He's right though. I'm not a Sanchez supporter anymore but if he has a 25td 12int year then Geno is the trade bait
I think every jet fan hopes and prays that MM and the coaching staff can somehow fix Sanchez but I just can't imagine it happening. I believe the only reason Sanchez is still on the roster is the money he is owed. You would like to believe that M M and the coaching staff like Sanchez for his ability and talent but we have all seen the decisions he has made on the field and the guy looks worse now 4 yrs into this than better. If Sanchez does indeed start game 1 and he does not come out and move the team and looks as bad as he did last year ,the boos and Sanchez sucks chants will be deafening from the get go ! Sanchez is in a very tough spot rite now and I can't say that he did not put himself there, Rex gave him way too much rope and now they both are close to the noose . can M M fix him ? Time will tell and as I said I hope so but I just can't see it , as a wiseman once said " wish in one hand and shit in the other "
Hired a legitimate OC. Its that simple. Its also why Idzik was comfortable stockpiling another 1st round cb,another 1st round dline player, when there was offensive talent on the board.
No way would Geno Smith be trade bait after ONE season. If Mark miraculously pulls a 25 TD 12 INT 62% season then Geno will continue to see the sidelines and develop. MM would then make the evaluation of whose the better QB maybe another season down the road. If I'm the Jets no way do I fall for a 1 season wonder from MS, if he wants to revive his career in NYC, he needs at least 2 seasons of good play in a row.
Two seperate questions-not necessarily intertwined. He was a massive value at 39, but that has little to do with what value he might have next year. _
1st, what does "fixing" Sanchez mean? Are we talking about giving him premier WRs, stellar OL, top-tier RB and 1st ranked defense so that he can rediscover his confidence and once again become top-15 QB, by numbers?
No. We barely have enough offensive talent as it is. More like going back and getting back to the fundamentals, holding onto the football. Footwork, etc. 5th year QB still learning ...
Thats the complete opposite of what the 49ers did with Kaepernick and Smith. Kaepernick got on the field by running, essentially, the wildcat, until Smith got hurt. Im not sure how that translates being that Mark could get hurt the same way Smith did. If we could get anything for Sanchez, Id call it a win at this point. ------------- As for the thread, no I do not think that MM is Jim Harbaugh. IMO, Jim Harbaugh is the best coach in the NFL right now. What he did with his QB situation is certainly not easy, and extremely hard to replicate. I do think our QB situation is very similar to theirs two years ago, but I dont think that it works out the same way. Plus, I think Geno Smith is much more far along than Kaepernick was entering the NFL. But then again, the 49ers incorporated Kaep's college pistol offense to the NFL into their WCO in order to play to his strengths while letting him develop more as a pocket passer. This is something that I think MM could/should look to do with Geno (not the pistol offense, but more work from shotgun and then work in more plays from center).
Not sure how you come to that conclusion... if you have a QB that you want to build around, wouldn't you want to give him as many weapons as possible? See Matt Ryan, Tom Brady, Peyton Mannin, Eli, Rodgers... hell even Ponder and Locker. Their teams are clearly going all in on them. The Jets have done just the opposite with Sanchez. Clearly Sanchez has struggled, I think even you can admit that. Why would the organization (if they truly believed in him like you say), not go out and surround him with better players at any cost? This may just be me, but if you think you have a franchise QB on your hands, I would expect the team to try and put him in the best situation as possible. Looking at the Jets current team and moves, have they done that? No. They've gutted the team, lost Sanchez's favorite target to a rival team in FA, havent gone after any notable vet WR's (lloyd), havent explored the trade route, ect. The way I see it, the Jets view Mark Sanchez right now (if he were to start), as a place holder and nothing more. Much of their offseason moves point to that. And please dont use MM to oppose this- they hired an OC, which they needed. As simple as that. This is clearly a "rebuilding" year, and its not very likely that you come through a rebuild with the same QB on both sides because usually they are a reason FOR the rebuild.
Yep, pretty much. Back in 09, 10. My point is that unless Idzik finds another desperate KC, showcasing Sanchez is a waste of time. They should do it anyway on the off chance someone will be desperate enough to bite, but don't count on big payday. And no, this does not mean that I want to showcase Geno. IMO Jets should get as much mileage from Mark as possible then sell him if there is a buyer for the old guzzler or just ditch him.
Isn't Sanchez a UFA after this yr? He's playing for his next contract if that's the case, no trading.
If MM transformed Sanchez, why would Geno be trade bait? If anything, we would hang on to Geno to gain valuable experience for a few years while Sanchez starts. Once Sanchez's talents degress or he gets injured, we have a guy that can start and become another potential star. Why would you trade him?
Can Sanchez play as good as Brady this year?? I guess these hypotheticals are just fodder for the long summer months. No, MM is not Jim Harbaugh. The league knows what MM is. He's been around plenty long to see what he does. He's not reinventing himself. Harbaugh has taken the NFL by storm. MM is a journeyman NFL coach. Would it be great if he turned Sanchez into a good NFL QB? Sure. Will it actually happen? No.
