Schaub is always a good fantasy QB and my point was about TDs. Not all TDs are created equal and that game illustrates that. Who cares if a guy is throwing garbage time TDs? Yep, Romo, Schaub, Vick, Rivers, .... allt hey do is win....fantasy championships Actually I have bashed mark's 2012 season over and over again. I was given a list of the top 10 fantasy QBs from last year- why would I discuss 5 years based on that list? If mark had the weapons those QBs have he'd be a much better #s guy and he'd win a lot more. Not a single guy on that list won more than one playoff game. mark Sanchez twice won 2 playoff games so it can't be that hard since he sucks so bad, right? The best guys do both, they get their teams it postseason and have a chance. There are only a few guys that make postseason every year- Brady and Peyton long term and Rodgers and Flacco recently- has Flacco ever been near a top 10 in fantasy rankings?
Furthermore, the chances are strong, that he'll also be one of the top Fantasy scorers again, this year. So meaningless.
Schaub's never been considered a good fantasy QB what are you talking about? As far as your list- check out the year the Packers won the Super Bowl- great "fantasy numbers" and he won 3 playoff games! The playoffs are ultimately a crapshoot in today's NFL. If we replayed last years tournament 10 times, you'd probably get a different outcome each time- that's how close everyone is(especially those teams with great QB's). If the Denver DB doesnt fall down, who know's what happens after. You can't win playoff games unless you get there first. The Jets have had poor QB play over the last 3 of the last 4 years, the first two we made up for it on defense and a fantastic running game. 2011, 2012 they couldnt make up for the QB. Consistent QB play( vertical passing game, high completion %, low turnovers) is what consistently puts teams in the mix year in and year out. Teams that are expected to make the playoffs this year: New England Denver Baltimore Green Bay Atlanta San Fran Seattle What do all of these teams have in common....
The QB did contribute to the teams success. But so did the RB, WR, o line, LB, SS, FS, d line corners etc. attaching team success to a QB like its a stat doesn't work for me. Too much goes on in a game that can change the outcome one way or another that is out the QB's control. Sanchez was always a bottom of the league QB, I don't see what Sanchez did that was so special that any other QB couldn't have done here especially in 09.
He's somehow trying to prove Sanchez has the ability to "perform his best" when the "lights are brighter" because he can "rise to the moment." What he's struggling to admit though- is you have to be good all the time to consistently be playing football in January. His playoff wins from 3 and 4 years ago really mean little now. Sanchez is a shitty QB who was lucky enough to be on a couple of teams who were strong enough in other areas to get the Jets into the single elimination tournament, where virtually anything can happen. What if Jim Caldwell doesnt call timeout? What if Nate Kaeding makes his FG's? Where's Sanchez ranked then?
Griffin drove the team from the Washington 14 to the Ravens 16 (then brought back to the 26 on a hold) before Cousins completed the drive. Cousins didn't even need to throw a pass in the OT after the long punt return. Giving that all to Cousins is absurd. That really doesn't change the fact that if a rookie Sanchez was on that Redskins team last season, they don't sniff the playoffs.
Exactly. Too much happens in a game that can sway it one way or another that's out of the QB's control. If this was golf and Sanchez put up bad numbers and won then fine. But in a team sport I can't attach team success to Sanchez.
its gotta be personal...2009 and 2010 Sanchez was QB...does that make him a good QB? Trent Dilfer won a SB, does that make him an elite QB?
schaub has always been considered a good fantasy QB. and chances are half those teams won't make the playoffs. No question we had good teams but if you aren't getting quality play from your QB you aren't winning 4 road playoff games in 2 years. But he was in when they won, right? If Caldwell doesn't call TO we call TO. Remember we let the lock run down to 2-3 secs after the Braylon catch. if kaeding makes his 2 makeable FGs the game changes, do we allow the late TD in prevent mode? what happens if the D could stop Indy in 2009? what happens if the D doesn't allow a late FG in Indy in 2010? what happens if the D could stop Pitt? we could play the what if game all day. The bottom line is he made plays to help us win. who ever said anything about elite? and Dilfer is a great example, vastly underrated QB. Bal never got close to a SB after him until they got Flacco. You need quality QB play to win consistently in January.
We didn't get good QB play in 2009 our defense and run game was the bread and butter of the team. All Sanchez had to do was not screw up too much, and manage the game. Except that his play directly almost cost the Jets a playoff spot in 2009. In 2010 Sanchez was actually decent and looked like he was on his way to becoming a good QB.
Yes...and Griffin was in the game for 20 of the 28 regulation points and 60 of the final regulation possession's 86 yards. I'd say he played a fairly significant part in the win. But all that aside, do you think the 2012 Redskins are a playoff team with 2009 Mark Sanchez at quarterback?
Dilfer is not a great example; Dilfer is an outlier, not the norm -- that team was stacked on Defense and had great Special Teams. If you're hoping for that kind of team, then yeah, a Superbowl is possible. But if you're hoping/needing that type of team to win a Superbowl, then it's also, intrinsically, an indictment on the Qb.
Imagine if Favre had stuck around another year smh. I think we probably win the division, especially with the Pats having a down year (by their standards). A number 1 defense, 1 rushing attack with a QB that can make plays.
again, no it didn't. you are making things up. he cost us a couple of games, not as many as the D/STs cost us. they were stacked on D for years, how many SBs did they get to after Trent?
yes, imagine. He had similar talent in 2008 against a softer sched and no Brady to deal w/ yet he couldn't even get us to the playoffs.
Phillip Rivers says hi. I still think Sanchez best year was 2011. The D collapsed against Oak. Cro's fumble on the return was the nail in the coffin. Mark sucked it up against Mia but we would have been 9-7 if it weren't for the one play (Cro fumble) from that entire season.
news to me. Schaub's had one good fantasy year. barring injury, I'd take the over there no question. Sanchez playing well in a few postseason games doesnt make up for him being awful in the regular season. Regular season performance, over 16 games is a much better indicator of how good of a QB you are than cherry picking a few playoff games. I have no idea why you're weighing those games more when the sample size clearly show's he isnt a good QB. You're proving my point. NFL playoff games come down to single plays- that if you were to replay them, a different outcome could come out each time. Luck plays a huge role in the playoffs, so taking credit away from Rodgers or Manning for things out of their control is absurd. Even Brady's fallen victim to bad luck. Luck played a big factor in at least half of Sanchez's playoff wins. The problem is- he's shown to be a bad player...where we the Jets arent even given the opportunity to get lucky..
Except He did finish with the same record in 2008 then the 2009 team. 9-7. One year that gets in and another it doesn't -that's all. Not to mention he had a different coach, less talent at WR, a less talented defense.. but yeah, that means nothing. Just context - right? Favre at QB in 2009 and that team probably gets a home playoff game and a bye. In Rex's book he mentioned that if they couldn't trade up to get Sanchez the plan was to draft Percy Harvin and be on the next flight to Hattiesburg to coax Favre out of retirement... If only Cleveland would've done us a favor and declined that trade. Holy shit what a different situation we'd be in now and in 2009.
