not to mention that the 'stats' the guy used just dont line up... (the jets were NEVER a top 10 offense under schotty...)
#9 in scoring, but #15 in total offense. That's not a top 10 offense no matter how you cut it. And that was the year when Favre basically said "Fuck you, Schottenheimer. You are a fucking moron."
i thought they were 16 in total offense that year? either way, not too exciting for a team with a hof qb at the helm, and even worse when you consider that favre did in fact publicly talk about how the playbook was too complicated and they used a simple system he installed on the fly, and by 2011 our opponents were telling the media they knew what plays we were running based off motion and formation and he never changed shit up, etc... there are so many reasons behind saying schotty as a shit oc, but you have to cherry pick stats to make him look average... he must have so many redeeming qualities as a coordinator...
The thing is, you cannot defend Schottenheimer AND Sanchez. Someone I know on this board just pulled off that feat. Simply amazing...
It's funny you say this. Josh Freeman has Vincent Jackson, Carl Nicks and Doug Martin yet his job is still on the line and the CS doesn't have belief he will succeed.
Sure you can, we made 2 title games w/ them and mark looked by far his worst last year w/o Brian. I know that some of that was a coincidence b/c of injuries but since you guys don't like to use the injuries and healthy lack of talent he had as an excuse then you must believe losing Schottenheimer was part of the reason he looked so bad.
The point is, Moore was brought in to help the RZ offense. They finished 2nd kn the NFL, in that area. Focusing on a single game shows you have no real counter argument. (and Fwiw, except for the nacho fumble, which every one knows is an issue, they were good in the RZ in that game.that fumble came on the one, on two other trips, they put it away.)
If Schottenheimer truly had a say in his offense, we would be throwing the football like 30+ times a game with each third down play being designed to go behind the 1st down markers. His play design and playbook as a whole was a wash. The philosophy as a whole was a lab experiment that at times may of been successful, but it failed more times then it succeeded
Exactly. Reminds me of my new manager at work. He is terrible. So bad, that people began to say that our last manager was not so bad. I had to explain that "No, he was terrible. Deserved to be fired. This guy is just worse."
i dont think schottenheimer was as bad as people make him out to be. i also dont think he was a genius offensive mind. he was a middling oc, with a middling qb which made for a poor offense. i think he will do better in st louis but never be great. then again he may be a much better hc than an oc some day.
that is a ridiculous and horrible reason to say that he isnt bad. we all had thought that anyone would be an upgrade, and then sparano had a season to prove that schotty might not have been the WORST OC to ever coach in the nfl. but that doesnt all of a sudden make him good.
and Brian was scooped up in a second. He's well though of around the league, no matter who our OC is fans will always complain. he did a good, not great, job for us for many years and was underappreciated. Fans whine about our QB, OC, HC and GM- how in the world did we make it to 2 title games w/ such failures in key roles?
