I can't believe anyone is still talking about this. This has happened about a million times before in baseball history - a player shows up the other team, next time up they get hit in the arm or the butt. It has nothing to do with team unity or defending a teammate. The supposed "uproar" is nothing more than social media nonsense.
Gee sucks. Next season the Mets are going to need two starting pitchers, a whole new bullpen, at least two outfielders, and possibly a new 1b, 2b, and SS. The only players that will 100 percent be on the team next season: David Wright Matt Harvey Zack Wheeler Jon Niese Bobby Parnell Travis D'arnaud
Jesus what happened......Nice to see that Collins persists with not giving the young guys a chance, Ike cannot bat any runners in , bullpen sucks ...this has a disastrous season written all over it. Collins won't see the season out in my view..
If the team continues like this and is 20 games under .500 by the 4th of July I think he'll be gone and Backman will take his place (if not during the season then there will be an interim manager and Backman will be named manager in October).
Exactly, we must be old school guys because that's how it works. You show up a pitcher and you get plunked. Deal with it. It's a good thing a guy like Bob Gibson isn't playing anymore...there'd be a lot of hurt feelings if he was. Wheeler is going to miss his next start with some sort of clavicle injury but he's been pretty nasty in his last 3. 3 earned runs in about 22 innings pitched. I better get out to see him pitch before he gets that call.
Ike Davis still striking out at a ridiculous rate. I can't believe the Mets picked up Ankiel. The AAAstros released him! That should be the end of your MLB career. Things are done a little differently than they were back then. I'd imagine Gibson would be getting suspended if he didn't change his approach. The Valdespin thing is overblown.
Ike Davis misses an easy pick Cubs scorer gives Soriano a hit when he was going to be out by a mile. And they charged the error to Tejada (for a one hop throw, even though it was an easy play) Awful scoring.
I am starting to really think Davis needs a new team.... Just promote lutz and get this strike out machine off our team
The team could use one or two MLB outfielders then Ankiel and Davis could be demoted or released and Duda could play first. Byrd should be playing every day, IMO
Ike Davis in the first: strikes out on four pitches, then muffs an easy pick. 2 runs score on the play (1 run was being conceded, the second was Ike's fault). Ike comes up for the second time in the 4th. Wright on first, no outs. What does he do? You guessed it! Double play. Meanwhile, everyone else in the inning... Mets 4th Edwin Jackson pitching: Daniel Murphy : Ball, Murphy homered to left. David Wright : Ball, Wright singled to center. Ike Davis : Strike swinging, Foul, Davis grounded into double play second to shortstop to first, Wright out at second. Lucas Duda : Strike looking, Duda singled to deep center. and in the bottom of the 4th, he muffed a routine grounder. He was able to record the out anyway. Ike belongs in Houston or Miami.
Daniel Murphy last two seasons at Citi Field, 350 AB: 3 homers last two seasons at Wrigley Field, 11 AB: 3 homers His BA is also .398 this season on the road, around .200 at home.
Matt Harvey RBI single! he hit the ball well on a line in his first AB as well, but it was caught in the outfield
Byrd at least temporarily prevents the bullpen from blowing Harvey's lead by throwing the tying run out at the plate.
Bullpen shockingly doesn't blow it in the 8th. Presumably they're looking to Parnell to blow it in the 9th?
