You guys are nuts if you think a top 15 pick, and a 3rd and 4th next year is bad for the Jets. This isn't even counting for the fact that Idzik may have chatted with teams already as if he had the 13th pick in his mind, which may have been why Idzik OK'd this deal. He may have a trade down option in the works with someone and if we get more picks out of this then this guy should have his feet kissed(Taking we hit on a majority of picks).
We'll see. I've been reading about the draft from people that pay attention to it all offseason and to me, there's no potential GOAT like Revis. At least we know we got rid of 16M a year. I guess that's the big win because we will need to re-sign Wilkerson to a big boy contract soon.
If the Revis contract is as reported then the Jets really had no choice but to make the trade. If Revis wanted $16M a year so badly that he was willing to take no guaranteed money then there is no way he takes less from the Jets than that. Can't pay a CB $16M a year while rebuilding and be anything better than the Oakland Raiders circa 2007.
At least we got SOMETHING for Revis, he could have walked for nothing. I hope we use the 9th pick on Geno Smith then draft the best available pass rusher with the 13th pick.
I'm not seeing that its a 3rd & 4th anywhere. It's a 3rd or 4th (conditional) Was hoping for more, but no way the Jets could afford his contract, and this is better than letting him walk next year for nothing (and a large salary cap hit)
I said earlier in this thread anything on top of the 13th pick was a bonus. Some people are smoking crack if they really thought they were going to get more than they did in this trade. I don't know the conditions but we can assume we have a fairly reasonable shot at the other pick to be a 3rd, I have no problems and actually like it being a year down the road, gives us another decent pick next year. Fair deal on both sides.
Man, 6 years 96 million, no guaranteed. Can't wait to see how that deal works out. The Players Union let a player take a contract with 0 guaranteed money?
NFL Network is saying it's a 13' first round and conditional 3rd and 4ths in 2014 Now they aren't....
Even if it's just the 13 and a 3rd next year it's still good ammo for the rebuild and Revis obviously wasn't playing for the Jets at $16M a year.
If its or, its not as good of a deal BUT it can be salvaged IF WE TRADE DOWN from 9 or 13 to get more picks. WE HAVE TO trade down to make this trade worthwhile in my eyes.
It's a 1st, and a 4th that escalates into a 3rd given some condition. Awful deal. For next year's picks, should have been a 3rd escalated into a 2nd. Idzik doesn't show much negotiating skills here.
Just to understand this correctly, next year's 3rd is conditional? Which can go up as high as what? Or is the highest a 3rd??
So the Bengals can get two firsts for Carson Palmer but the Jets can only get a 1st and conditional mid-rounder for a top five player in the NFL? What a terrible trade. Good luck finding a player half as good as Revis at 13, Idzik. At least if we had gotten multiple picks we could've gotten some depth. Ugh.
Good point on twitter. The nature of the contract means there are some pretty big concerns about the knee. Plays a role in the picks coming back.
Only two picks: This year's #13 and a conditional 4th (can be a 3rd) in 2014. One pick short of making this a good trade. I'm definitely disappointed.
