Like I said, look at the talent level he had around him. Given that, he played rather well. Lots of other qb's would have bombed completely in his situation.
Gruden had an interesting stat on Dysert. He took 159 sacks in 4 years at Miami (OH). Gruden pestered him a bit about that and couldn't really get a straight answer out of him. Then he showed a clip where the MLB comes on a slanting blitz just to the right of Dysert's field of vision, up the middle not blindside stuff. Dysert gets the ball and is backing up and turning to his left and BOOM down he goes. Gruden looks at him with that amused Chucky look and says 'what about that one?" Dysert kind of hunches over and says sheepishly "that was on me." Not a negative thing here BTW Gruden obviously likes him but he was working really hard to get him to admit that 159 sacks in 45 games is just too many to take.
Yeah, there's no way Dysert is standing up to that at the NFL level. That's 60 sacks a year. Gruden's QB Camp is great stuff. I'll go so far as to say that nobody has better peripheral media stuff going on than that right now. Every time I watch a segment I learn a little something about what it's about being a QB. People think he's going to go back into coaching and maybe they're right. I think he's going to be this generation's John Madden. Al Davis really knew talent when he saw it.
Wow that is some good stuff. It sure scares me about taking Dysert. That is very Sanchez like taking that many sacks. Dysert might be tough but the ability to extend plays and avoid sacks IMO is the best attribute a NFL QB can have.
So this question came up in a couple of different interviews with prospective QB's saying they were asked this: "You're in a bus on a long hill and the brakes go out and the bus is hurtling downhill. Where do you want to be sitting on that bus?" Both guys who were asked the question were like "that's a strange question?" The answer, of course, is "In the driver's seat."
That's what I'd say in every interview. In real life though, I'd be sitting in the back with my seat belts on
Oh, the driver is definitely toast, but yeah if you're looking for a QB you want a guy who is going to die trying to fix things not hold on for dear life at the back of the bus knowing that's the safest place to be.
Some interesting comments tossed around. I like it. What's the beef on Tyler Wilson. I really haven't heard his name knocked around either. He or Dysert. Interesting stuff! BUT, I'm in the camp that agrees we should be looking at a QB in the or after the 3rd round. I swear, if the Jets draft Geno I will pull my skin right off. He just does not look polished enough to me. He also smacks of having to have huge talent around him to be good as opposed to making the talent he has better...which is Sanchez squared...don't need it.
Tyler Bray could also be the next Ryan Leaf by all accounts. Big arm, and bigger ego. BTW- Dysert has an arm. He threw some great passes in crappy weather playing in Ohio. Watch his tape against Ohio State. If he didn't play the way he did, his shitty team would have lost by 70.
I like EJ and Geno im just not sure the Jets will use a 1st or a 2nd on a QB. If EJ slides to the 3rd we should be all over it IMO!!! Wilson 2.0 for Idzik
Maybe it's just me but I'm on the "Play Dead for Ted" sweepstakes. Jets need to get to pick this dude next year no matter what. Only QBs in this class that I really like in this class are Nassib, Manuel and potentially Dysert. I'd prefer not to pick any of them because they're nowhere near Teddy Bridgewater.
Just watched some cutups of Zac Dysert for the first time - there is a lot to like. I would like him in the 4th, and would be okay with him in the 3rd if there is a run on QBs He was victimized by A LOT of dropped passes from his WRs. Many of these were routine catches that were dropped too, not particularly tough He shows good mobility in the pocket (sliding in pocket, elusive to rush, extending plays, etc). He won't wow you with his running ability/speed, but enough to be a factor. Also good at throwing on the run, but can lose his spiral when he tries to overthrow it Shows decent touch on the intermediate throws Might trust his arm too much at times - throws off his back foot or doesn't step into throws when he has room Protects the ball well when pressure is coming. Puts 2 hands on the ball and makes sure to not fumble it, all while keeping eyes down the field in case he can escape ------ Outside of Dysert, I have been a big supporter of Sean Renfree for quite some time now, especially in the 6th or 7th round. Also wouldn't be opposed to Ryan Nassib in the 2nd if the Jets trade down from 9 and/or 13 and pick up some extra 2nds ----- If they're looking for a project (ie undrafted) I would like to take a look at Colby Cameron if he lasts. A huge project could be Peter Lalich (Cal - PA)
If you can get Dysert in the 5th round, then you do. Picking Dysert wouldn't allow you to not pick Teddy next season if we're in a position to draft him.
From what I saw at Senior Bowl practices....he looked nothing special & didn't have zing on passes. Even if u watch Grudens Camp, Bray has all the tools, just needs to be coached up. He's ur average knucklehead spoiled rotten kid, but if he studies ....he can wing it. Basically....he a young Brett favre???
This pretty much sums up my view of Bray, his upside is Farve like, his downside is Lieflike...In the 2nd or 3rd round I'd roll the dice on him. But not the first.
This year has touches of 2005 in it. The 49ers were desperate for a QB that year on the 1 and the conversation all spring was "are any of the QB's worth the pick?" Everybody was downplaying the QB's talent level. Finally the 49ers settled on Alex Smith very late in the process, while Rodgers fell to 24. The thing that's interesting is that Smith wasn't viewed as a sure thing 1st rounder, let alone the 1 pick when he announced he was coming out early. Lots of people saw him as a product of Urban Meyers system and thought he was coming out when he did because Meyers was leaving Utah.
I can see that everyone is excited about the possibility of Dysert. What about EJ Manuel? Anybody think it would be good to take him at #39?
