What else could he say? When asked during the presser "how many offensive players did you have in your top 4?" he responded sheepishly "we had a number of offensive players in our top 4 ; we piced 2 of the top 4". Then he, Rex, Bradway and Bauer all started laughing as if it was a blatant lie. Check it out; it's at the 9 min mark:

No, trading up would have taken picks out of the rebuild process. Who exactly would possibly have been worth giving up a couple of extra picks to get?

When I heard the Jets were doing their press conference while the 1st round was still on I realized the days of cherry-picking for a living are over. Nice feeling there.

I'll bet he meant he picked 2 of the top 4 LEFT on their board. ;)

The best players available always seem to be players that plays positions that we don't need. For once can the "BPA" be a player that also fills a need.

    Richardson replaces Devito and Pouha.
    Milliner replaces Revis.

    We need them too

2 of the top 4 players on our board? Really? Really?

Fischer and Joeckel should have been the first two picks on everyone's board (or at the very least 2 of the top 3). Lane Johnson should be top 4 as well (he did go at # 4 afterall). This was the best OL draft in the history of the NFL. Even Kyle Long was gone by pick # 20.

maybe it was obvious that there is no one they would trade up for.

    Kyle Long was a reach.

They could have been working the phones, trying to see who wanted to stay put and who didn't. It's big business. You don't sleep on any opportunity.

The fact that they were giving the media head while the rest of the league was doing business really bothers me.

I thought Ellis was supposed to replace Pouha?

The combination of Cromartie and Wilson played well last season. Plus Trufant was solid as the slot guy. We could have drafted a cb and a d lineman in the 4th and 5th rounds to develop.

think the joke was that they thought they had Tavon Austin who was rated #2 on the board. and he got snatched at 8.

board maybe was Joeckel, Austin, Milliner, Richardson, Jordan, Mingo, Fisher,

It was a draft they felt was deep enough to get want they wanted in the second/third rounds. They finished thier two picks, saw there was no one else worth moving up for, and called it a night. Vikings gave up a lot to move back into 1st round. When Jets need multiple OL, LB and other spot help, what "opportunity" are you missing that you're willing to give up 3 guys for 1?

You seem to be suffering from anxiety over what could've been, about a pile of guys not worth it. Had they traded a 2, a 3 and a 5 to get Patterson or something, everyone would've bitched about already having Stephen Hill as a project WR.

Jets were only ever looking at moving down; there wasn't the value to move back up.

    Not me. Not one bit.

The fact that they were not even remotely thinking of a trade up back into round one is a good thing. This team needs depth everywhere, we cannot afford to lose picks.

There will be plenty of time to work the phones before the draft gets going again tomorrow night.

I just hope Barkley and Teo aren't #3 and #4 on this board.

DeVito and Pouha were rotation defensive lineman. You could find one of those in the sixth round. Revis was replaced by Wilson last year and he did just fine.
