The Head Coach has a tattoo of of his wife wearing a Sanchez jersey on his arm, for Christ's sake. Think about the emotional investment in Sanchez Ryan must have to have that tattoo. I hope he was at least drunk at the time.

Seriously though, there hasn't been any real favoritism because there hasn't been any real competition for Sanchez until this year. McElroy? C'mon now. I'm just saying that Jets fans should hope that there isn't any favoritism this year, in the first QB competition that Sanchez was ever in. None of this "but he played in two Championship games" generic crap. You look at the way he PLAYS, and then compare that to the way Geno Smith plays, and go with the guy that plays better. Of course, there is going to be a fair amount of projection with Smith because he's never played in a real NFL game...preseason ain't real games, either...not really.

I would be fairly shocked if Geno doesn't start at one point this year. Most current starters started when they were rookies. If and when they decide that there is no future with Sanchez, may as well give Geno some experience at the very least. I wouldn't worry about "ruining him."

so as expected no one is happy he's doing well so far. Hey geno, don't get too comfortable, they will turn on you in a year or 2 as well.

to be fair, and i know better than to address this but i will anyway.

i never liked sanchez so i did not turn on him 2 years later.

i didnt like it when we drafted geno, i would have been very unhappy if he was brought in at the 9 pick. however i am more than willing to see what he can do. and thus far he has done pretty well all things considered. if i come to the realization through watching his play that he is NOT the qb that we need then yes i most definitely will turn on him. thats how it goes, you are either the man or you need to go away.

you can tell, its not terribly hard to see in a couple years who the guys are that have it and the guys that dont. even for an average football fan.

even if their results havent been fantastic. then again you can have decent team results and still show everyone that you are in fact not the guy.

Gotta feel for Hobbes though, trying to lure ppl in with his Sanchez gospel...

Pretty good chance this thread becomes a ghost town in the near future, consisting only of Hobbes and Junk comparing who has the finest Sanchez shrine and memorabilia.

Obviously it is very difficult for the average fan.

The game is about winning, nothing else. you can have all the meaningless #s you want, w/o wins they don't mean a thing.

Folks like you would rather lose w/o Mark than win w/ him for whatever reason.

I am rooting for mark b/c I know we can win with him again(whether this year or 2 years from now) but if Geno gives us a better chance to win I'm all for Geno.

Folks like me want a QB we can win with THANKS to him, not DESPITE of him. Even his head coach has acknowledged this ("I truly believe that one day Mark will be recognized as a strength of this team, not a weakness").

I have seen -one- game where we won thanks to Sanchez.
And I've lost count of how many games I've seen where we lost because of Sanchez.
I've also lost count of how many games we've won thanks to our defence.

What most of us here want, "folks like me", is to not settle or get used to average at the most important position. His surname is irrelevant to me, but I'd be very surprised if Mark Sanchez can make it back to being average. In his FIFTH year. I'd love to see him become what we all hoped he'd be, but if he only gets back to being average - I want someone else, til we find THE quarterback.

The only reason you start Geno if you think it is a throw away season. Unless the jets have no other choice but to start Geno(he plays that well) Sanchez should and will start.

If Geno starts game 1 and does not outperform Sanchez Rex is a true lame duck because the decision would have made by Idzik and MM will be the coach of the Jets next season.

It's hard to win in January, some all time greats w/ more talent around them struggle. You guys think there is some magic formula where fantasy #s equal winning playoff games.

Having good to great regular season QB play is the formula to be consistently playing in January.

True but anyone watching this team the last 2 years understands there were a million reasons we didn't make the playoffs, it wasn't just QB play and no QB would have been able to lead us to the playoffs last year.

Want to know who is going to make a run in the NFL look at the injury report. Nine times out of Ten the healthiest teams make the playoffs. Jets had the injury bug last year but Sanchez gets blamed we have brilliant fans.

Geno does not put up fantasy numbers right away the fans will be screaming for his head again. It takes four years to get good as an NFL QB and 7 to reach your full potential. Don't get enamored with these running Qbs they will be stopped and force to play from the pocket then we will see what they really can do.

Luck threw a ton of picks
Kap had a great running game
    RG3 great running game
    Wilson great running game
    Newton-pedestrian last year

I like all five but they have proven nothing yet.

The mistake came when the Jets moved up in the draft to pick MS. He should have never been picked. With that said, he can be a fair QB with some material around him. Over the past two years the offense has been a dismal failure. The RB, WR, TE and OL has deteriorated. The Jets have made some progress this year with the offense but it still needs some playmakers. MS should be the starting QB. This will give GS some time to learn the system and get comfortable with playing in the NF. At best, the Jets are an 8-8 maybe a 9-7 team with either QBs. I don't think you throw Smith in with the caliber of WRs and TEs.

This is basically it. All of the discomfort that people have with Mark Sanchez at this point is based on the fact that he has not progressed at his trade for a year and a half now. That's an eternity in an NFL career.

It's show-me time for Sanchez right now. He doesn't have any slack left at this point. If he's still a tantalizing prospect after 4 years in the NFL what it really means is that's all he ever was and it didn't work out.
