To recap, I agree with Jaws, and I feel that his opinion should be respected, even if you disagree. As to the QBs you named for some reason, Kolb, Flynn and Henne were actually put after Sanchez on Jaw's 32-man list. Fitzpatrick, Skelton, Gabbert, Jackson, and Quinn were not on the list. Jacksonville was retarded not to draft somebody at the position; I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Gabbert doesn't lose his job to Henne at some point. Other than that, none of these guys are going to start this year except probably for Flynn, who you can't really slam too hard at this point because he only started two games so far...and he looked good in that tiny sample. Romo too. I'm not a Romo fan, but hell yeah I'd swap Nacho for Romo in a heartbeat. To me, that's a no-brainer. In fact, I would swap Sanchez out for just about any starting QB in the league with the possible exceptions of Gabbert, Ponder, Locker, or Weeden. I don't have much confidence in those guys either. Sanchez would make a half-way decent backup if he had a good run game behind him. That's where his career is headed. The guy just has too many limitations to play consistently well. The more he's asked to do, the worse he looks, and the further he is exposed. I don't hate the guy, but that's how I see him as a quarterback.
If Geno is the best QB on the team there is absolutely *no reason for him to be on the bench. The players will lose respect for the head coach if they know he's starting a guy who doesn't give them the best chance to win. You always learn more on the field than on the bench. * if he weren't ready to be on the field that would be a great reason for him to be on the bench but if he's the best QB on the team, to me, that means he is ready.
And this is spot on, I would like to add if Mark was making 3-4 million a year that is one thing. But with his salary he needs to play much better plain and simple. If Kolb was our starting QB I would be fine with that due to the short term low yearly salary he is signed for...
Thats reasonable, though I disagree. Especially on the 100 million dollar choke artist. Now, you brought up Locker..personally, i think sanchez, right now...is better than Locker. Freeman, Kolb, or Manuel. Thats 3 of the first 4 QBs we face, and I think that difference is magnified, when you factor in our defense vs. those QBs, One reason why Sanchez should start.
but if geno beats him out than geno is also better than locker, bills qb ,freeman. so the best qb should start. no?
Yeah, I brought up Locker as a QB that I may not swap Sanchez out for. Then again, Locker has only has started 11 games so far. But don't kid yourself; Sanchez isn't THAT much better than any starter in this league right now. You may make a case about a couple of few, but that's about it. The only reason why Sanchez should start game one is if the Jets feel that he is MARKEDLY better than Geno Smith...no pun intended. That's the only reason he should start. Any half-cocked comparison of Sanchez to the quarterbacks the Jets face is entirely irrelevant. The only relevant comparison is the one between Sanchez and Smith, in other words. This is no time for Rex Ryan to be playing favorites, either. If Sanchez starts, then he's damn lucky to have that opportunity. It's a long season (not long enough from where I'm sitting). How this whole thing unfolds is going to be interesting and extremely entertaining to watch...so there is that at least.
There is one thing everyone agrees with this is Marks last chance. I think Mark has all the tools physically to be a star in this league. The question have come between his ears. Jaws changes his mind a lot about QB's. His analysis is very show me and the offense Mark has been in and some bad performances put Sanchez in the manage the game category. Make no mistake Mark has been put in some tough spots by coaching. The time for speculation is over Mark will have his chance. From everything I am reading Mark is performing well and Geno is showing the potential he has but is a green rookie. For that reason alone I think Marks starts the season until he plays so bad he gets benched or the Jets are out playoff contention.
Geno throws a nice ball but struggles with accuracy. That was his issue in college and seems to be his issue in camp thus far. This comes from bad footwork David Lee and Mm will fix it just give them a chance.
What bothers me about some people is this whole playing favorites crap. There is no evidence of this at all but keeps getting spewed by some posters. Rex made a mistake not activating McElroy against the Titans because of depth issues he was not playing favorites.
I am sorry, but that is just false. Name one physical trait that is elite? Even above average? Nothing. He doesnt have a cannon arm, he is athletic like some of the new QBs entering the league, he isnt even as shifty in the pocket as Drew Brees, his mechanics and footwork has regressed... There is nothing physically that seperates him from 80% of the NFL's starting QBs.
I agree. I said on the other thread, that I really like what ive seen from smith on film. However, since the Jets are committed to Sanchez, Ijust dont want Gwno to be rushed. (by comitted, i mean they need to get something for the 12 mil) If Smith is head shoulders better than Sanchez, he should play. But if its even close, they should let him grow.
It's called a sunk cost. The Jets shouldn't feel any obligation to play sanchez because they owe him $12 million. That would be like continuing to eat the buffet when it's rotten because you already paid for it.
Plus, Idzik has no obligations or ties to Sanchez. At this point, his salary doesnt matter- this years money for Sanchez is a lost cause. Next years salary will depend only on the way Sanchez plays. Live or die for him, and if he doesnt separate himself from Geno, Im going with the kid with the higher ceiling at this point and the player of the future. As much as the team loves Sanchez because they are buddy buddy with him, they will want the best man to start. Sitting Geno if he's the best man wont bode well. I think its huge that Braylon came out and said what he did because he was a big Sanchez supporter if I remember correctly, and if he's pushing for the best man Im sure the majority of the team will support that as well.
Sanchez had his chance... Geno will make everyone else better because they wont be thinking "how will Sanchez F*%# this up"
Man... I believe that I have now seen every possible desperate argument to start Sanchez from you. They are committed to monetary payment. That's it. The Seahawks paid 10 million guaranteed dollars to Matt Flynn and he started exactly zero games for them and is no longer with the team. Next you will tell us that Sanchez should start because he allegedly banged Kate Upton.
Sanchez is done and will be remembered for the butt fumble instead of back to back conference championships. oh well
The only benefit to playing Sanchez would be if you think he could be like Alex Smith and get the team a second round pick and let Geno sit and prepare. But, he will definitely be cut and according to some tweets Geno is doing well. Sent from my SM-T310 using Tapatalk 2
After all a 2 time AFC Championship game QB shouldn't have a problem finding suitors for his services right?
exactly it definitely shouldn't go against him and basing p.t. on salary is exactly the kind of way teams get fucked up. just keeping sanchez on the roster is like keeping a band aid on a wound that needs to breathe because its going to hurt to remove it. if geno shows he is the man they should just rip the band aid off and let the healing begin
