I know it's bleacherreport but this was a great article about Hill.

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...phen-hill-live-up-to-rookie-expectations-2012

Basically he was very near average production for players taken 33-53 in the draft. Throw in the fact that people knew he was raw and the fact that Sanchez was throwing him the ball. Also take a look at his work ethic, and there's a lot of reason for optimism. It's just that the drops stood out as being pretty ugly.

I, for one, am glad we didn't draft Swope. https://twitter.com/greggrosenthal/status/360536376942399490

    Tough break :(

Just a couple of tweets i noticed:

    Brian Bassett
@waynechrebet Liked Rogers most overall. Spadola has promise, Davis has physical tools bt needs time. Journeyman VHazleton impressed me too.

    Brian Bassett
RT @e_man: @Brian_Bassett what's Jordan White doing? >> Gotta say, not a lot ... didn't stick out much for me ... roster spot up in air.

Hill works really hard at his craft when he is not hurt. That's the saving grace for him at this point. If he turns into a good WR it will be because he put the work in to get his flaws corrected.

I'm hoping the early chemistry with Geno Smith is real. Somebody mentioned that Hill might be one of those receivers where the high hard throws were a plus because they let him just react to the play instead of waiting around with the defender. If that's true then the Jets have two of those guys now because that's Braylon Edwards MO also. Now you just have to have a QB who makes high hard throws consistently.

I guess our new gm didn't get the memo or watch a jet game last season.Holmes had to learn how to walk again so we knew along time ago there was a chance he wouldn't see the field. We trade Revis and with any high draft picks we had we still didn't draft any wr's .I don't get this team or how they do things we needed some kind of new blood at Wr but instead we get Braylon Edwards ,no qb in modern football can play with these bums ,it's just real dissapointing oh well I guess it's time to dust off my Clyde Gates jersey

Spadola doing walkthroughs with the 1s today, probably due to VH's injury.

Lots of people comparing him to Chrebet, but I think that's just a skin color thing. Chrebet was 5'11" #188, Spadola is 6"3", #200. Quite a big difference there.

With White out, Holmes out and Bray/Haze nicked up, I wouldn't be surprised to see Spadola make a push for a roster spot. Assuming no Holmes for the foreseeable future:

    1) Hill
    2) Braylon
    3) Kerley
    4) Gates
    5) Haze
    6) Spadola
    7) Rogers

With everyone shifting up obviously if/when Braylon goes down, which i expect to happen sooner rather than later unfortunately.

So what happened to that Ben Obomanu guy that the Jets signed? I haven't heard anything about him since camp started.

I saw that the Jets added him to their IR does this mean we'll retain his rights this season?

  11. He didn't stand out at the scrimmage.Yet Jets list him ahead of Hazleton,Spadola,& Collins, among others. Perhaps he's a good special teamer?

Yeah I heard he's always been a solid special teams guy. Btw Hazleton just tore his acl.

Obamanu has always been a good special teamer, and runs decent routes. he'll make the team.

fack, it sucks Hazelton is done with the acl. was looking promising.
i hope Gates keeps the progress up, and becomes a viable option. we need a surprise at WR big time.

I think our surprise is going to come in the form of Rogers. I have him making the squad and catching 40 balls this year with 3 TD's. Gates is expected...he should be putting together his 3rd year in the league.

I like Rogers too. i think he'll be a surprise in making the team and showing promise that he can grow into a bigger role in the future.

But we also need a surprise in the form of a 2013 play maker.
Hill obviously is the key. but I'm also holding out hope that a guy like Gates or someone else (no longer Haze) can become a real threat which teams need to prepare for.

I really like our receiver this year. The guys that I want to see stick around in some capacity

    You have the obvious ones

    Stephen Hill
    Santonio Holmes
    Jeremy Kerley
    Cylde Gates
    Braylon Edwards

    Then the fringe guys

    Ben Obomanu
    Zach Rogers
    Ryan Spadola

I think all these guys are worthy of a roster spot.

To start the season I would go with 6 receivers

    Hill
    Kerley
    Gates
    Edwards
    Spadola
    Obomanu

    with Rogers inactive.

I think Edwards should be moved to the "fringe guys" list. I won't be shocked if he's cut in favor of a younger guy who plays special teams.

  20. I think the writing is on the wall. Unless someone gets hurt(knock on wood) Edwards likely doesn't stand a chance. Too many young(er) guys playing at the same level he is w/ further upside & special team ability. Gates stepping up was Edward's downfall.
