don't get angry because statistics are too complicated for you and lash out at others because they understand. we aren't judging you, we just want to help you be better. we are going very slowly so you can keep up, but you have to be willing to listen, not get angry. don't fight it, let the truth slide right in and the thrusts of information will begin to make sense with every enlightening stroke from the shaft of knowledge.

Angry? if it ever does become popular it won't bother me. I like to deal in reality unlike you guys. Keep pretending soccer will be big here, I guess that makes you feel better. There have been so many times soccer was supposed to become huge, for 5 mins here or there it may have come close but has never been able to sustain popularity but now that a scientific survey of 12-24 yr olds tells us they like soccer more than all sports except football it must be true! never mind the WNBA like ratings, if a survey tells us then we must believe

I'm not going to try and convince anyone here, but I visited the US '85, '87 and 95 and I can tell you every time I visited soccer/football was more popular. For every new generation that grows up with it, it gets more popular, where it peeks, no one knows, but I do know its still growing.
It would take some effort for it to overtake the MLB and NFL, but in years to come, who knows.

edit: Its about time I visited the US again, miss yer

I appears to be more popular now but going from where they were w/ basically no one caring to now some people caring makes it appear we have had a huge jump. I think people will always care about big events in the US whether it's the WC, Olympics, etc... w/o our best athletes playing soccer here I don't think it will ever become as popular as some wish it would. if we had our best athletes playing OR even if the best Int'l players were playing here I think it could be popular but that's not happening. we'll get a sideshow like beckham late in his career, soccer needs players like that in their primes.

I like to have fun goofing on soccer but I really don't care if it becomes popular for the sake of others I hope it does but I just don't see it.

And the the increase of attendance numbers both for MLS and international matches, the explosion of soccer specific stadiums, the huge TV deals for WC and the English league rights. These facts never get in the way.

BTW a lot of the English games that there was a huge biding war for the broadcast rights, will be on at 7am EST here. I'm sure it's just people with a casual interest that will be waking at the crack of dawn to watch.

exhibition games have always done well attendance wise(even though YS have to give away tickets), is MLS attendance accurate? those Metrostar #s sure aren't. You believe everything being fed to you b/c you want to believe it.

Just a couple questions. Not trying to judge or anything. Just trying to understand your mindset.

Why do you think soccer is the most popular sports in the world. Europe, South America, Africa, Asia etc.?

What makes you think soccer won't become one of the popular sports in near future?

Because you are not 12-24 so you don't think like a 12-24 year old. The biggest reason soccer is growing in this country is it is great for people with lives and short attention spans. IE; the Twitter , Social Media kids. I know if I turn on the Man U vs Chelsea game at 8 AM it is going to be over at 10AM. The reason MLB declines in the ratings is because I can turn on a Red Sox Yankees game and 4 hours later still be in the 7th inning. That's not to say that baseball isn't a great game but in this day and age people want results and they get them fast (as fast as you can with a sporting event anyway)

It clearly does bother you because you continue to dismiss links and stats as if they are made up just to convince soccer fans the sport is growing. Let me ask you this very simple question. 10 years ago (not that long ago) how many major networks carried soccer? ESPN carried the World Cup/Champions League/Euro Championships and US Soccer. Fast forward to 2013 and ESPN now carries Mexico games, Gold Cup, English Football has a dedicated show, shows it their bottom and shows highlights on Sportscenter. Fox now shows games and NBC has signed on to start carrying games. If the sport was not growing I assume all these network executives must be idiots because you say you turn a Redbulls game and you say the stadium is empty or you say the Yankees gave away 10s and thousands of tickets despite providing no links to support this. These network execs are not idiots, they know what people want, you know why you don't see fishing shows on ESPN anymore? Because people don't want to watch them. You know why ESPN is carrying more soccer? Because people want to watch it.

As far as the comment about "soccer supposed to become huge here". I never heard anybody say it was going to overtake the NFL or NBA in popularity just that it could surpass the NHL (which it has) and Nascar (which it is doing). Most realistic soccer fans are happy with the fact that it is gaining popularity and is more available today than it was 10 years ago.

We all realize this Country was populated w/ immigrants from around the world and soccer loving Countries, right? how come it has never been popular?

I think the main reasons are some things I have already discussed such as lack of high level soccer on our soil. Our best athletes play football and basketball, the best soccer players play in Europe, South America, etc...

Huh? people w/ short attention spans like soccer? the game w/ no action for 90 of the 95 mins(can't forget fake injury time!)

Sure people can reasonably expect to know when a soccer game ends BUT if it ever becomes popular and they can sell ad space those games will lengthen, right now the big $ are not there for ads but if that opportunity arises it will lengthen games and while now it's 2 hours and over it's 2 hours of boredom, seeing 3-4 shots on goal for an entire game. How would that excite a 12-24 yr old?

I discuss reality, if the reality changes and soccer becomes popular that will be ok. It does annoy me how the few soccer loving folks will try to twist things to pretend like soccer is popular and is on the verge of becoming big in this Country.

The XFL was on network TV, tractor pulling is on network TV, the X games, the sporting landscaped has changed and we see a million things we didn't used to see. That doesn't make those sports popular.

You did hear it b/c according to some scientific survey it's now #2 in 12-24 yr olds:rofl2:

junc is soo bad at trolling. At least get some bogus links to support your claims.

Soccer is very popular in the USA. It is a fact.

Bogus links like the ones you posted/ I don't need bogus links, I live in reality.

other than poor attendance, low TV rating s and no one talking about it soccer is very popular in the US.

Attendance is what is reported. The same as any other in this country, yet you won't accept it.

The TV ratings for soccer have been laid out in great detail, which equal or surpass the other sports in this country.

Soccer will eventually pass NHL and MLB in popularity. Maybe 10 years maybe 20 but it will happen. That is a fact. Sorry. Get used to it. :)

anyone w/ eyes can see the attendance is greatly inflated. You posted a video crowing about attendance w/ the upper portion completely empty and empty patches throughout all the closer seats and that was opening day.

the ratings aren't apples to apples, it's one game here or there against a regionalized broadcast of other sports.

    Fool yourself all you want.

Also. NBA is pretty pretty popular in soccer loving countries. Turkey for example. Messi is regarded as a soccer God. But LeBron James is as well known as Messi. Michael Jordan has fan clubs in Turkey and he is regarded as a legend.

Kobe Bryant attended a soccer practice with my team Galatasaray last summer due to a deal he made with Nike and entire stadium chanted for Kobe. Galatasaray players treated Kobe as a celebrity and got his autograph.

Sorry. This was just a side note. We can keep bashing junc now :)
