@nyjets John Idzik on the Dee Milliner and Sheldon Richardson picks: “We selected two of the top four players on our board, period.” https://twitter.com/nyjets/status/327607612730404864 do you guys not believe him? seems like a great draft too me. ala 2006
If he was lying, he would have said he got the two players he wanted. At least that's what I would have said if I was lying.
I was very much hoping for those two guys but I knew it was a stretch since I didn't see us trading up with so many needs across the board. We took who we took, tomorrow we will see what happens then only time will tell.
I'm guessing the other 2 were Dion Jordan and Tavon Austin. Surprised they didn't have any OL in their top 5.
I believe they got players they couldn't say no too. I thought there was a real chance Carolina would trade up for Richardson. I was thinking that might push somebody like Milliner down to the Jets on the 9.
I mostly just browse the boards as opposed to posting, but the reaction from you a lot of you guys is beyond absurd. Milliner was the best defensive back in this draft, and we got him. If you haven't noticed, we did just trade Darrelle Revis... great value at number 9. I trust that they wouldn't have selected Dee if the injury concerns didn't check out. As far as Richardson, was I surprised by the pick? Yes, of course. But reading up on him, he is widely regarded as a top prospect, being number 7 on Mayock's board and highly regarded on many others. Watching highlights, the guy looks like a beast. People seem to forget we did just lose DeVito and Pouha this offseason, so to say Defensive Line was not a need is a little bit short sighted. Whose to say Kenrick Ellis is a viable option? And Antonio Garay is just a rotation player. We're picking BPA, and in the midst of a multi year rebuilding process. We can not and will not address all of our needs overnight. We have six teams picking ahead of us in the second round, with Zach Ertz still on the board. We pick him up, and you're looking at a very different draft. Obviously, we need to address the offense going forward, but for godsake, some of you people act like this shitty team reaching for need picks is somehow a viable option to rebuilding this putrid roster. At least give Idzik the entire draft before you kill the guy...if we can come out of the next two rounds with a TE like Ertz and perhaps a guard of safety, trade for Chris Ivory with our 5th round pick...I think we've managed to come out pretty successful. Take the gun out of your mouths, please.
I wanted Warmack or Cooper but oh well, I think the Jets did a good job. I like the picks a lot. I wanted Jarvis Jones at 13 but i'll trust the guys who get paid to make the picks. Richardson is going to be a nice piece to this team. It starts up front on both sides of the ball. The Jets D-Line is young and extremely versatile. They can do a lot with Richardson, he can play 4-3 DT, or can play the DE spot and they can have Coples standing up on some plays. I have no problem with this pick. Milliner is a nice solid, safe pick and was probably the best player available at the time. Him and Cro should form a great team on the outside going forward. I would have liked for the Jets to load up on offensive skill players but this isn't the draft to do that. I don't want them to just draft a WR or a RB just for the sake of doing it. Draft the best players that are available.
Why were Idzik, Rex and co. holding their press conference while the 1st round was still going on? Shouldn't they have been in the war room paying attention to the board, who gets taken, and maybe looking for opportunities to trade up depending on what unfolds?
