So let's say that situation did unfold, do you not think Smith's familiarity with his 2 starting receiver's would have nurtured and expedited his growth as an NFL starting QB?
It could have done that. I was not opposed to the Jets taking Austin at 9 and then deciding to get Geno at 13. I would have completely understood the attempt to revive a moribund offense by bringing in a new OC and giving him some play makers who were familiar with each other right off the bat. I'm glad the draft played out the way it did because we got Smith anyway alongside two better talents. Austin was not going to be the reason Smith worked out or not and if he was then that said more about Smith than Austin.
This post is laughable! Please elaborate, do you have inside information that the Jets where going to draft Tavon Austin at #9? They got schooled because the Rams moved up and give away some of their draft picks to select a WR that's unproven in the NFL? LOL, do you know it takes at least four years to grade a draft? Unbelievable...
I find it very hard to believe that the original poster would have liked Tayvon Austin had the Jets selected him. For that matter I don't really see him liking ANY draft pick.
You took the words out of my mouth. I never wanted this guy and I'm so glad we didn't get him. MUCH happier with Milliner and Richardson. We already drafted this guy 12 years ago ... His name was Santana Moss ... Except Moss was probably 12-15 pounds bigger than Austin. I have no problem going to war with a healthy Santonio Holmes, complemented by Hill, Braylon and Kerley. That receiving core should be no issue as long as we have a serviceable QB. If Hill doesn't take a big step forward in 2013, than let's look at a receiver next year. A BIG, PHYSICAL guy. In fact, even if Hill does progress, we should go WR next year.
Austin is going to be special don't know why you guys go through such extents as to say he won't be to make yourself feel better.
Rams had a great draft...We need to do the same next year for Geno. Marqise Lee, trust me we need him bad
If a team lets everyone know that they love a player than 9 times out of 10 it means that they actually have no intention of taking that player - its what is known as a smokescreen - no-one here has any clue whether or not we liked Austin enough to draft him at #9.
Wait until one of the big time NFL safeties puts a hit on the smurf running out of the slot before you worry about what Idzik did or didn't do.
I'm actually shocked that Big Boy Bobby Jensen made more than one post in this thread. His normal MO is to make an OP and then sit back and count the replies. You're losing your touch, Bobby.
Agreed. I think the Jets might have telegraphed their interest on purpose. Every player taken before they pick that they have no interest in taking potentially pushes down another player who might not have been there for the Jets pick (see Milliner)
Name for me all the big-time NFL receivers in the past 15 years who were shorter than 5'10" and less than 190 lbs. This guy is 5' 9" and 175 lbs. soaking wet. IMO he'll be "Devin Hester" special ... always a threat to break a long one, but not an incredibly productive down after down WR. I'll pass and wait for an AJ Green / Brandon Marshall / Braylon Edwards type to become available.
LOL, i thought the same thing. I was actually shocked when he responded to my first post, but he turned his tail and hid just like in the past. Drop a thread and run along.
