More updates from yesterday's OTAs. Cheers! Credit to Dennis Agapito of Jets Nation http://www.jetnation.com/2013/06/11/day-one-minicamp-report-sanchez-struggles/
Chris Nimbley @Cnimbley 7m Jets just ran some trickery, not the point tho, Cro leveled Sanchez in open field (without the ball), Sanchez hopped up laughing I guess we know who Cro wants at QB. lol
Yes. Which guy regressed, which guy progressed? Context. (and nevermind, that they shared the same coach..) Look. Does any of this really matter, the fact is its 90 % Sanchez is under center opening day. The media, has two story lines for this off season.... Sanchez still sucks. Geno isnt beating Sanchez, forget he is a rookie, he must suck too. The only decent information we will get before they start playing, is from spectators.
If we had decent sports reporting we would get that on the evening news. Only thing better than a dumbass QB letting himself get hit in the open field like that, is when a WR catches a defender napping. I forget who it was, but in the ST.L game Kerley coming downfield, on the end of a play leveled a defender and the guy was pissed.
The only way Braylon gets here, is after they announce a decision at QB. Otherwise, it looks like they are favoring Sanchez.
Now this is the stuff I want hear about, thanks for the link! Hope they do one for today. namely I want to see what the damage behind the receiving corp is, if the RB's are still doing well, how the safety competition is going and yes how ES3 did with the first team on his own merit. fftopic:
Jane McManus @janesports 22m QB coach David Lee said Matt Simms has the best arm of all 4 Jets QBs. If accuracy were better, he'd be in hunt for starting job as well.
Rich Cimini @RichCimini Practice over: Geno Smith, working with No. 1s, was 2-for-7, 1 drop. Mark Sanchez 5-for-7, 1 TD, 1 sack. Bad day for WRs, especially Hill Rich Cimini @RichCimini QB coach David Lee says Sanchez, Smith are even, but listening to him confirms my belief that MS will be Wk 1 starter. Geno long way to go.
Come on, Hill! Get it together! I'm surprised that Kerley is having so many drops as well. If this continues, we have no choice but to try to sign Lloyd or Edwards. Somebody's gotta teach Hill how to overcome the dropsies.
How is it even if Geno only completed 2 passes going 2-7? Sanchez went 5-7 with a TD. What was the TD? Who was it to?
The TD was to a receiver who's name I did not recognize. Geno had one of his passes dropped, but I agree Sanchez had the better day today. Good news: Ricky Sapp is shaping up to be a pretty decent OLB based on camp performance. He may give Calvin Pace a run for the starting position.
Spoke to my father about what he saw at the OTA today, he said him and everyone around him basically unanimously agreed that Geno Smith looks much smoother / more crisp in the passing accuracy department. Sanchez's passes were wild where Smith was on the money just about every time. He also got to witness D-Line vs O-Line drills and said that the D-Line was blowing up the O-line and that the O-Line potentially is a concern. Jacquies Smith, Ricky Sapp, and Antwan Barnes in particular were dominating. Kerley apparently was dropping warm-up throws from the QBs, but Sims-Walker looked good. Marty Mornhinweg makes corrections / assessments to the players after every single play, and if the play isn't done correctly the players are forced to re-run that play over and over until they get it right. He ended up leaving early because apparently when the 7 on 7s start they move the players to the part of the field where only the people in the VIP section can actually see anything, so for the regular fans who just want to show up and enjoy an afternoon of watching Jets practice they are basically shit out of luck. Something to keep in mind if anyone else is thinking about going to any of these.
The only way to cure the dropsies is to catch thousands of balls in your spare time. It really helps if you are 13 when you are doing this also. By the time you get out to 22 or 23 your ability to naturally learn physical processes is already in steep decline. Practice and repetition is still the best prescription but the return on investment is much lower at that advanced age. Hill is on the spot at this point. He's either an NFL WR or he's a great athlete who is not.
Because receivers are dropping passes. Look at the numbers as an indictment on the receivers, not Smith.
It is even because that it is what he was told to say. Geno is a rookie in his first mini camp coming out of a non pro style offense. There is no way he beats out Sanchez, there is no way Sanchez gets cut. When and if the Jets go Geno Sanchez is done in NY and the only way that happens this season if Sanchez sucks so bad they have no choice or Sanchez gets hurt.
