If you have honestly watched this team over the last 4 years and can't admit that Sanchez has been a major weakness, then you are either a poorly programmed bot or just a very silly individual.

They had the best Special teams, Defense, Offensive line and Running game in football for two years. They did not win the Superbowl because they had to keep him on a short leash! If we had a mediocre QB we would have won a SB. What you don't seem to realize is a superbowl Qb has to win a playoff game with his talent on the road to the SB 95% of the time. Not play not to lose.

This is just a ridiculous statement. Explain this to me.

    http://www.pro-football-reference.com/play-index/comeback.cgi?player=SancMa00

Lets take a look at 2010, his only year with a consistent supporting caste / coaching from the year before. He had 6 game winning drives or 4th qtr comebacks. Compare this to other "Elite" QBs stats in that year.

    QB: 4QCB 2010 ( total since Sanchez draft )
    Matt Ryan: 6 ( 16 )
    Mark Sanchez: 6 ( 12 )
    Drew Brees: 5 ( 17 )
    Joe Flacoo: 4 ( 11 )
    Tom Brady: 3 ( 9 )
    Peyton Manning: 2 ( 12 )
    Aaron Rodgers: 1 ( 7 )
    Eli Manning: 1 ( 14 )

So since Sanchez entered the league, He's tied for 4th in most 4th Qtr Comebacks or game winning drives. In fact in 2010 he was one of the best 4th QTR QBs in the league, with a slightly above average Strength of Victory.

"He had a stretch in 2010-11 where he was 7-3 [in 4th quarter opportunities], only bookended by losses to the future Super Bowl champion (2010 Packers, 2011 Giants)."
    http://www.coldhardfootballfacts.co...-clutch-adjusted-for-strength-schedule/18941/

How can one say that Sanchez, when asked to win games, is incapable. When he's clearly shown throughout his career that he can win games when given the opportunity.

The problem with that hypothesis is that he threw in MANY situations that were not even close to ideal in his first 2 years (especially year 2), plus you can't always tell whether the defense is expecting a throw. It's not like the team dominated in 2009. There were plenty of times we had to force Sanchez to pass in tough scenarios. We did run the ball quite a bit, but Sanchez had plenty of 3rd and longs that he passed on. Many QBs are treated like that in their first season. Saying it inflates his stats is still silly. Less attempts means less touchdowns, less completions, less yardage and plenty of of other stats that affect QB rating. If anything they are deflated.

In 2010, it was both. Remember, early in the year Revis got hurt and missed 1/3 of the season at least. Sanchez had numerous come from behind wins, how can you say the defense did that? Yes, they kept us in games, but Sanchez still came through in the clutch and did the job in an non ideal situation. When there's 50 seconds left and you have to go 60+ yards, the defense knows without a doubt that you are passing. Sorry but your hypothesis completely collapses based on that.

Anyways I'm not even defending Sanchez, I'm just saying his stats are NOT inflated. If he was surrounded by all pro WRs and TEs you could say that, but he clearly wasn't.

FIXED. In 2010 the defense was ranked 3rd and the line was not as good as 2009, and rushing game was ranked 4th.

That chart is garbage. By the way they used Steve Young, chad Pennington should be atop the list, with his 127.

Even the OP agreed with me after he actually looked at it.

But hey, first PS game tonite!

    CANT WAIT!!!!!!!!!

Gabbert.Freeman.Henne.Fitzpatrick.Quinn.romo.Rivers. Jackson...Short list, without thinking it through

Hey, if completion percentage is your thing, but you know winning playoff games is not, theres an argument to be made there.

However for any QB on that list that you can argue is better, Rivers,Homo...theyve done less, with more.

Naming 2 QBs who are better than Sanchez (yes, despite your insane ideas, Romo and Rivers are both better QBs than Sanchez) and 4 backup QBs isnt a very strong argument if you ask me.

I thought you'd like that. I didn't post that here to say Sanchez sucks. I just thought that it was interesting.

Hold it up like a prism, twirl it in the light, and one can see all kinds of things... depending on one's viewpoint.

Hobbes... you make some great points in some of your posts, but I have to dig through paragraphs of desperation to get them, man.

Agreed Byz and he dodges points he cant retort to such as the Sean Lee, Ninkovich, Ladarius Webb and @Denver pick sixes. Blaming those stupid fuckin decisions on Brian Schottenheimer is a cop-out. I suppose the meltdown @Tennesse is Schotts fault too.....

The examples I provided pinpoint Sanchezs biggest faults perfectly but he just distorts blame to others. Who decided to throw those passes?

In my opinion, the Tennessee game was a result of four years of the Rex and Tannenbaum regime.

On the other hand, those other examples you listed are solid examples of Sanchez making terrible decisions. It's also disconcerting that he hadn't progressed more, but unlike other people I believe it isn't too late for him.

    I guess we'll see.

Yes, that's why I went on to explain how my view of Sanchez matched the numbers, hence the numbers making sense. Nobody should be saying Sanchez is the worst QB that started at least 4 seasons of 10 games of all time, but it does confirm what we all see with our eyes, he struggles outplaying his peers. My reasoning is because it's a lack of consistency. He struggles to put together stretches of games, let alone a season that leaves you impressed. That's why the playoffs are so frustrating. We got some great games and some ok games from Sanchez but never a bad game. Yet we get so many bad games during the regular season.

Except you are wrong because the chart is a passer rating index by pro football reference, not passer rating or QBR. It is a system where 100 is average and it judges a QBs play vs the play of his peers each season. The chart then took each player's yearly number and came up with an average.

It's the decision making that can get better, regardless of talent around him. That's why last year was frustrating. THe offense was bad but Sanchez made it worse. He could have made smarter decisions and protected the ball he could have still progressed as a QB
