I'll always take accuracy over arm strength. It should be impossible for MM to restore Sanchez if he doesn't improve his accuracy. The biggest cannon in the history of football would still be useless without a decent level of accuracy. NOT arguing with you here or opposing what you said - agreeing with everything you brought up. Just sayin'. ^^
Sanchez is complete dog shit. If Idzik cuts him June 1st, he has a good chance at a decent run as a successful GM in NY. If he keeps Sanchez after June 1st, he is 100% destined to fail and wont last more then 2 years. Mark my words (pun intended).
Idzik is in no way tied to Sanchez, if he keeps him its because he feels the team needs a veteran presence, he doesn't want to waste the money or *gasp* he actually plays well enough to warrant keeping him. The stage is set for him to be released next year unless he can play at a level that is appropriate for somebody of his payroll (9 mil base, a few more in bonus) which is unlikely, especially given theres more money that can be gained in cap space from his release next year. he isn't 100% destined to fail because of sanchez no mater what though, especially not for keeping him into mini-camp and beyond, how could you come to a decision like that?
He didn't fold, it's not just on him. we moved the ball, had some penalties, couldn't run it well. The bottom line is he and the O had us w/in a score w/ plenty of time to play and our D allowed Pitt to run out the clock. As far as his fumble which probably wasn't a fumble. he was blindsided, how can you blame him for that? It makes it sound like the D did an incredible job and got the ball right back for us in great FP. The D bent but didn't break and was lucky Pitt passed on 4th and 1 for some reason when they were running all over us. Pitt's O is pretty good and they have a damn good QB but we got gashed by the RUN game not by the QB most of the game. AGAIN, the bottom line is the O got us w/in a score w/ plenty of time left. Whatever happened before that drive became irrelevant. Our "big time" D had the season in their hands and they allowed Pitt to run out the clock. The only time kaepernick and SF took the lead was late in the game b/c their DEFENSE stopped Atlanta. Their D gave him and the O a chance, ours did not. if we had SF or NYG D we probably win both title games and at least have a chance to win on the final drive at Pitt. You may want to go back and read slower. You think 2010 and 2012 Os were comparable? If you do please bow out of this discussion b/c there is no reason to discuss this with you. Yep, did you see Holmes throwing and catching the balls himself? what a man! Holmes made big plays but last I checked Mark made big plays too and the big plays weren't always to Holmes, Edwards made a ton too but I'm sure they were all Edwards.
Regarding the Fumble, When you put the ball on the ground as often as Sanchez does, and he does it far more than any other player over the past 4 years, yeah some of the blame for the fumble definitely belongs to Sanchez. He holds the ball to long, doesn't hold the ball securely, and has horrible pocket awareness. So yes Junc, you can blame him, at least in large part. The Jets moved the ball against Pittsburgh, rofl.... The Jets had 9 drives in the game 4 of them, nearly 50% were 3 and outs. Of the Jets first 4 drives 3 of them were 3 and outs. One of them was a 7 play 29 yard "drive". In the first half they had one, one drive in excess of 30 yards and that was to close out the half for a field goal. The Jets offense managed to hold on to the ball for a whopping 8 out of 30 minutes, not even 1/3 of the half. But yeah Junc, the offense was "Really moving the ball well". Sanchez was 7-17 in the first half, with 4 of his completions coming on the final drive, prior to that he was 3 for 10...30% completion rate..ON SHORT PASSES! He threw for 41 fucking yards in the first half, 27 of them coming on the last drive of the half. do the math, on the other drives he totaled 14 freaking yards. so lets see, 7-17 passing, 41 yards passing, 0 TD's and a turnover in the first half. That is the definition of folding Junc. The defense didn't do good, but Sanchez did even worse. Sanchez had a good first drive in the second half, 31 yards by the running game 59 yards on the passing game, The 45 yard pass was to a wide open Holmes, I mean WIDE open. Was the defense perfect, no, in fact it had one of it's more poor games, BUT the fact remains, Sanchez could only keep the Jets offense on the field for 8 minutes out of 30...that left the defense on the field for 22 minutes, no time to catch their breath...A good QB gets his defense some down time, Sanchez couldn't and Didn't. And he totally sucked wind in the first half, 1/4 of Sanchez's total yardage came on one play in the 2nd half, the 47 yard pass to a wide open Holmes....I'll give him credit, he didn't underthrow the ball for a change. The only time Sanchez moved the ball in that game was when the Steelers were playing a soft defense.... The defense and special teams gave Sanchez good to decent field posistion in the second half and both times they did Sanchez did NOTHING with the ball, NOTHING. He had 2 good drives in the game, 2....out of 9.... No need to "read" slower Junc, you just miss every point. EVERY point. The Jets defense gave up 17 points to the Steelers, not a great performance by any means, but the offense couldn't do jack against the Steelers until the Steelers started playing a soft defense in the second half. Regarding the jets defense not getting the ball back at the end, ROFL, perhaps if sanchez had done something on the other 7 drives the DEFENSE wouldn't have needed to try and get the ball back from the Steelers at the end. And there you have why Sanchez had so many come back wins that season, the offense did jack shit for 3 quarters, the defense kept them in the damn games and Sanchez got off one or 2 good drives in the second half, doing jack shit for the rest of the game. In other words, with the exception of the defense giving up 17 points, the game was pretty emblomatic of the Jets season, 3 quarters of Sanchez fucking himself.
Oh, so the Oline was appalling. So, by your logic, Sanchez is justified in sucking because his oline sucked. Nice argument.
He does fumble too much but he only lost 1 in 2010 and it's hard to blame him for getting blindsided while throwing. we outgained Pitt, how did we not move the ball? One 3 and out was the result of a penalty another b/c of a sack The drive after Pitt rammed it down our throats on the opening possession we held it for 4 mins and got to Pitt's side of the field. It may not look great in a boxscore but it was a big possession as Pitt had all the momentum which our O helped halt for the time being. Folding is leading your team to ZERO pts like peyton and Eli have done, folding is throwing the big pick late in games, folding is not leading your O to pts. We got the game w/in a TD w/ plenty of time and all 3 TOs left, our D allowed Pitt to run out the clock.
There are competing narratives around the Sanchez situation at the moment. Idzik has said the Jets starters will be competition-based this year with few players guaranteed jobs and most having to fight for them. So if the Jets release Sanchez they are going against that narrative since nobody else on the roster is likely to provide good competition for Geno Smith. On the other hand Idzik is also dealing with the Jets big problems, handling them in sequence and resolving as many of them as he can manage in the process. Cap cuts (obvious), depth via stopgap signings and a focused draft effort, Revis, Tebow, etc. Somewhere in here the Sanchez problem has to become the #1 job on his plate and it's not clear at what point that happens. So the Sanchez problem is actually an Idzik vs Idzik issue. Competition vs forcibly moving the franchise on from it's problems. It'll be interesting to see which way he goes on this one. It'll tell us a lot about how much of next year is devoted to damage control.
I'm firmly in the 'Sanchez is done' camp, but I'll tell you what, if Marty can 'FIX' Sanchez we will have a pretty good 1-2 QB tandem for years to come. A lot of people are calling Sanchez shit, did he become shit or was he shit when we drafted him? We all know the answers to those questions and I actually think the Jets have done good by him by allowing him to have at least one more season to prove himself, but its the Jets that have made him into what he is today. I'm not exonerating Sanchez for blame either btw. If we can get a decent offense assembled with decent weapons, I'm hoping we see the Sanchez of old. But going to happen until the pressure is off him and by that I mean being the starter, being the NY Media's punchbag and yes even us fans. We drafted a good QB that seemed to develop poor ball security, HOW difficult can it be to fix this? I believe that MS will be with us the entire season and if he doesn't start , will at some point and hopefully get back to his old self, but that's a mighty big hurdle right now.
Personally, I think we will be getting the guy we saw in the Rose Bowl. Theres a reason the offense has been a problem through a myriad of QBs.
Sanchez had a lot of the same issues he has had in the pros at USC. He had 35 passes deflected or tipped at the line in 2008 in 13 games as an example. I'm thinking that the ball security issues Sanchez has experienced with the Jets are basically a product of him never having developed good ball security techniques in the first place. I don't think he developed poor ball security after joining the Jets I think he never had good ball security to start with. That would explain the real problems his first year and then the redoubling of the issue as the talent on the line dropped away and put him under more pressure the last two.
 The SF D allowed 24 points in the first half. The SF O had 5 drives in the 1st half and scored 14 points to cut it to a 10 point lead at halftime. The SF defense stopped Atlanta with 11:59 left in the 4th quarter. The SF O took the lead in the game with 8:27 left. Our D allowed 17 points in the first half and shut the Steelers out in the 2nd half and even scored a safety. Our O had 5 drives in the 1st half and scored 3 points while giving the D 7. That is a negative 4 points scored. It isn't the D's fault that the O didn't score more in the 1st half like SF's did. It isn't the D's fault that the O had a drive that consumed the majority of the 4th quarter that ended with 0 points. That is the difference between SF's O and ours. Our O could only cut it to a 1 score game with 2:56 left in the game. Big difference! 2:56 left in the game is not a lot of time for the D to get a stop when you still need a TD to win it.
Silly question since 2006-2009 were listed in the post. But I'll relist it for your reading pleasure. 2008 they were #10 in the league at 19.21% In 2007 #9 in the league at 19.30% in 2006 #15 in the league at 22.73% (note this is the year Kellen played 1/2 the season and put up numbers similar to Sanchez's 2009 numbers) Note that even the season that Kellen QB'd half the games or so the 3 and out percentage were still better than Sanchez's best.
every game is different, SF faced a more potent O in a dome. We faced a good O on a torn up field in the freezing cold. Conditions not great for huge offensive outputs. ONCE AGAIN, the bottom line is this: we pulled w/in 5 w/ 3 mins and 3 TOs, the D allowed Pitt to run out the clock. SF's D didn't allow Atlanta to run out the clock. Thet stunk in the first half but they gave their O a chance to win, our O never had a chance to win against a better D in much tougher conditions for offenses.
Clearly kellen Clemens was better than Sanchez, so was Brooks Bollinger. We were just so loaded any QB could have guided the Jets to title games.:breakdance:
We've covered this before Junc, football 101. Statistically speaking the defense recovers about 60% of all fumbles, Sanchez got very very lucky on the number of fumbles that were recovered by the offense. so yes, fumbling is always bad, the fact that won the coin flip 9 times out of 10, or was that season 8 times out of 9?, has nothing to do with skill or talent, just he got blind lucky. And here's the kicker JUNC old boy, even when you factor that uncanny luck in to the equation he still ranks #2 over the past 4 years in total turnovers. And there goes Junc again, trying to blame the defense for being inept when the whole reason the Jets were down in a hole was the offense couldn't do jack shit until the Pittsburgh defense went in to a prevent defense in the second half. The fact remains, the Jets defense gave up 17 points, That's a game that if your QB and offense are even half assed they should win.
