Solid statistical and personal accomplishments from the QB position generally leads to consistent team accomplishments. The best way to contend for the playoffs every season is to have good QB play. Offense is far more consistent in the NFL than defense is on a year in/out basis.

With the parity in the NFL now, the playoffs are generally a crapshoot and games come down to single plays, so its far more useful judging the good/great QB's by regular season play.

What Brady and Peyton have done is truly incredible.

The D and ST did not blow as many games as Mark that is a flat out lie.

No team has ever missed the playoffs with a top defense and run game.

SD failing to miss the playoffs has nothing to do with Sanchez shitting the bed in 09. Once again more propping of your boy.

    losses in 2009:

    who deserves primary blame:

    at NO: Mark Sanchez/O
    at Mia: Defense
    vs. Buf: Mark Sanchez/O
    vs. Mia: STs
    vs. Jax: Defense
    at NE: Mark(O)/D
    vs. Atl: Mark(O)/D

    D/STs: 4
    Mark: 3

did we miss the playoffs w/ the top ranked D and run game? How many teams have had the top ranked D and run game? AGAIN, you are using rankings, we didn't have the best D or run game, they were very good but rankings tell part of the story.

  4. So every single one of the Jets losses in 09 fall squarely on Sanchez?

You keep referring to Sanchez getting a pass from all his supporters..but you. you want perfection. Any little mistake the team makes not only exemplifies failure..but also falls squarely on Sanchez.

No I'm not saying its all his fault but his performance was so brutal that you can't say that it doesn't contribute to a large portion of our losses that season.

he had a few brutal games, overall he actually had a good year but that doesn't show up in the #s so most think he stunk.

I don't even remember the details of our losses that season but I'm not gonna take your word for it. You're too biased.

I want them to walk off the field head held high regardless of outcome. I want them to throw the ball away or take a sack, not turn the ball over. I want them to take the blame for the offense failures, not say we, say I. I don't want them to put girly things in there hair. I don't want them in GQ. I don't want them from Southern California.

  9. He certainly did contribute to many losses. But he also contributed to a lot of wins.

Let's also consider he was a rookie w/ only 16 college starts to fall back on experience wise. You must allow for learning curve..and in Mark's case..likely well into his 2nd season.

Now granted he got worse in year's 3 & 4 in term's of turnovers & the teams overall success. But lets also bare in mind the surrounding cast around him change significantly.

Change is one of the challenges to being a successful QB..and obviously Sanchez hasn't handled it well. But we really don't know how he will respond when the change is for the better instead for the worse.

If I thought he was killing my team I wouldn't defend him so much. I am the objective one, you guys are the biased ones. Should I break down those games for you?

I would like to ask Mark a simple question. A simple yes or no answer would suffice.

"Do you believe your performance on the field justifies your contract numbers?"

I wonder how he would answer

See, I hate this bull shit argument about "fantasy numbers" and the connotation you force it to have- like stats mean nothing. 90% of the time a player with good statistics is in direct correlation with how well he plays and how much of an influence he has on his teams ability to win.

You look at the teams around RG3 and Sanchez respectively as a rookie and its not hard to see why Sanchez made it further. RG3 was asked to do much more for his team to win. There could have been an argument made for him to be the MVP of the entire NFL. RG3 played the majority of the season without his top 2 weapons and he still set records. The defense wasnt even half as good as the Jets in 2009.

See, this is where this thread lies. It seems like you consider Sanchez's rookie year better or at the very least on par with RG3's simply because the Jets as a team made it further than the Redskins. IMO, that is ridiculous.

Griffin had a better individual year in the reg season, mark had a better postseason and helped his team win multiple postseason games. If Griffin stays healthy he'll be a dynamic player for many years but he still has to win.

Saying "he was good for a rookie" is not being objective. I can respect your opinion a lot more if you acknowledge (without throwing the defense under the bus) that Sanchez up to this point has not lived up to his draft position. But feel like he can still be good. Telling us that he was top 10 and dismissing great players etc in defense of Sanchez is an insult to everyone's intelligence.

I and I'm sure many of the Sanchez detractors acknowledge his circumstance. That's why we gave him a pass for subpar performances it was just chalked up as rookie mistakes. But looking at his rookie season for what it was and it was bad.

3rd most playoff wins in NFL since entering the league
    2nd most in AFC
most playoff wins in Jets history
3rd most road playoff wins all time
only Jets QB to help us reach back to back title games
only Jets QB to win postseason games in back to back years

    I will take it.

and he was good for a rookie. AGAIN, 3 games skewed his #s but overall he had a good year including an excellent postseason.

Personal accomplishments, but you can't completely disregard one or the other. By personal accomplishments, I mean how the QB plays the QB position. Then you factor in the OL, RB, WR,TE around him. Then you factor in the typical OC or gameplan. Then factor in ST and defense and coaches. Then you judge those stats vs the other QBs in the league. By going through that process you get an accurate representation of a QB's ability vs the QBs in the same time frame.

If you are judging a QB across decades/generations it gets much more difficult.

EDIT: So for example. The Jets went 8-7 in the regular season under Sanchez in 2009 and 8-8 under Sanchez in 2011. The 2011 Sanchez played better than the 2009 Sanchez but the 2009 Jets team had more success. So while the Jets team playing well in the playoffs, Mark gets credit for that in 2009, but I don't think that's enough to then say his 2009 season was better than his 2011 season.

Yes, I think so. when compared to griffin, Luck and Wilson he doesn't look as good but those 3 had ridiculous rookie years.

Tom Brady will be remembered for winning the Super Bowl three times, not for having gaudy stats with Randy Moss. In fact, the only thing people will remember about his year with Moss is that they went 18-1. One Giant Loss.

The Super Bowl is all that matters. The rest is fluff.
