Why would he put up a stink about his contract considering how his numbers look? We know what Sanchez is at this point. We need to see if Geno can actually be the long term solution. Until we see him on the field he's an unknown. First of all Sanchez has never been "good" he's been average at best. Based on his play its hard to believe that he'll turn things around but I wish him luck in that regard. You're right let the best man win but if Sanchez beats out Geno while still playing like shit then we're fucked.
QB play and the defense both take the blame. Offense was stagnant for 3 quarters of the Colts game, and for the entire first half of the Steelers game. Yeah the defense gave up 17 points to the Steelers in the first half, but they didn't surrender a single point the rest of the game, and Sancho fumbled, which they returned for a TD to put us in a 24-0 hole at half. Sanch is as much to blame as the D is.
How do you know what Sanchez is, besodes a guy that came up big in big spots? Shit OCs, no help at the skill positions, yet...one losing season.
I am not a sheep to the New York media Are we still telling age jokes, umm okay A team with the cap issues we had would have chopped Sanchez if it meant saving 6-8M dollars Now the injury to Garrard killed that so it's good to have a vet unless Geno is ready or Rex takes his blinders off
Because I watched him play for 4 years? What Sanchez is, is an average at best, mediocre QB, that can look passable if he is surrounded by decent players. You say he came up "big in big spots". Wasn't the Titans game a big spot? Wasn't the Eagles, Giants and Dolphins games in 2011 "big spots". Yet he failed. He is nowhere as clutch as you make him out to be. He did have some clutch moments, but I bet I can cherry pick any bust QB and find at least 1 clutch game from them. You on one hand say he didn't have enough weapons last year yet the skill position players this year isn't any better than last year. So how do you expect him to be good if the skill position players aren't a drastic improvement over last year?
http://onejetatatime.com/index.php/July/12-mark-sanchez-lack-of-weapons-or-self-inflicted-wounds-pt-1.html interesting article, not any time to talk about it for me, just wanted to share.
Yeah but I said if he was able to cut and we'd save money against the cap he'd be gone That was common knowledge because we were so cash strapped We probably could have gotten a vet via free agency or the trade market like; Kyle Orton or Matt Hasselbeck instead of Garrard or we could have even made the trade for Alex Smith
Hasselbeck or Orton would have been good options to have while Geno develops He'll if we had the cap space to deal for Alex Smith we could have addressed other issues until we found a young QB You dudes on here kill me but then again your reply lacked any substance so I don't know why I bother
Orton / Hasselbeck gives us a one way ticket to a top 5 pick. Hasselbeck is never healthy and Orton is a loser that won't win you any games. There's your substance - and another reason I give you flack is because it appears according to your signature you want Rex fired. I don't know about you, but I'm not a fan of tanking. Let Geno and Mark battle it out for the job. Mark still has upside and is a proven playoff performer.
They passed on every free agent QB the haters wanted. Kolb, Matt Flynn etc.... And they had the cash. The FO knows the problem is not Sanchez.
I don't want to tank and I don't want Rex fired but I'm coming to grip with some realities this fan base is going to get a glimpse of 1. Mark Sanchez WILL NOT be a Jet past this season 2. Geno Smith is the future of the franchise 3. John Idzik will fire Rex Ryan unless this team makes the playoffs and I say that because it would be another year and another step back. Part of that is Rex having so much success in his first 2 years and seemingly going in reverse(I miss Revis so much I wrote Revis instead of reverse lol) 4. A new regime is taking over slowly with the next 2 years this team will be overhauled and for better or worse a ton will change As for my sig Rex won't be here forever and Kingsbury is an up and coming coach who can 1. Handle New York, 2. Install an innovative offense and 3. Scheme around his talent and not his philosophy
They did not have the money to tie all that up into 1 position Idzik restructured Fergusons contract for a reason, Mark was as good as cut Sanchez would not be here if it weren't for the Tannenbaum extension
Why go to such extremes w/ the viewpoints? You say he came up small in big spots in 2011...what about against Buffalo, Dallas,& Washington? What about the 32 Tds he accounted for? When he's surrounded w/ good talent & has a suitable game plan he can make plays. In the rationale world of reasonability making plays does not equate to awful OR average. The 1st string personnel is the same as a season ago. But how can you ignore the development factor of young guys like Kerley & Hill? Or that the majority of the 1st,2nd, & even 3rd string skill players missed half the 2012 season..leaving Mark w/ no names signed off the street starting. Not only did those guys lack talent..but they had no time to absorb the playbook! He's wildly inconsistent. The turnovers need to be radically curved..and yes to this stage he has been a disappointment. But the extremities this fan base has gone to portraying this guy as a talentless back-up are just ridiculous.
More than likely he will not, it would have to take one hell of a comeback for him to stay on the team. If the team is successful and he plays his role on the team he could come back. He's not the future yet. Nothing is set in stone. In order to be the future you need to prove something in the present. Rex won't get fired if the team doesn't make the playoffs. Player development, and if they show any sort of fight for 16 games he will stay. With MM as our OC, Rex can focus on the defense. He could have a Gary Kubiak like revival this season. The team is attempting to get more talent, after Tannebaum ruined the team after the AFCCG against the Steelers (that off-season) we needed to reload and start over. Rex can still be here if he proves it to Idzik. Kingsbury might sound like a good NFL HC, but that's another convo for another time if Rex goes.
.5 ypa difference is nothing to write home about. Completion percentage is much more important when talking about production and Geno had 71% in his senior year. Sanchez threw more deep balls, that doesn't make him more productive. He's got a stronger arm, and that's something we already knew. Geno beat Sanchez in yards, comp%, TDs, INTS, TD to INT ratio. QB rating was almost the same. The one stat he beat him in is ypa, and it wasn't by much. Sorry, but Geno Smith murked Sanchez in his senior year and the stats are clear as day. 42 TDs to 6 INTS? That's 7:1. Sanchez was at 3:1. Sanchez hasn't even had an above average year as an NFL QB yet. 2010 he had his best TD to INT ratio (around 2:1), but his efficiency was lacking. In 2011 he was a good scorer but turned the ball over constantly which negated a lot of that. The point of the whole thing is that Geno is much more experienced now than Mark was in 2009. He isn't even close to as raw as Sanchez and we had no problem throwing him to the wolves. Obviously we're talking college and the NFL is completely different beast, so you really never know. I just don't see the competition as already decided like you do. Geno definitely has a fighting chance and I am looking forward to TC and preseason to see what he's got.
1. You don't come across Peyton Mannings and Tom Bradys every now and then. 2. That means, you will more than have to make do with what you have. [This is not just Jets problem. This is a problem for nearly every team that doesn't have bona fide HoF quality QB on the roster.] 3. Given the protection and weapons, Sanchez showed he could perform - this no one can deny. So what's such a radical problem? Nearly every QB not named Brees, Brady or Manning will need that. 4. Let me tell you where I stand; Sanchez sucks. I KNOW it. I don't need that repeated to me - I was one of the more vociferous posters here about how Sanchez's fundamentals have eroded. That said, before putting Bust seal on his forehead, make sure he really IS a bust. See what he can do with legitimate OC, decent protection and good enough weapons. If he still fails, it is not too late to cut him loose then. As for Geno - I see him as glorified Joey Harrington with attitude problem. 5. If Sanchez does perform, then that's the best situation for the Jets - they can ship off Sanchez for a few more picks, and draft another stud QB prospect in the 1st round. OR they can build around Sanchez, give him sufficient protection and weapon, then ride the defense to the championship. Either way, it's a win-win situation. 6. If Sanchez shits the bed? Who didn't know that was coming anyway? Big fucking deal.
