Will the media-hype be as big on Geno as Sanchez/Tebow?

Sports news feeds off the NYJ...But I just dont see it I think here...I dont think Geno is the type to end up on the TMZ site or have constant jokes made about him on tv shows or ESPN.

I just hope we got a guy who keeps it real out there.

no, he is a 2nd round pick who had a good but not very noteworthy college career. he hasn't won anything or received any major awards. he doesnt have a cult following. locally,he will be a big story,as they try to pin the entire jets draft on his success and the qb competition gets under way.but nationally things will die down as more interesting story lines pop up

It already is if you haven't watched. They are expecting Geno smith to be starting game 1. By picking a QB in the beginning of the second round is still first round talent and media doesn't care when it comes to this. They are pushing already. Geno will start week one BANK ON IT.

He has already adopted the wrong Jets way by predicting playoffs before you ever even played a snap. Media loves stuff like that and Geno is not a guy who keeps his mouth shut.

It will only be high as long as both Sanchez and Smith are both here, and it will be very high until one of them is gone.

If Geno Smith becomes heavily hyped nationally you and I and everybody else are going to be very happy about it. The Jets are going to be winning some games in that situation.

I would like to think the Jets learned a hard lesson about hyping players in the media. If anything, so far Idzik has done a remarkable job staying under the radar until the last possible moment. I would imagine Rex has already been told to keep his fat mouth shut until given clearance to open it. The very last thing Ryan needs is more controversy attributed to him in any form or fashion.

Sanchez already knows that the media is waiting for him to fail so although not blessed with a lot of media savvy, he knows his best chance for redemption is to let his play speak for itself and keep his distance. Geno is new and doesn't realize he's feeding the sharks with his predictions and such but I have a feeling there will be sitdown session with him as to how to handle the TriState media.

All in all, I don't see anything resembling the circus this year. If it does rear its ugly head again, Idzik will take heads instead of names.

Hey, Rex isn't fat anymore, haha. Other than that, I generally agree with you. I have no problem with athletes being confident about winning. Better than for him to say 'DOWN FOR THE CLOWN, TANK FOR TED!!!

Please tell me you are joking. This kid has taken a fucking brutal beating in the media (not to mention from the fan base) and has said nothing but perfect quotes and high road lines as to take the heat,. and never deflects blame.

Either your hatred for his play has permeated your personal feelings for th ekid or your prism is crooked.

Its one thing want him cut cause he can't play but to blindly say he has no media savvy after everything he's been through, is just ignorant.

This sums it up. Tebow was news because of a cult following. Sanchez vs Geno is only news to jet fans.

Idzik changed the culture of the team already. Has anyone heard a peep from Rex since February? Manish is mad, Cimini is philosophical... they're not getting ANYTHING out of this team. Sanchez was the face of the Jets and Rex enjoyed the attention he got him and the team. Clearly Idzik is of a different breed. I'm sure Geno has already sat down with his appointed handlers and been given a laundry list of do's and don'ts... mostly don'ts.

Rex already ruined it by saying Sanchez will be taking the first snaps. Instead he could have been real and said it is a competition.

He said the first snaps of Training Camp. That doesn't mean Sanchez is starting.

Call me crazy, but I see Idzik as the real jewel and superstar of the 2013 season for the Jets already and is evidenced by his actions and media control.
Given that he has to deal with an owner who was instrumental in bring the circus atmosphere to the team and a coach that albeit very knowleadgeable about the X and O of the game has the propensity to stick his foot in his mouth to the detriment of the organization as a hole, the GM is navigating this rebuild process with a savvy and profesional style.
It took no time to establish who is in charge, and those who argued RR was pulling the strings can now be laid to rest. RR has been introspect and quiet, knowing that he is no longer under the NJ lighs, but under Idziks microscope.
To me, Idzik is to GMs what BB is to coaching. Say little, let your actions speak on the field, no one coach/player is above the team, only the best 52 will be dressed to play football.
I might be wrong, but Izik might be the best thing that has happened to the jets in a long long time, forever cutting the cord to the legacy left behind by Parcels guys.

Perhaps I need to be clearer. SINCE IDZIK HAS TAKEN CONTROL, Sanchez has been quiet. One comment about the Tebow acquisition I believe has been all. Sanchez knows the media is out to get him and is keeping his distance as he should. His play will either keep him on the team or not. His play will speak for itself. Same for the most part with Ryan.

Nowhere in the post was the word "cut" used. Perhaps YOU should re-examine your loyalty to Sanchez instead of reading things that were never posted. Anything else would be ignorant. Blind loyalty isn't a trait to be admired. And I thought the Tebots were bad.. Sheesh..

and what he said about a month ago is there is going to be a competition, mark understands that and when he hits the practice field the only thing he is guarenteed is the first snap.somebody has to take it and it might as well be mark,he has earned that much inthe last 4 years.
but its ok for you to misconstrue that to mean mark is the starter as long as it fits your agenda

We've killed Sanchez on this board. Every one of us - myself included - even though I would rather see him succeed for the health of the franchise if nothing else. Calling me a blind loyalist is far from the truth, and my post history will prove that.

I said cut when you didn't, but the intention for that to play out is still there...at least by a majority of the fan base.

Sanchez has always been quiet, never following in Rex's boisterous steps, always taking a back seat and absorbing blame. The media and the fans keep piling on....to the point where its counter productive. He's been booed at home, away, and at Knicks games. There's a point where you have to feel bad for the kid taking shit constantly. He's obviously not a great QB but its partially the FO's fault.

That was the exact stance Kyle Orton tried in Denver a couple years back, and stated he was doing so. He failed miserably in the end with his statistically worst 5 game start in his 7 year career. Sanchez appears to be just as fragile if last year was any indication.

Chances are, Sanchez is done already, but the best thing the Jets can do here is to somehow keep the media in check. Much of that will have to come through Geno. Broncos didn't do that with Tebow, and they regretted it. It hurt Orton's productivity, caused more of a stir with a QB controversy, and nearly destroyed the season with a 1-4 start. There were other factors that went wrong, but this was a major part of it.

Last thing the Jets need is them helping create a QB controversy BEFORE one actually exists. Seems to be a favorite if the media these days when someone drafts a "young stud."
