    http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/9...gh-testing-begin-immediately-according-report

The NFL submitted a new proposal on testing for human growth hormone to the players union on April 24, according to an NFL.com report.

NFL.com, citing league and union sources, reports the latest proposal removed the prospect of game-day testing, but called for testing to start immediately.

Under those conditions, samples would be taken and results would be stored until a baseline standard for testing is reached by the World Anti-Doping Agency, according to the report.

A union source told NFL.com that the union would prefer to delay taking samples until a baseline is established first.

According to the report, the NFLPA passed the details of the latest proposal to player reps this week and is working on a counter proposal that may be submitted next week.

The NFL has not received feedback from the union yet on the proposal, a league source told NFL.com.

i dont think the union will have any part of this, and i am very confident the nfl leadership really doesnt want to go down this road before absolutely necessary but is counting on the players association to help them look good.

i honestly think they should be tested constantly, game days too. they should be given random blood tests and the samples should be saved so that when new tests come out they can test the old samples.

they also need to stop testing for stuff that doesnt really matter, i honestly dont care if a guy is smoking weed. and as goodson has recently proven the nfl drug testing procedure is not stopping anyone from smoking.

this should also be implemented for the rest of the major sports as well. i am very confident the nba is as rampant with ped use as the nfl and mlb have proven to be.

and in my recent reading about hgh and its effects on the body i am a bit horrified by what will become of not just professionals but every level of sports down to high school kids in the next 20 years.

This battle is being lost on a lot of different fronts right now. Every time a meaningful barrier is imposed the flow goes a different direction and defeats the purpose of the barriers.

In the long run we're going to have genetic manipulation issues to deal with also.

We need to figure this out at a root level pretty soon or we're going to have parents engineering gladiators for professional competition with very short lifespans as the likely cost.

Ugh...this is what I have been afraid of too. Not to go too far off topic but I find it absurd that we don't allow stem cells to be used for people who could benefit from them but we are okay with the genetic engineering you speak of. I realize that the issues are somewhat different but people who are opposed to us "playing god" should be vehemently opposed to that as well.

further proof the nfl substance abuse policy is a farse. he failed not 1 but 2 drug tests for the court. he managed to pass everything the nfl probably didnt throw his way.

Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Josh Brent failed a second drug test and was sent back to jail on Thursday, according to the Dallas County District Attorney's office.

A Dallas County judge held Brent's bond "insufficient," the DA said. The DA had filed a motion on Tuesday asking a judge to revoke Brent's bond because it was revealed he failed a drug test taken on June 19.

Brent was out on bail after being charged with intoxication manslaughter resulting in the death last year of best friend and teammate, Jerry Brown.

Brent is still on the Cowboys' 90-man roster.

Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said the team would have no comment and Brent's agent, Peter Schaffer, said he's aware of everything involving the case, but wouldn't comment further.

According to court records, Brent has tested positive for marijuana twice.

Brent had a bond hearing scheduled for July 19 when the Dallas DA said he failed a drug test in late May. Brent has his trial for the intoxication manslaughter charge scheduled for Sept. 23.

Brent's attorneys have held preliminary discussions about a plea deal. Brent is subject to the NFL's personal conduct policy, which could lead him to a suspension or fine. League officials were awaiting for Brent's legal situation to be completed before rendering a decision on his future.

    Why does anyone care? Really?

Sports..,is entertainment. Like movies. Like it or not.

Go back, and watch American History X, or Troy.

    Or Rocky.

Actors do roids all the time. BFD.

Athletes? You believe there is some mythical 'purity' of competition? Not since Lake Placid ladies.

Dude,, i enjoy a good argument.
But this is why its hard to lend you credence.

There are many sources of stemcells. Like umbilical cord.

The stem cell argument was not about health, it was about destroying what some might call human life. ( sort of the philosophical point being made in The Matrix), and even then...it was about subsidizing such destruction with tax dollars.

A far more attenuated argument, then the one you seem to be grasping.

You're right. Why should we care if professional athletes use PEDs to the point where you can't possibly succeed in the sport without them? It's not like that'd result in kids in middle school, high school, and college wrecking their bodies with that crap in hopes of making it to professional ball despite the fact that they probably won't make it anyway, right?

    /sarcasm

i am glad you dont care, i do though.

when i see a guy fail not 1 but 2 drug tests it worries me that the nfls testing policy is all show and no go. i am sure of it, this type of stuff just strengthens my view.
