I think Tennessee are Buffalo are both more winnable than this one. I will say this...I have a feeling this may be a come from behind game too. Like the Cowboys game two years ago.
I would test Revis on the first play. bomb it down the field to Stephen Hill he's is insanely fast and beat Relle a few times in practice. other than that I would run a bunch of short passes spread the defense out then attack the middle of the field. mix a few running plays in and we should be good. I think this game will have a lot of turnovers. Sanchez will definitely throw a pick or two with all the ballhawks on the Bucs. Freeman is the same boat. he'll test our secondary and get picked off a few times. I say there is a total of 6 turnovers in this game and the Jets win a close one 13-10.
Revis jams at the scrimmage and he is fast. Even if its not INT, it's very unlikely to be a completion. Why give them confidence at the very start? (Or is this a way to be able to scream "trade was a mistake!" after the game?)
he doesn't have a bad idea. if revis is limited throughout t.c and preseason, I would run him a lot. see how those hammy's holdup after 3-4 40 yard dashes in a row. if you can get him in the slot you can make him cut each direction, try that knee out. someone said earlier, run some tosses in his direction and see if he can breakdown and tackle. get ivory with a head of steam running right at him. he is coming off a significant injury lets not concede he is who he was. make him show it. we don't have to throw at him, but design some plays to check him out early
I don't disagree that it's not a bad idea, but there are better ones. Passing first makes sense with a good QB, not with Sanchez or Geno (in his first NFL snap). The chances of completion are low. even lower against Revis (fully healthy or not). So why give away a down? Run or short pass makes more sense IMO.
thanks for contributing, this thread was really lacking substance before you chimed in this well thought out nugget of knowledge
Neither team is gonna get much done through the air. Doug Martin is a scary player to have to stop. We gotta hope to be better against the run this year. I'm thinking Chris Ivory can be an x-factor here.
The way to beat the Bucs week one is to really turn up the pressure on Josh Freeman and get him off to a bad start on the season. Shouldn't be that hard to do. On offense the Jets need to spread the field and put a bunch of players in the pattern. The way to beat a good secondary is to force their 3rd, 4th and 5th cover guys to defend a lot of passes. The way to beat a good secondary with a great player in it is to make him irrelevant by picking on the weak links. The Pats have shown us how to beat the Bucs by mangling us repeatedly over the last two years. Now we just need to put together an offense that can handle the job.
I can't believe there are people suggesting we go at revis. Maybe I'm just dumb but that's the last thing I think we should be trying. There's a reason why elite corners arent worth 16 million a year ... because you can easily avoid them by going after the weaker links. Hopefully morningwood isn't a retard.
The only way I'd think that going at Revis made any sense would be if the Bucs put him on Stephen Hill and the Jets had Hill running deep routes all game. Revis can be beat deep by a big fast receiver if they manage to get off the line of scrimmage. In that situation I wouldn't mind the Jets taking a couple of shots down the sideline against Revis during the game. The QB just has to be smart enough to know that having a step on Revis doesn't mean the same thing as having a step on a normal CB.
I don't think anyone is saying go at him exclusively. my thinking is, if they are holding him back in preseason and t.c., who ever he lines up on needs to run some go routes to see if he is loose and in condition. remember his hammy after the holdout? lets not concede to his greatness from the start when we could send him to the sideline by making him work. like i said earlier. we don't have to throw at him, just be smart about what routes he has to cover.
You can work his hammy without throwing at him. It just strikes me as something schotty would try. Ohhhh they're never going to see this coming!
This only works if you're a low turnover offense. If you use the strategy and turn the ball over you're basically giving the other team real opportunities to score while you have few opportunities and a long chain of events on each drive leading to more turnovers.
agreed and schotty always reminded me of the scene from princess bride with the guy choosing the wine glass
2 strong defenses. 2 suspect QB's. The game plans will be similar, with execution, Oline play, and turnovers deciding it. My guess is 20 pts wins game. Considering our QB and WR positions are the weak point on Offense, and the secondary is Tampa's strong point on D, I'd try to be physical up front. The big boys have to pave the way for our RB's in the run and on screen passes. They have to keep the heat off the QB as well, to keep turnovers down. Winslow and Kerley should also be very active in the short passing game. On D, take chances and pressure Freeman. We may get burnt here or there, but I'm sure we can force a turnover or 2 as well. Tampa will definitely try to run and play a possession game (just like we will), so we better look a little sharper at stopping the run than last year. getting after Freeman is more important, but stopping the run has to be at least adequate.
