's not enough to make a decision. It would be interesting to see him play with the first string personnel. With that said, you comment is baseless.
1. For those knocking Simms and GMac for playing with 2s, 3s and potential grocery baggers: Did Sanchez or Geno look better against them? Hell fucking no? Just what the hell are you watching? 2. McElroy taking 11 sacks - Ok. He needs to be coached on that account. He needs to realize that not every down is 4th and 30. He doesn't have to make a play out of every passing down. If nothing is open, just throw the ball away and play the next down. That has been his main problem with sacks; he wants to make a play even when it is not there. Unlike someone we all know too well, he doesn't just throw it up for grabs - he hangs in the pocket, looking, looking - then gets sacked. It is a good trait to have actually, especially when the OL is improving too. Don't treat his 11 sacks as 'This QB is a complete jackass that cannot read the blitz coming.' That is just NOT the case. [And this point was made on his scouting report as well.] So the coaching point is quite clear at this point for him; as any good WCO OC will mention, the QB must be aware of the pocket situation by the third read. He must get ready to either throw on the run, or scramble for his life - and that must be done by third read. If this can be coached, he won't be taking 11 sacks again. [And it is not the kind of massive adjustment like throwing mechanics change. Consider that.] 3. Starting Geno is probably the dumbest thing this coaching staff can do if you ask me. They did that shit with Sanchez and failed real bad already. That is one failed experiment too many in my book.
Greg is not a popular guy cause he told the truth about Camp Circus after his rookie season. The most he can hope for is to lead the scout team as a 3rd stringer. Simms will be the back up until Sanchez can play.
