So what exactly was Jaws "wrong" about? Sanchez ceiling at best is that of a game manager that can only succeed when everything else around him is near perfect. When you ask him to lean on the run game and limit his throws. Pretty shitty for a 5th overall pick.
Although after reading through over 600 pages of this thread, there are certainly people who post like they've been hit in the head more.
Honestly, Ive never really paid attention to Jaws and dont put much stock in anything he says. You said something about hits to the head... which I took as relation to concussions and head injuries and its affect to cause someone the inability to judge a football player- which I of course disagree with. I wasnt saying Jaws is some great evaluator just because he's played QB.
Honestly, I wasnt speaking about Jaws really- moreso this head injury part. And really, when have I ever brought up anything personal? You're the one that comes up with petty arguments that must revert to name calling like "laxative". Also funny coming from a person that just said "if dick is your preferred flavor" after trying to say the Im the one who makes personal attacks. Smh.
Dude,I always respond when it gets personal, but I try to not take a personal position with people I disagree with, but a half dozen posts, all snark, no commentary..and if you feel, I included you wrongly, my apologies.

How do you see the recent changes to the rules concerning the 'peel-back' block, leading with crown of the helmet, and the tuck rule as helping the offense?
Mark has no room for error. He has a 2 INT practice he's done. If he has a poor pre season game he's done. If he has a poor regular season game he's done. If Geno plays at the same level as Sanchez, Mark is done. This is by far the most serious competition he has had. Sanchez will definitely have to earn it this year
Smith, will be a good player....but you are a little knee jerk on Sanchez......geno, has to be better than Sanchez to play right now. ...early reporting says he isnt. Can he get there in 6 weeks, maybe. But.... If Sanchez isnt behind center opening day, your 60 million dollar investment goes down the toilet, and if the rookie struggles...in this market....? Absent Smith lighting the staffs hair on fire, i just dont see it.
The tuck rule...was always retarded, and installs basic fair play. Leading with the crown? Really...last time I looked for every rB there were at least 4DBs. (p.s. it really the offset to the defenseless receiver rule...i guess you missed that) The peel back, sure, is a benefit to the D, but...none of those compare, not even close to the scoring effects of the Polian rule. Not even close.
Ok. So...to recap...jaws is right, because you are right. Sanchez was 28. Fitzpatrick? Henne? Gabbert? Skelton? Quinn? Hell, even Sackelroy, was a starter technically. And fwiw, considering the Jets oc/injury situation, Tannehill goes on that list. Guys you wouldnt trade sanchez straight up for Tannehill, freeman, Fitzpatrick,Kolb, flynn, palmer,Skelton, henne,Gabbert, jackson, quinn, romo,....all thise guys started at some point last year. Now...being better than them is still like winning the special olympics. But...it means you aint the worst guy playjng the position, by a long stretch. And Romo just got, what 106 mil? Lets have that discussion, who here would swap nacho for romo, ?
Too bad most people don't share your views on Sanchez and overestimate Sanchez ability like you do. Whether you want to believe it Sanchez is in the same boat with Gabbert, Skelton etc. You keep saying Sanchez is better than Romo and Freeman. If you're Jerry Jones and we offer Sanchez straight up for Romo do you think Jones pulls the trigger? If Sanchez is better than Freeman then why did the Bucs reject Sanchez in the Revis trade? If the Colts were offering Luck in a package you think they're turning that down? Hell even a guy like Dalton wouldn't have been rejected. I can respect your opinions more if you were realistic. If you said Sanchez sucks but I hope he improves and gets an opportunity in this new system. I can respect that but your delusional opinions are ridiculous.
Please. Freeman? You dont know, outside media speculation, that it was reality, and whatteam is picking up 30 million in cap money? Thats absurd. Romo? Are you joking? Just for a moment..,leave the QBs out of it. In what year from 09 on did the Jets have a better OC. And Skill players. Than Dallas? And whichteam actually has playoff wins? P.s. ive pointed out Sanchez flaws repeatedly... Im not unrealistic about his performance. The "worst QB in the nfl" is. The guy has flaws, bit I think they are coaching points....
The 60 million dollar investment is already sunk. Next year it is largely off the books. Last year the argument had real merit because the extension was new money just on the books and the Jets really had no alternative to Sanchez. This year everything is different. 1. Sanchez was terrible last year. His value as an asset moving forward dropped with every bad throw he made in December against weak opponents. 1a. The Jets commitment to Mark Sanchez after the 2013 season basically boils down to a $4.8 million cap hit next year when they let him go. The real damage in the extension was in 2012 and 2013 and will largely be past when the books close on this season. 2. The Jets have a real alternative in Geno Smith, who if he is only 80% ready to go will still be playing at the level Sanchez gave the Jets last year and substantially above the level that Sanchez was showing at the end of the year. 3. The Jets have a new offense and a coordinator who is an expert at running that offense, since it basically was a collaboration between him and Andy Reid and he called the plays. Right now it is incumbent on Mark Sanchez to prove that he should be starting for the Jets on opening day. If he can't do that then the odds are good that Geno Smith will be taking that first snap unless he proves to the Jets that he's just not ready to go yet. Even then, the Jets need to see Smith in action this year and they can't wait too long to do it if Sanchez is not holding up his end. All of the active factors in play are pushing the Jets towards a simple decision here. Is Sanchez much better than he's been recently? If yes then play him unless Smith is looking very good. If no then Sanchez time as the Jets starting QB is likely over.
Forget the cap if you're Tampa Bay and we offer Sanchez straight up for Freeman do you believe in your heart of heart that they pull the trigger? Schotty was not as bad as you make him out to be. He did a decent job of limiting his throws and and calling plays where he didn't have too many reads. It wasn't until 2011 when they decided to let Sanchez throw more and we all know how that turned out. Romo gets his fair share of shit (deservedly so) but he's still a good QB. Weapons don't mean shit if you can't throw the ball to them. I don't use team stats as QB stats. If we're gonna judge a QB I'm gonna judge him on things like accuracy, pocket presence, footwork, etc. not the Jets made the playoffs in 09 and 10 so Sanchez has to be better than _____ arguments.
Hey, you said " they only change the rules, to help the offense." You can't defend your statement. It's simply wrong. I guess you missed that...
Im not a fan of Romo... But he's 10 times the QB Sanchez ever was. I saw Sanchez's ceiling before he turned to shit 2 years ago as Romo. Now? Pshh. He cant sniff Romo's ass. Cant wait for the "Romo blows under pressure while Sanchez steps up in big games" argument...
What if Sanchez runs into Romo's ass? He could probably sniff it that way. And hey, Sanchez has been known to do that.
Just putting this out there, what if Geno also has a poor TC and pre-season...then what? I do agree though, if Geno is as 'good' as Mark at whatever level that is he will get the nod. Personally, I would like Geno to sit for as long as possible and learn a bit more, even if he is the best QB on the team. We are in rebuild mode and in no hurry, that said though, if Geno is going to make mistakes that won't be costly, then maybe now is the time to make and learn from them. As has been said before, for once this QB competition is real and hopefully we end up getting 3 good QBs out of it
