And like I already said I'm sure there were more "explosive" pass rushers on the board when the Seahawks took Irvin last year. Experts are not the be all end all. They are experts by name, certainly not trade.

I posted that because people keep referencing Mayock listing Richardson as the "number 7 talent" in the draft, not because Mayock's opinion is the end all be all.

Frankly, I would have been fine with Floyd, Lotulelei or Richardson, if we had to go to DT. And this is why we should have traded down.

In a way I hope we suck so bad this year and go 1-15. Although with Rex coaching this team, I don't see that happening. Then we'll have our franchise QB. The rest of this draft should be spent drafting offensive players and maybe a safety. Hopefully some of them can stick.

I don't disagree that I would have rather traded down, but I don't think it's fair to say "we should have" when we have no idea what offers were made and rejected.

The premise that the Jets need O and therefore drafting O will be of more real value, need rather than BPA is nonsense. Until we address the QB for the long term playmakers on O will not give us the bang for the buck they would with a solid QB. This team needs a guard and a TE unless your suggesting we cut Holmes and last years No. 2 isn't going to play this year? We picked up a nice WCO running back and It looks like we have a trade in place for another one? Grab a Guard and a TE something that can be accomplished in the next few rounds.

At the end of the day the position isn't the key when you have holes to fill on both sides of the roster.

Until we have the QB who can get the ball in the hands of playmakers, playmakers will underperform.

For what its worth, the other 2 players on the Jets board was Austin and Warmack, per Cimini.

You sound like you're in denial about addressing the biggest needs on this team. The biggest needs are Offense. Your whole argument about rebuilding or it being a one year process aren't being argued. Yet that's not the point.

Not sure what understanding rebuilding has to do with picking Richardson at 13. Actually it has everything to do with picking the right guy there. Furthermore since you bring up rebuilding, then do it the right way. Trade down and get more picks for the 13. Richardson was not a need pick. Our DL is not an area of need It's a luxury pick for Rex.

We can only hope they make good picks today and tomorrow but we'll see.

Why isn't it fair? You have to adjust to how the draft is playing out. They could have known with confidence that they would get one of the big 3. And if the trade doesn't happen you pick someone else. Otherwise you are wasting the value of the pick. Richardson was not going to be picked in the top 20. And that was obvious by the time the 13th pick was up because Floyd and Lotulolei were still available. It's not that hard to figure out. The DT talent dropped this year and we jumped in too early.

Sure, but it's not "neglecting the obvious" when a team that everyone has pegged as a multi-year rebuild focuses on acquiring talent rather than addressing specific needs.

no, that is the point. how does drafting a player at a position of need that you don't think is good enough to address that need actually addressing the need?

that's the point. just because the Jets are deficient on offense doesn't mean they should draft whatever offensive player is available in the first round and bypass a player that they believe improves the team more in the long term. the Jets are not drafting to solve all of the problems in one year. and if the players drafted in the first round improve the team for the next 5-7 years, there will be ample opportunity in those years to also address the offense (later rounds of this draft, players that are cut, next year in free agency, next years draft).

the only reason to whine and panic about not fixing the offensive holes in the first round of one draft is if you are only looking at the short term. Fortunately Idzik is not.

The point is just soaring over your head right now. The rebuild process is LONG. You don't rebuild your entire team with the 9th and 13th pick in a weak draft class. How many skill position players were taken? FOUR! FOUR offensive skill position players out of 32. What does that tell you? There was NO elite offensive talent in this draft.

Do you think drafting Warmack at 9 and Eifert at 13 would have done this team ANY better? No, it would have filled two holes but still left one GLARING one at CB. Again no one should have to justify the Milliner pick so I'm not going to, if you can't see why that was a good move then you should give up on follow football.

So what, we could have filled two holes with mediocre guys instead of filling one hole with the best guy at his position and adding a potential starter on an already young, up and coming defensive line. WE HAVE 6 MORE ROUNDS TO GO! Jesus, this is why you can't rebuild in New York. The most fickle fans in sports.

Why would you pick someone else if this guy is in the top 4 on your draft board? And to answer the other guy's post as well, it's not fair to say "we should have traded" because you don't know if we even COULD have traded. How do you know people were knocking down the doors with amazing offers for the 13th pick?

You don't know, that's all I'm saying. If no good offer was made, if there was even an offer made, you go with your guys. Richardson was their guy. I'm gonna give Idzik the benefit of the doubt, as should everyone else considering what he was a part of in Seattle.

the richardson pick was a good pick. it reminded me of when the giants kept picking dlinemen even though it was their strength. if we have a dominate front line and secondary the lbs will be ok. there is nothing wrong with building your strengths if the board dictates it.
the other thing no one is talking about is idzick took the clock down to the limit both picks. so he was obviously trying to trade out but couldnt get a deal he liked.
i commend him for staying true to his board and not sacrificing value or reaching for needs.

Your words, not mine. You're saying that you don't think Eifert is good enough to draft at 13. I disagree with that completely. I think Eifert would've filled that need very nicely and had a long successful career here. Eifert went 8 picks later to Cincy and most are saying that they got a steal there. So not only do I think he fills the need, he also would have been one of our best offensive weapons immediately.

Need filled with Best tight end available. That's what the Jets passed on.

It was a reach pick. That's all I'm saying. Considering we traded out franchise player and one of the best defenders in the NFL for this pick you'd think you'd want to get as much juice out of it as possible.

I disagree completely. Austin was an elite offensive talent. Eifert was too. So you're saying Eifert is mediocre and Richardson is up and coming? Makes no sense unless you have evidence to support this claim or it's just your opinion.

actually, those words are just my interpretation of how the Jets felt about those players since they passed on them. I don't know whether any of the players drafted at all by any team will be any good, so I am not foolish enough to pass judgement on them at all before they ever play a single down in the NFL.

time will tell whether the Jets drafted poorly or not.

Austin wasn't an option, so that's kind of irrelevant. I don't think any tight end is ELITE without a QB that can throw to him. You want to start building your offense around a fucking tight end with Mark Sanchez or David Garrard throwing to him? Come on. That's just dumb. It will be a wasted year because the kid won't even be able to develop. Three years from now if we are running an efficient west coast offense, I'll wish we had him. But if Richardson is producing, I won't think twice about it.

I didn't say Richardson is up and coming, I said Wilk and Coples are. And I said Richardson could potentially be a starter to pair with them. His versatility will only make them better too.

    Idzik the rookie got played..

They made it too obvious they wanted Austin and they got burned because of it. Learning experience for the new GM, although Rex's FAT mouth probably didn't help any with his talking to Austin the night before like he was already on the team.

Now he's just trying to save face with those comments.. if they actually had Sheldon Richardson among their top 4 players in the draft than that's scarier than the actual drafting of him.

Austin could not have been that irrelevant since he was apparently no. 1 on Idzik's board so we would have drafted him at 9 had he been there.

Richardson did most of his damage from the edge, not from the gap. So with Wilk and Coples, it will take more time to see if he can compliment them.
