" Climbing the Hill top: It's still early, but WR Stephen Hill is the most improved player on the team. The former second-round pick has impressed with his improved mechanics and route running, so much so that receivers coach Sanjay Lal highlighted a particular play in Wednesday's receivers meeting. Hill could be the No. 1 receiver, because it doesn't appear that Santonio Holmes will be ready for Week 1."

Oh how we need this to be an accurate assessment.

I liked the pick at the time and thought he suffered last year because of the lockout and lack of training camp. He wasn't in shape coming into the season and that impacted his ability to stay healthy but I was hoping with a real off season with proper support by the training staff and whatnot.

    Seems legit man

Seriously though, I think having Sparano as an OC and Sanchez at QB hurt him a lot, along with the fact he was thrust into a starting role too early and immense pressure was placed among him by fans that have no idea that Stephen Hill is a project player.

    Shhhhhh

It can. Somehow. That's why Sanchez didn't have proper weapons. Remember?

Guys have put up decent numbers with Sanchez so I don't blame hi. He tossed him a perfect pass against the pats in space that was dropped.

He is a big guy that had to learn how to play WR in the NFL. Sporano was a huge issue, injuries to all receivers didn't help. Edwards will be a big influence - similar size, had hand issues, has really learned how to use his body to his advantage and I think we will o a great job mentoring him.

Geno Smith's arm, Stephen Hill's legs...quick, someone go find Jerry Rice's hands.

I like Hill, he just looked so raw. With a QB that can throw with authority down the field & an OC that knows what the fuck he's doing, it all bodes well. Mostly, I just hope he stays healthy. If we get 16 games out of him this year, I'd be pretty happy w that.

If Hill can be a legit number 1 receiver, that's fantastic news for the franchise. I've always thought Holmes was a very good #2 (no pun intended), but not up to par with great receivers. Really hope Hill takes that step.

He had the right idea. Hill pulled something last year in training camp and missed a good amount of it. It seems to be helping this year. He could emerge as a Victor Cruz type of player if he keeps it up. He will be key!

I'm really hoping that having a player similar to Hill with Edwards helps Hill a lot. They both have had dropsies... It's really just a matter of concentration and seeing the ball into your hands before you try to make a move. Hopefully he makes the next step and becomes a big contributor to this team.

    Where is the pun?

i also highly believe hill can be a one, but i still think we need to sign a good wr, or draft one before round 5. Holmes is as good as gone, truthfully i don't care if he even plays this year, i mean he doesn't want to it seems..

I'm expecting Holmes to be gone... I would love to pick up another young/talented WR in either FA or the draft. A WR core involving a developed Hill, Kerley, and a young/talented WR would give a nice arsenal of weapons to Geno.

Indirectly calling him a POS, but yea I agree with you. If Hill can be the number 1 receiver, then it doesn't need to be a first round concern. It's a lot easier to find a second receiver in the later rounds, preferably 2-4. It'll take a lot of pressure off of Kerley who could thrive without being the primary target.

Stephen Hill is gonna be good and it helps that he has a really strong work ethic. Plus having Braylon around should help him as well.

I mean we aren't winning the sb this year, I'd rather see what our lesser known wr have, so we have a better idea for the future for what we need to do at the position.

    From Jane McManus
Can't wait for the preseason to see what we have at the receiver position.
