We only get to see the answer on this one if they win the Super Bowl in 2013. They're not cutting him in the first few years if they don't win. They'll cut him when they fire Schiano after 2015 if they still haven't gotten close. Or of course if he gets hurt. If he gets hurt he is cut before the next season.
I too was hoping for a 5th this yr so we could flip it for Ivory. But that is my only minor gripe of the trade.
the fact that he got no guaranteed money--and he TOOK IT-concerns me. I suppose he figures he is sure to get 48 mill out of them at least if he is healthy and performs at a decent level. BUt what if Freeman smellls this year, and they come to the realization they are going nowhere. They could cut him. Dont think it could happen. But this scenario disturbs my logic. I too will take the picks and be happy. No CB is worth that.
This is the NFL. Who knows if Revis will be on the roster next March. That's why it's CONDITIONAL. Idzik did not have to make the trade. That's the point I am trying to make there was no reason to settle on such a weak package. You say he had no leverage. Tampa bay was LAST IN PASS Defense in a division full of high octane offenses. Do you think Xavier Rhodes was the answer? That was their plan B. So instead they essentially drafted Revis this year. This is a franchise that is trying to win now (Tampa). Revis is the only piece that possibly puts them in the race to win their stacked division. Given this, Idzik had a LOT of leverage over them. especially since every other FA DB has BEEN SIGNED ALREADY. Not to mention Miami could pick Rhodes at 12 (they need a DB badly). So Tampa Bay needed Revis much more than Idzik needed a sorry package. Being a good GM is not about taking scraps just because a player could walk. It's about establishing value and sticking to a gameplan. Idzik folded up on this one and the franchise has been set back for it.
Rex is pissed you know this Cro is good but he's no Revis, remember vs Dallas we had to take him off of Dez
That's just it, now if we want Ivory we have to trade a mid round pick this year. Not what I was hoping for.
Or he could just re-injure his knee or tear his patella, which he is obviously a risk for after reconstructive surgery.
What leverage did they have? With no franchise tag, one year to Go and only one team interested what were they supposed to get?
Imagine if he does it in the first pre-season game he plays in? Jesus Christ this would turn into a coup of a trade.
You don't make trades on the hope the guy gets injured. This is not fantasy football. Idzkil blew it. Plain and simple.
walterfootball.com just gave the Jets a D Grade for this trade - so if you needed anymore proof that this was in fact a good trade for the jets then there it is right there lol Jeez no-one is happy Revis is gone but given that its 99% likely he was going to go anyway given his wage demands it was a case of getting what we could, and I think we did OK.
I really hate it when people say that it's too soon to have an opinion on a trade. You can have an initial opinion and it evolve.
