This thread almost made me want to necro my own thread of the past. (remember the good, old promised/delivered thread?)

It's unfortunate but Schotty is gonna look like OC of the year with Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey... Sigh... When is this guy gonna go away......

Haha..I wouldn't count on that, in fact the storylines will probably be how he screwed up the manna from heaven that fell in his lap.

He certainly didn't look that way with Braylon and Holmes. Nor did he look like one with Pennington/Coles/Cotchery. But it will all change now somehow, right?

he did a good job for us and he will do a good job in SL. I think SL is going to be a playoff contender this year.

He did have one great season when he had Favre. Pennington was good but was a shell of his former self. Players make coaches not the other way around.

Umm...that was because the shitty schotty offense was changed to accomodate Favre. They actually simplified or removed all his BS pre-snap movement.

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...that-hes-the-best-new-york-jets-oc-since-1998

"By forcing Schottenheimer's hand to change his pedestrian offensive system during the one year he was there, the Jets offense scored the most points than they had since 1998! The Jets scored 406 total points and averaged over 25.3 points/game with a QB that barely knew the offense and was playing with an injured shoulder for the last several games of the season."

mea culpa on the bleacherreport.com reference, it was all i could find.

Braylon and Holmes don't run 4.3/4.2 neither do Coles/Cotch... These dudes are serious threats... We have had nothing like them before.. Closest thing to that kind of speed I guess you can say Santana Moss... Maybe...

Schotty will figure out a way to get the least out of them.

Like 40 times make a WR. Why don't these NFL gurus draft sprinters for WRs?

(Say what you will - two seasoned veterans with ample success always beat out two rooks any day of the week.)

Yet Schotty gets the blame for Favre having a "bad season". Even if certain things were changed Schotty still was calling plays with Favre having the ability to audible depending on what the defense was doing.

Schotty can change as an OC. His tenure with the jets was average and frustratingly inconsistent.

    Brian Schottenheimer:

    QB's - 5
    Pts Rank - 18, 25, 9, 17, 13, 13, 25
    Yds Rank - 25, 26, 16, 20, 11, 25, 23
    Turnovers - 15, 12, 30, 20, 9, 29, 10

There's nothing in the numbers above that suggest that Schotty is an NFL caliber OC. He's been doing this for 7 years now and not one of his offenses has stood out, the closest being the one where the QB forced a change in the system.

here we go again w/ posting stats w/o context.

2006: has Chad for 16 games fresh off of TWO rotator cuff surgeries w/ Kevan Barlow as his feature back.
2007: Chad gets hurt AGAIN, Clemens starts most games
2008: gets Favre w/ a month before the season and Favre was more interested in preparing Packer opponents to play GB than studying his playbook here.
2009: rookie Mark Sanchez and even w/ that lead NFL in rushing
    2010: mark plays really well
2011: Get Plax fresh out of jail, 3 of top 4 weapons are out of football after this season.
2012: has to rebuild Sam Bradford and did a pretty nice job.

He's been a good OC in this league for a while, you have to look at the circumstances instead of black and white rankings. if not then you have to give him a ton of credit as our O went from:

    13th in pts in 2011 to 28th in 2012
25th in ys to 30th in yds

Sanchez went from 26 TDs and 18 INTs to 13 TDs and 18 INTs

so which way will it be?

It'll be when Schotty shows me a good offense that he hasn't had ripped out of his hands and reconfigured I'll believe he might be a good OC.

OC is a funny position. You get no credit when things go well but a lot of blame when they go poorly. This makes the best OC's kind of invisible (like Marty M in Philly who was arguably the best OC in the NFL over the last 6 seasons.)

When you get a guy like Schotty who is taking a huge amount of flack year over year the odds are pretty good he's not a good OC, because like I said the good OC's are invisible. The bad ones get talked about a lot.

Well, obviously, since we got to the SB with him as OC.
