I personally cannot wait until these next few weeks pass by and we can actually begin to tell what else we have at the qb position ! By " what else " I mean we pretty much know what we have in Sanchez but lets see if anyone else is ready to step up and play ? Sanchez has a very steep hill to climb , maybe it's a good thing if the stadium is half empty because the boos will be deafening if and when he struggles,,,,,,,,,oh and the post game presses should be déjà vuuuuu all over again

It is easy to see where the issue lies but you just won't accept it.

Pennington threw for 22tds and only 6 ints with Paul Hackett in 2002. Just a year later coming off an injury he threw for only 13tds and 12 ints in just 10 games played. It was the same OC. If Schotty had taken over in 2003 you would be blaming him. Things change from year to year especially when you are coming off an injury.

You keep bringing up 26TDs in 2011. A rookie QB had more TDs in 2011 than Sanchez did. In 2011 Brees threw 46 TDS which was the 4th highest in NFL history. Rodgers threw 45. Matthew Stafford threw 41 TDs. 3 QBs threw for more than 40 TDs and over 5,000 yards. Nearly half the league's QBs threw for 20 or more TDs including 2 rookie QBs.

    Mark's rank in completions? #15
Mark's rank in completion percentage? #28
    Mark's in yards? #15
Mark's rank in Yards per attempt? #27
Mark's rank in interceptions thrown? Tied for 3rd most.
Mark's rank in TDs thrown? #9

    Chad's rank in completions? #8
Chad's rank in completion percentage? #4
    Chad's rank in yards? #10
Chad's rank in yards per attempt? #13
Chad's rank in interceptions thrown? #7
Chad's rank in TDs thrown? tied for #17

    Pennington under performed Sanchez?

I quoted Junc, but I love your tenacity.

The fact that Rex hired Sparano opens up a whole new can of debate worms.

It just may be the dumbest thing he's done as the Jets head coach...including that tattoo.

Is it any wonder why we sucked last year? I blame everybody from the front office down, you guys blame everyone except Sanchez.

there you go posting meaningless #s out of context again.

I love Chad, one of my all time favorites but Sanchez 2009-2010 was better than Chad 2006-2007 by a wide margin. 2002 or 2004 we have a different argument.

Chad really sucked that last year in '07. The completion percentage is high but that's because he was making a lot of check downs short of the distance the Jets needed for a 1st down.

His numbers that year for the Jets are eerily similar to the numbers David Carr put up in his last year with the Texans before they gave up on him.

I do believe that it was the offense he was running and the personnel he was running it with but don't be fooled by the high completion percentage. He had a bad year that year.

2007 our OL was as bad as it has ever been and Chad got hurt again in week 1 which limited him. That's why his #s were down more than anything else.

Those numbers are comparing Chad in 2006 under Schotty to Sanchez in 2011 under Schotty. Not only does Pennington have the much better numbers he won more games and made the playoffs. Go ahead and give me your best argument for why Sanchez in 2011 was better than Pennington in 2006.

You do know this is a team game right? Put 2006-2007 Chad with us instead of Sanchez in 2009-2010 and we make the Super Bowl.

I don't think this is right.

Chad wasn't going to get us by the Steelers in 2010. Whether he beats Peyton Manning in 2009 with that great defense behind him is another question and I'm not sure what I think about that. Peyton figured out the Jet's D with about 10 minutes to go in the 1st half and never looked back. I'm not sure Chad had the gas left in his tank by 2006 to have dealt with a runaway Hall of Fame QB.

You put 1998 Vinny on the 09/10 teams and they go to the Super Bowl.

Oh, my mistake. I'd give 2006 Chad the nod over 2011 mark. Both were solid seasons though but w/ Mark's ending the way it did I go Chad.

Again, I love Chad but to say 2006/2007 Chad would get us to a SB is silly. Look what Chad did in the playoff game at NE vs. what mark did at the playoff game at NE(and we faced a better NE team in 2010).

mark is not a stat guy but he played his best in January, Chad had good moments in January but was never the postseason QB mark was/is.

There is only one QB we could almost guarantee a SB w/ in '09 or '10 and that is Brady and he's the best QB of his generation so it is unfair to compare Mark to him.

The "great" defense in 2009 allowed 20 pts. Is it reasonable to expect any QB to have to score 31 pts on the road to win?

'98 Vinny? I can agree w/ that, even when we lost to Den it wasn't his fault.

    '98 Vinny
    '10 Rodgers
    Brady in most years
    Brees '09

it's a very small list that would have gotten us further than we got w/ Mark and w/ many we probably don't even make it far as the title game.

Again, I'm going to disagree here.

The '09 team was short a QB, period. Any good QB capable of both efficient short passing and taking some shots down the field would have had a good shot at getting the Jets to a Super Bowl given what was one of the top 20 or so defenses of all time behind him and the running game the Jets had.

My argument on Chad is that Chad was no longer capable of making most of the throws by 2006. He was limited by the accumulated arm problems at that point and he had a strong tendency to take the wide open throw as opposed to trying to put the ball in a tight space by then.

By 2006 a risky throw for Chad was the sideline or end zone corner throws that had to be put in just the right place for the receiver to catch them or they'd be out of bounds and incomplete.

I think there were at least a dozen QB's playing in 2009 that take the Jets to a Super Bowl. The Jets didn't have one of those guys.

Sanchez played well in 2010. One can argue that a better QB gets us to 14-2, and home field advantage in the playoffs

Hacketts offense, while frustrating, was far more sound, and better suited to modern reality, than Schottys.

Chad completed more passes, greater pct. i said that. And for all your QB listings, its interesting to note that chad never got to 20 under B.S.

16 games, 17 scores 16 picks, he only played 10 the next season, but was +1 as well.

2011, sanchez threw 26 tds against 18 ints. Ran in 6 more, but did give up 8 fumbles. 32-26.

The other variable, in 2011, of course is Moore, which when coupled with Pennys performance in the same system, is a further indictment of schotty.

And did you seriously mean to imply, by using Rodgers, and STAFFORD? That Sanchez has been afforded those same offensive players? Really? Megatron? Cmon man, thats deflection.

And, fwiw, you just used stats, without context

This is true. Having Curtis Martin was a key though. Hackett's offense would have collapsed in a heap if the running game ever became unstable.

That would help. If we had Marty, we go to playoffs 4 times out of 4 under Rex and get homefield in 2010.

Yes, true. But...hackett at least understood that playing between the hashes in the intermediate distance was more successful, than going outside.

    Schotty still doesnt get that.

It's ok, we are allowed to disagree.

Mark was near flawless at Cincy

the difference in the SD game was Rivers tried to force things and Mark did not.

In the title game we allowed 30 pts, is it fair for any QB to expect 31 or more pts on the road in a title game? It COULD happen but is it fair to expect? The last time a road team scored more than 30 in a title game and won was 2005 Pitt. It doesn't happen often.

We faced a legendary postseason choker, had him down by double digits then made him look like he does in the reg season for one of the very few times in postseason.

I think there were a few capable of taking us to the SB but we didn't lose b/c of QB play, we lost b/c our defense failed in a big spot again.

I just dont see how this guy remains an OC.

Sparano, couldnt manage another OC gig, and he had injury problems.

This guy had Pennington, and couldnt do shit, got a more physically talented QB, and a great defense, but the offensive quagmire remained, and while its possible some coaches might say the green QB was the issue, when you look at his body of work, ints are a constant, and Pennington, doesnt throw them generally.
