Stevie Wonder could see those 2 wide open checkdowns which could have resulted in a manageable 3rd down at the very least instead of executing the "good punt" on 2nd down.

If you look closely it's obvious by the way the O-line creates a passing lane that the pass was supposed to go to Sanchez's right, either to the RB in the flat or long down the field to Hill.

Sanchez took too long to find Hill, threw in that weak and obvious pump fake before going to those recievers. By that time the defense caught up and he made a terrible decision to lob it to Hill. It's as if he had it in his mind that's what he was going to do before the play happened and didn't take into account what was actually happening on the field.

A better QB looks left, but upon seeing Hill break open, quickly hits him with the long pass. An average QB looks left, then steps up to his right and hits the RB in the flat for a nice 10 yard gainer with all that green- moves the chains. A bad QB does what Sanchez does.

This is just one play but it's a great example of why Sanchez isn't any good and why those excuses that get thrown around are ridiculous. He might not have had the best recievers last season, but he also leaves A LOT of good opportunities on the field - go by way side because he can't / won't find them. It didn't matter in that play who his recievers were, they could've been Jerry Rice and Roger Craig in their primes and Sanchez would've thrown that INT because he didn't recognize the situation and instead of being able to adapt to the coverages, he had it in his mind, pre-snap, what he was going to do no matter what.

And you can't play QB like that. Maybe at USC when you are playing Sacramento St or some slap dick team you can get by playing like that just on sheer disparities in talent, but in the NFL you have to be able to recognize coverages and not be dead set on exactly what you are going to do no matter what the situation dictates.

    fantasy stats?

Hes woefully inconsistent and subpar compared to other Qb's is what those and other numbers prove.

You're making the same argument Tebow fans made, his stats weren't great but he won clutch a few times so thats all that matters right?

Well yes, winning is the goal, but when you're in an uphill battle against the skill set of your QB and you have to compensate constantly for that it lowers your chances of doing so, even if its worked in the past.

So this is where the two sides reach an impasse. The fact that he was able to win in the past supersedes the fact his play isn't nearly good enough to continue with after the fact.

hes won a couple in the clutch so damn all those stats where he's the pits and the obvious dip in quality. blame it on everybody and everything else even though, while outside factors have a role to play obviously, its mostly on him.

QB's that are good not only have the ability to make their team better, but in addition to being able to bring your team to the next level years ago they still carry that ability with them PRESENTLY.

Sanchez has been nothing but mediocre his whole career despite glimpses of brilliance. He's not a good QB despite his success, a hard concept to understand but thats what happens when others carry you and you scrounge by, you'll look better next to them.

I don't want a QB that has to have the stars align to be even serviceable. I don't want a QB with lacking reliability.

We can do better, he should be doing better is what those fantasy stats say. Winning matters more than anything yes. But he's proving his ability to do so is less than what it should be, thus the strong argument against him being starter.

Its kind of exactly like Tebow fans really...

there was nothing easy about it, even if he came back to Hill a little quicker he had 2 defenders around him. It would have taken a great throw. He did a bad job but again not all TOs are the same, that one turned out to be one that did no damage to us and may have helped us.

Maybe it is and he did a bad job, we don't know that w/o knowing the playbook. We know it was a poor throw but that's really all we can evaluate from the play.

I am not defending his poor play, he was awful most of last year. That was a bad play BUT again it turned out not to hurt us and he was HUGE for us bringing us back on the road to give us a late lead but the anti-Sanchez crowd harps on one meaningless play.

Only an average fan would call a play that took points off the board in a game that went to OT, "meaningless". Holy shit.

how did it take pts off the board? we weren't at the NE 20, we were at the 36, how do you you know we don't lose yds on 3rd down? how do you know we don't turn it over? how do you know we don't miss a long FG? I realize you have a crystal ball and no everything that will happen in the future but for once can you post rational thoughts please?

The ball floats like a butterfly, and the result stings like a bee

I used to defend Sanchez before, but he really has proved many right. To me, he is just a Rex Grossman. A guy who benefited from a great group around him.

the bears had a legit top D and played in a much weaker div and conf, they had to beat a 10-6 #2 seed to reach a SB and his only postseason wins came at home.

As a sometimes-Sanchez defender, I have to agree with your post.

My great fear has always been that he goes to a QB-guru coach like a Harbaugh and his QB rating jumps 20 points overnight.

You're fighting a losing battle on here. If you ask any GM, they most likely say that Sanchez is not a good quarterback. Same goes for analysts and players. But you'll probably say they're 'average fans' as well.

I know right? dumbass fans displaying displeasure at the concept of a weak QB.

hes won before, so thats enough reason to keep him around, no matter how he plays and how that relates to winning more.

You would think so but I will say you are wrong. Next time you get a chance to talk to a GM or anyone connected w/ the NFL you let me know what they say.

I doubt that, in a competitive league no GM would go on record saying that, it's against their personal interest.

The Jets GM however would never have used a 2nd round pick if they felt Sanchez was a good NFL QB especially since they have him under a long term deal at their option at this point. The Jets didn't use a second to grab a quality No. 2 development QB on a team full of needs. This was a pick that screamed no confidence in Mark Sanchez by the Jets staff.

It was a pick that screamed New GM. I wouldn't read into anything other than that. If it was up to Rex and the staff I am sure they would have wanted to plug other holes rather than take a developmental QB. Idzik wants to put his stamp on the team, the best way to do that is w/ picking his own QB and by doing so in rd 2 it gives him flexibility to draft a QB next year in a better QB draft if Smith isn't progressing as well as they think he should be.

This is the argument of someone who's desperate and reaching for straws....
Really a Turnover in the Opponents territory is a good thing? In field goal range, albeit long range, and your argument is the team may have lost yardage on the next snap?

Defending a poor decision to throw downfield, late, instead of realizing he'd waited too long and then go to a check down receiver.

4 years in to his career and Sanchez still hasn't figured out that double and triple pump fakes JUST don't work in the NFL....

    Weak argument.

You didn't explain anything. As usual you made a bunch of assertions trying to defend Sanchez that are not correct. You assume we attempt and miss a long FG when we had the ball at the NE 36 on 2nd and 8. You are not only throwing away 2nd down, but you are throwing away 3rd down as well and calling it a good punt. :rofl2:

I posted the percentages of 3rd down conversions to show you how wrong you are. Throwing away 2nd and 3rd down, saying we had horrible odds of converting a 3rd down is crap.

Yes, I want Sanchez to throw a 2 yard pass to Greene who was wide open for an easy first down instead of making a good punt.

Our defense stopped the Patriots offense on 4 out of 5 drives in the first half. Logic doesn't point to us being forced to attempt a long FG, miss the FG and then allow NE to score.

The crew attacking "Us"? Is Mark with you now? Or are you referring to Hobbes? Please don't take offense. There is no shame in being a blind homer / SuperFan.
