easy, you save 8 million if you rid yourself of Sanchez, and you may have a guy at about the same level of play if not better with a higher playing ceiling in GS3.

the way I see it is, Smith is young, cheap (for now) and not too far off from where Sanchez is in terms of play.

Sanchez is an easy thing to be rid of after this year, and the Jets cap situation next year doesn't yield as much relief as one would think. This and the fact that he hasn't exactly played well leaves him on thin ice.

I mean it'll take a pro bowl season for the Jets not to be rid of him this time next year. Otherwise?

"Okay guy who only played only marginally better, I have a QB that has rode the pine this year who's basically ready to come in and take your place, he's WAY cheaper than you, at LEAST at your level, and we can get some support for him with the money we saved from NOT paying you this season.

why should I keep you around?"

yeah, I think exploring trading options is definitely in the cards for a a guy like that, if only to salvage something out of him.

A.Smith warranted a second round pick, if theres a team running a west coast system looking for an experienced player familiar with that, they could try to seek out Sanchez. He'd still be an easy cut if they simply assumed his contract, and while that whole bit about him winning in the playoffs is tired around these parts it should speak to outsiders even a little bit.

This of course assumes that Sanchez isn't a fantastic player that we would never want to part with. unlikely, but hey it could happen.

Smith has a pretty low amount of trade value, sure he's cheap but why waste time with a sophomore player when one could get a rookie? He has more value to us than is worth trading for, unless Bridgewater is on the table and is every bit the guy he's hyped up to be.

no, he'd be on contract with us till 2016.

You gotta define what "fails" mean. You know how it'll go: Every Mark's INT will be the fault of someone else, and every TD (including but not limited to punt returned) will be due to Mark's leadership and skills. :)

My point is, the defense did more than held up their part of the bargain. Didn't I tell you? Jets D stopped Broncos from scoring - FROM JETS 40. FOUR TIMES IN SECOND HALF ALONE. What was the offense doing all the time? NOTHING.

If I have to tell you, the 3 point in the second half is a direct result of Broncos fumbling a kickoff. It's not like the offense marched down then got FG. Other than the opening drive, THE OFFENSE DID EXACTLY NOTHING.

On top of that, I do take exception about "This team is built around defense" bullshit. That DOES NOT mean Offense can stink to the high heavens and avoid blame. Defense is the strength of the team - I get it. That does NOT mean other departments can freeride all the way. That's not how it works. They must do their part - Colts D might have sucked at run D, but when it came to stopping the other team's passing attack, THEY DID THEIR FUCKING JOB. Ok?

Hes most certainly a place holder if he starts. Barring a fantastic year, I can't see him being around next year. An average year is just a reason to trade him (which they'll try anyhow)

His contract and the Jets cap situation is just screaming from the heavens CUT THIS MAN. Unless he REALLY turns it around it doesn't matter if he starts week 1 or not, he's not long for this city.

He is skating on the thinnest of ices right now; if he's ever replaced by Smith, he's done. if the playoffs are impossible under his watch, he's done, they'll put in Smith immediately.

Really if he zigs when he should have zagged a few too many times, its over for him.

Still, as long as he's on the team I hope he plays well.

No, Sanchez needs to get a decent completion level, win games.

A better TD/Int ratio than 2011 would be nice.

Imo, the Jets have no business starting the season, less than 3-1.

But for that to happen, Sanchez needs to play to the level he flashes, not the level he plays at consistently.

You realize, how Sanchez hatred warps the mind?

The defense of Mark Sanchez at this point is where I see the warps.

The Jets have never given a worse QB more opportunities. People pointing at Richard Todd need to realize that if Sanchez had played in the 70's he'd be a basket case already.

Give me a break. There is hardly any Geno Smith coverage, and Jets fans are characteristically wanting to move on to the next guy, and you have tried to equate that to the fanaticism that follows Tebow around.

The only one in this thread that can come close to the level of fanaticism of the Tebots is you, in favor of Sanchez.

If you end up leading any parade for Geno Smith, it will be as a drunken streaker with a green number 6 painted on his chest.

Is there a way to put a shock collar on Mark , so that when he fucks up that they can deliver a jolt. He needs Pavlovian training.

I wonder how fans would think if the Colts did not bench their players in 2009 and the Jets finished 7-9 or 8-8. Then made the playoffs in 2010, went nowhere, and 2011 and 2012 went as they did. Would people still want to give Sanchez one more chance? I think the 4 playoff wins, 2 AFC Title Game appearances, are what fans like myself hold on to. Especially, since the Jets are such a loser franchise. We all know those games were a team effort led by the defense, but Sanchez was still the leader of the offense and got the job done.

That's the only reason why people still support him. They remember the first two Sanchez years and sort of marginalize the last two years.

sanchez probably doesn't get the extension and isn't on the team in your scenario

I wonder what the reaction would be if the naked butt video had happened after the 2010 season. I doubt the uproar would be as loud as it was this week

Is there a way we can put a shock collar on you, so that when you approach a computer, you are subdued to the point of paralysis?

You bring nothing to any conversation on this forum. Absolutely nothing.

Do you remember what his deal was before the extension? I don't remember. I assume it was his rookie deal, which I think was for $50 million. Was that a 5 year deal?

Over the cap comes through with a article on his extension and why it needed to happen at the time.

We really don't want to go there.

It takes years to recover from a really terrible season (3 wins or less) and often the recovering team dips right back into the muck after a period of mediocrity following the horrible season.

The Colts won 1 game in 1991 and had a lost decade after that which was only salvaged by Peyton Manning and even then the season that got him was 3-13 and his first season was 3-13.

If the Jets win 3 games or less this season the odds are really good that we don't see them highly competitive until about 2021 and there's no shot at a QB that is worth that.

We won't be that bad. My guess is that we'll have a floor of 6-10 and a ceiling of 10-6. We'll end up at 9-7.

You have to take in consideration the lack of decent to good starting QB's this franchise has had. This is why Mark is getting another shot (amgonst other franchise mistakes). What other franchise has struck out more at this position than the Jets?

*Most playoff wins In franchise history

*Most game winning drives in franchise history (single season)

*Most wins in a single season, franchise record (tied with Kenny O)
