All in all Idzek has shown some very good smarts. He's done what's best for the organisation. *ZING* Winner
Superstar Revis for 16 million year coming off ACL surgery. Everyone forgets that fact for some reason. We also got a 6 back for trading up for Revis I believe? If he was healthy, we were getting so much more. But he isn't and wasn't unfortunately.
A key thing some beat writers/people who cover the Jets posted, the Jets and Revis' agents probably didn't have the trust or relationship to sign Revis to a contract that isn't guaranteed. So this isn't a contract the Jets could have hashed out if they wanted to. Also, depending on the market, Revis can and might hold out. The non guaranteed means the Bucs might just cut him if he holds out, but he might hold out if the market for CB explodes. He could hold out wanting more, force the Bucs to pay more, or get cut and get what he wants from a team. If the market doesn't explode, he's still making 16 and you figure at least 3 years he's there so he's netting 48 beofre the Bucs consider cutting him
To those whining about how this compares to the Harvin trade: @RichCimini: If you use draft pick value chart to compare Revis, Harvin trades, the #Jets got more value than #Vikings even though they got just 2 picks.
Only problem with that is the Jets themselves screwed what little was left of their own leverage by making it patently obvious they wanted to trade him and had no interest in attempting to sign him. They didn't even pay lip service to wanting to keep Revis, everyone knew the Jets were selling him off at fifty cents on the dollar, which they wound up doing the way they do with all their good players.
It sort of works that way in the NFL though. Marshall Faulk was drafted #2 overall then traded for a 2nd and 5th in the 'prime' of his career.
Percy Harvin is never healthy and Minny got more. I don't buy the injury excuse, everyone knows revis will be Revis again barring future injury. He may not be HOF Revis this year but he'll still be great and as soon as the knee is 100% and he's confident in it he'll be back to being the best defensive player in the game. We got fleeced. draft value chart doesn't take into account the draft itself where many feel there isn't much difference almost anywhere in rd 1 this year. Minny got more for a vastly inferior player that is always hurt. What bizarre world are we living in comparing Percy Harvin to darrelle Revis ? One may be the best of all time at his position, the other isn't even top 10 at his position in 2013.
we exchanged 1's in 2007, this year we didn't exchange 1's we just got a 1 so that's not exactly accurate.
We got more value than the Vikings did for Percy harvin. The draft chart says that. If revis wasn't hurt and we didn't have only one suitor and wasn't demanding 16 million, we could have gotten more. But he was worth and only one team was bidding. At that point you take what you get which is still more value that harvin and move on. Too bad SF didn't want him because that would have been a nice bidding war for us.
And of course there is a difference between 25 and 13. Hypothetically if both teams were to trade down, we would net more because a 13 is more value than a 25.
Now trade out of 13 and get a late rnd 1 and a 2nd and maybe more. I don't think TB had all the leverage seeing that they were pretty much dead last in pass D last year. I personally would have rather have held on to him until after the draft... get to camp then trade for more in next yrs draft.
much like looking at rankings blindly yes we got more value- slightly more but in reality according to draft experts there isn't much difference btw the 13th pick and the 15th pick this year so based off that Minny got more and even if it is close(like it was) it's a joke b/c Revis is the far better player and that's not debateable in any way.
What the fuck is wrong with some of you people? Revis was NOT in his prime in the current state. He is recovering from a TORN ACL. No other team wanted him. Idzik traded him to the ONLY team showing interest. It was either let Revis walk for nothing or trade him before TB drafted a CB and get a 1st and most likely a 3rd out of the deal. It's common sense man. You people bitch and complain about something that was impossible to fix. Read the article above. Idzik asked for 2 firsts, no one took it. He then asked for 3 picks and no one took it. It was either to extend Revis with $16 million a year or let him play in 2013, a year in which we all feel won't be anything special, and then watch him walk off the team with ZERO compensation. It's amazing how some of you are so damn ignorant. Blame this shit on Tanny. If he hadn't signed him with that retarded ass deal, maybe we wouldn't be in this predicament. Idzik handled everything perfectly. He did the most he could do while ridding us of a HUGE cap hit every year.
The Jets will now have the flexibility to trade either or both #9 and #13 picks. The Vikings, Falcons, 49ers and the Rams are possibly looking to trade up. The best trade partners for the Jets are the 49ers and the Vikings in terms of good matches value wise. If the Jets can take that #13 pick and spin it off to #31 and #34 or a combo with one of the Vikings 1st rounders and a 3rd rounder this will help. You can't look at what the Jets specifically got from the Bucs today. You need to look at the totality of the picks after Thursday night. If there are no further moves, than this assessment may be justified but right now it is premature. That being said, the Jets took an almost untradeable asset in Revis and turned it into an asset that actually has move value once the draft clock starts ticking.
No but what's done is done. Revis was not coming back and the Jets were unwilling to pay him 16 million per year. The defense will be good and we are no worse than we were last season. We need talent on offense some play makers. I am hoping we can get something in the draft. Revis will not be Revis this season anyway. An ACL is a lot harder on a corner and if Revis does return to form this season it will be mid to late season. Offense driven league lets get some offense
His trade value wasn't based on talent alone. He's stubborn when it comes to contract negotiations and money and that lowered his value for many teams. It just doesn't make sense to pay $16M for a cornerback, even the best cornerback ever to play the game.
Give me a better scenario? You have been bitching for pages and pages of this thread, yet you have no answer. Idzik asked every GM what they would do and they all said what he just did. Is every GM wrong? You actually think that Revis and the Jets were going to work out a long term deal? Haven't you learned your lesson about him over the past years. He was taking NOTHING short of $15 million. There was NO WAY we were going to pay that. So, what did Idzik do? Traded him for a 1st and 3rd to the ONLY team wanting him before letting Revis walk off this team in 2014.
