lol thinking Geno is selfish because he didn't go to Sanchez's camp is moronic. Especially since you can build chemistry (with pads on, I may add) at training camp and preseason. Throwing around water balloons and sprint races don't exactly help on the football field.
Geno is better served to stay as far away from Jets west as possible. He was given specific things to work on from MM and Lee. I am sure one of them may have spoken to the trainers he is working with, so that everyone is on the same page. Geno is working on his fundamentals which will help position him better to compete with Mark. It will also be one less thing coaches will have to teach him four years from now. Makes no sense for him to be at JW team building, if he then is not ready for camp. Matter of fact that only plays into the idea that its Marks job already and Geno just has to sit and learn. That may be the case in the end, but I want the new guy to come in fighting with the mind set of taking the job from Mark.
Those assumptions are a bit of a reach imho. While I don't think Smith should be bound to attend Jets West, I certainly don't base it on any "Sanchez hate" nor would I come to the conclusion that Geno's being selfish by workinig out instead in Fla.
why would anyone go to a camp that is being run by someone who has proved his incompetence over and over. Is it the politically correct thing to do? It certainly has little, if any, football value.
if geno was the only qb not to go this could be an issue. the fact that simms and mcelroy skipped shouldshow marks lame duck status and make this a non issue
This is the offseason. Every NFL player is going to prepare the way in which they feel will make them a better player. Mark has his way of preparing, and Geno obviously has a different way. There will be plenty of time to bond in Cortland. I fail to see why people have a problem with this.
That actually gives Sanchez more of an advantage more than anything. Healthy targets all showed up to Jets West - that's all that really matters for Sanchez. I doubt he cares if McElroy and Simms showed up - they have no chance to start anyway in the NFL. If Hill, Kerley, Cumberland didn't show up - there would be an issue
I couldn't find a list of who attended, but I didn't see any future hall of famers in the pictures I saw. Was Mangold even there? I hear he's awesome at water balloon catch.

I just hope Geno shows up to camp with his footwork under center polished up. That's the first step to making it a real competition.
the fact that they are not falling in line behind mark shows that there is some doubts about who is going to be the starter. last year when rex was shouting from the rooftop that marks the qb mcelroy had no problems going out there. this year i guess he just had better things to do
From the reports we've heard the single most important thing for Geno Smith to be working on at this point is his footwork. Going to Jets West wouldn't have done anything to advance that. It's one thing when you have a tight crew and they're all pulling in the same direction and you take them off to get some more bonding time. It's another thing entirely when you have a misfiring collection of misfits and you take them off to throw water balloons and eat meals together for several days. Sanchez has had Jets West for 3 years prior to this and not once did a coherent offense that was capable of working together well come out of the affair. The parts of the Jets offense that actually worked well, when it was working, were the offensive line and the running game and those guys don't go to Jets West.
Maybe the Jets, with their awesome "change of pace" offensive scheme, should trot out McElroy and Simms during the game. That would really drive the opponents defense nuts. They can call it the Four Locos Offense™
Jets West was run with military precision. There was a high school coach there to oversee the event. I'm sure he checked to see everyone was wearing a jock. If a water balloon fight breaks out during a game, we're covered.
What Jets West has been essentially is a media event designed to promote the notion that Mark Sanchez was the leader of the offense. This done because his play on the field gives a very different impression.
If this was the case why does almost the entire set of skill players show up. Why was the media shut out of the event to start? The players generally don't like the media any more then we do so there's no reason to cater to them and show up. The players not getting anything ( maybe a t-shirt and a free meal or 2 ) to be out there. They must see some value in spending time with their teammates. But you're all right. The people on this forum probably know whats good for the team more then the players do,.. It's only their career.
In other news, Geno has purchased himself a 2014 Ferrari 434.. You can see it on his Instagram - genosmith7
