Sanchez looks like Sanchez...nothing like tossing a pick 6 on the first drive to bring back memories of 2012/11

How does Geno's ankle look and how long will it affect him. Losing time as a rookie to injury is bad...as a QB it's worse. If the injury is bad and he loses more than a week or so then he doesn't start the season.

McElroy - depending upon Geno's injury I think you go head to head with Nacho and GMac. I want to see GMac against some number one's. If the NY Jets want to lose fan base right out of the gate...start Sanchez without giving McElroy a shot to unseat him in camp...of course, this depends upon Geno's prognosis. Actually, as I've stated in other threads, this damn QB competition SHOULD be between the 3 anyway. It's not a real "open" competition as it sits. You can bitch all you want about Gmac's arm strength...but he looked good tonight AND you don't need a cannon to run the WCO.

Offensive line depth. Ummmm...we don't have any. The Lions were handling our offensive line on all levels but the 1's. Our depth sucks if this game is any true indicator.

Penalties...DUMB penalties...and a LOT of them. Now, the false start penalties should get cleared up when we settle on a QB but the rest...no excuse.

I know it's only the 1st game in pre-season but with the way the collective bargaining agreement is set and practice is only once a day...what we see in this games are a pretty decent indicator...and if what I saw is any indication we're going to be hurting a lot worse than I thought we might. And I'm only speaking from a fundamental stand point. I understand schemes etc...are only vanilla. Fundamentally we are hurting. Just an opinion.

I actually like GMac a lot. Accurate, decisive and throws pretty good ball too.

AND no dumb turnovers. I wouldn't mind it if the starting job goes between Geno and GMac. Nacho is about the last kind of QB you'd want on your team - walking turnover machine.

    we dont run well

    we dont throw well

    we dont block well.

GMAC looked good but WTF cares what a career backup does against 2nd and 3rd stringers in preseason. he isnt a starting NFL calibur qb. yeah, probably a better option then sanchez but he'll never get the nod cause he has no upside.

interior dline looks solid. mo wilk looks really good. gates looks good. kerley looks good. special teams didnt crap the bed. our run d needs work. kyle wilson is hot trash

our biggest problem is we arent good in any 1 phase of the game. we basically have to play turnover free football and hope to win close games. and there is 0 chance we play turnover free football

    Agreed about the turnovers!!

I forgot to comment about the referees as well...they really sucked tonight. It was definitely a Lions home crowd of refs. That spear to Gmac's face on the fumble was a personal foul!! Literally crown to face. Speaking of that, does the NFL fine during preseason? Because that is going to get a fine.

we dont run, and when we do we dont do it well.

the o line cannot suffer any injuries, the backups are not very good.

Gmac vs Geno is what I want to see. It doesn't matter if Sanchez finished with 300 yards he's still the same god awful quarterback that scores points for the other team.

    Receivers look surprisingly good.
#1 Defense looks good. Pass rush was better. Depth looked sorry.
    Online depth looked bad.
RB depth needs help with griffin injured.

I dont see GMac getting a real shot.

I dont think Geno should miss much time, I would expect him to play next preseason game. The kid has to wear some ankle braces or at the very least tape. Its a very good sign that he can walk on it relatively well. He needs to make sure he prevents anything more serious from happening. I had a horrible sprain and its just starting to feel better 3 months after I injured it.

I love Mo Wilk. The guy is seriously going to be dominant. I think he could get double digit sacks from an interior rusher.

Milliner looked solid and had a great PBU. Hill and Gates looked solid as well, but a very small sample.

Our run game needs to improve drastically. The Lions defense isnt very good vs the run and they looked like the 49ers. The OL penalties need to stop, but Im sure that will come with time.

Most concerning thing is our lack of depth at OL, RB and WR. Also, hopefully Geno can practice this week.

    How do you know?

Do you honestly think folks up at Foxboro knew what they were getting in Brady without him forced into the line up?

Of course, I am not saying GMac is the new Tom Brady - of course not. Dismissing him when there isn't even enough body of evidence is at best ludicrous. If at all, he does not turn the ball over a la El Taco Loco.

Looks like Griffin is a goner, shame. Fucking dirtbag lions with a cheap horse collar

Rogers can get open. But the drops are glaring

Incomplete on Geno Smith. Doesn't look like the injury is serious

Our offensive line doesn't look very good

Thought at least 1/4th of the penalties against us were cheap BS

I would cut Aboushay tomorrow and try to sign Brandon Moore out of retirement or something

Biggest takeaway was the offensive spacing. Night & day from that Sparano crap last year. Guys were open, looked like a pro-offense.

Hopefully, our days of a QB stat line like: "11-19 for 109yds, 1TD" are over.

Can't win in the NFL with that shit.

if they didnt give gmac a real shot last year he will never get one.

yes, of course he is better then sanchez. but he is and rightfull so not viewed as a longterm guy you are going to have any success with. and lets stop with the tom brady comparisons.

Vlad needs to get cut. He's no fit for this offense at all. He is a good run blocker but we aren't going to be running a lot. And he still blows at pass blocking.

Indeed. Gates looked great. Ran some crisp routes, very quick. Hung on to the ball. Looks like we found a late blooming diamond in the rough

eh. We'll have run some...Goodson and Ivory will eventually be back. We'll need Ducasse's run blocking late in games.

We'll need Ducasse's run blocking late in games like we'll need Rodgers route running early in pass plays.

Time for the over reactions after 1 pre season game! Let's get to it! My 3 take aways...

    1) Gotta remember the Lions have 3 1st round picks on the D Line. It's the strength of their defense so I'm not surprised they stopped the run. Plus we were using our back-up running back.

    2) That said, typical sloppy first game with all the penalties. I'm liking Marty though, it's so nice to have a competent Offensive Coordinator.

    3) The QB's: Sanchez obviously had a really dumb early play but I'm glad he came back strong. Say what you will about him but the fact they he came back out firing and led them down the field is what you want to see out of your QB after a dumb turnover.

Geno looked poised and you could see him go through his reads which I liked. When nothing was open he checked down. I'll take 6/7 with no turnovers. If he's healthy I think he starts opening day.

McElroy is very intriguing. Smart guy, very decisive, bad arm strength...he's Chad Pennington light. I'd like to see him with the 1's.

Positives: WRs and TEs got separation, and YAC. First team D didn't give up a TD.

Negatives: Sanchez is still erratic, Geno was tentative. OL took a fuckload of penalties.

    QBs:

Sanchez was just terrible. You don't throw INTS like that on a screen pass...redeemed himself with a TD.

Geno looked alright, wish he was allowed to pass more. Hope his injury ends any of that read option bullshit.

McElroy looked better than both. One turnover off of blown protection...better arm and moved ball down field.

Offense is NIGHT AND DAY better than last year. Get rid of false starts, and we're good

Defense looked superb. Liked Milliner and Wilkerson.

As for the rest: Spadola and Rogers looked good (Rogers with bad drop). Ricky Sapp did nothing as usual...2nd string O-line is terrible...we need to sign some RBs

-#6 with a pick 6 yet again, but I'd be lying if I said he didn't look stable on his last drive.

    - Smith looked a little on edge (expected) but had some good throws. he's got a better throw than Sanchez alright, but needs time to come in to his own. i can't wait to see him next week.

    - the QB competition shifts the incumbents way after friday, although that is subject to the severity of Smiths injury.

-WR's looked better than expected, no real standouts, but a good effort overall.

    - the running game is in AWFUL shape. I really hope goodson comes out of hiding and Ivory comes in healthy soon.

-WIIIILLLLLKKKK. Big Mo gonna have a great year.

-our backups suck all over, except in regards to the passing game surprisingly.
