I thought I would stick this here rather than the video game forum as it will reach many more eyes. Mods, if this is a problem please move as you see fit. Basically, EA Sports was sued for $27 million for having the exclusive license to produce football games and overcharging for a shitty product. I'm sure you can spend hours and hours reading up on the lawsuit...just Google it if you're interested. Here's what it means for you. If you've purchased either a Madden or NCAA title between the years 2005-2012 for either PS2/XBOX or PS3/360, you're entitled to a claim. So, if you're like me and have purchased both the Madden and NCAA titles for 2005-2012, you are entitled to the max payout of $209.76. It appears to go on the honor system as the claim form did not ask for any receipts or other documentation (who the hell would have a receipt from a PS2 game they bought back in 05'?). The site to fill out your claim form is: http://easportslitigation.com/
I wish they would make them get rid of this exclusive license bs with Madden and also with Sunday Ticket
Cool 5 games... pretty awesome. 3 PS2 Games and two 360 games... that's like 70 bucks. Nice, I can go buy another EA Sports game with that money...
The NFL also wanted an exclusive deal; I wonder how much EA will get back from them as this was clearly a joint decision by the two parties. EA's interest in the monopoly is clear -- the quality and price of 2K's games ate into their sales and forced them to reduce their price to compete. with 2K out of the way, they could artificially inflate the price again due solely to the absence of competition. I don't think EA has a ground to stand on in the suit. and the NFL also had a vested interest in getting rid of 2K and the competition -- because the competition was devaluing the brand and not allowing either partner to sell at a "luxury" price tag. and the last thing the NFL would want is to see their games priced lower than the normal video game and be seen as a cheap product. Gonna file my claim as well.
EA as a company has gone down hill, have you guys play Medal of Honor Warfighter? Buggiest game ever, and they rushed the game to make money and compete with Call of Duty. They destroy Medal of Honor in the process. Also the Madden series always been the same old same old, same shit every year. I want NFL 2K series back
I usually pass on Madden but buy the NCAA alsmot every year and my biggest gripe with the NCAA series is they eliminated the small schools like Princeton and Northern Arizona. I'd much rather play against Grambling than FCS Southwest. Their college basketball games have always sucked...
I applied too. 16 for me. Madden and NCAA. I received this E-mail about the class action suit and did not respond till now. By the way I don't wan't 2k back...please. The animation was good but the game play was jerky like zombie football on crystal meth.
Yeah, the last one I got was the one iwth Adam Morrison but I know they made at least one more after that. It had a UCLA player on the cover.
I couldn't agree more. I will never forget when NFL 2K5 came out and it was $19.99 brand new, while Madden was $49.99. Not to mention the game was 10x better and included ESPN commentary, ESPN "Countdown" pregame show and many other options it took years Madden to even come out with. *sigh* "you are missed NFL 2k, maybe one day we'll meet again..." There is hope however for the NCAA line of games. In that same lawsuit EA lost the sole rights over NCAA football but retained the ones for NFL. So this year there should be an NCAA 2K football game or whoever else decides to make one.
NBA 2K13 is awesome... could you imagine NCAA 2K14? 320 teams, recruiting, make your own schedule... ridiculous
I had two of the Madden games on 360 between those years. I'll gladly take my $40. Aw, wait a second. The 360 games are only worth $5 each? Damnit.
According to the web site, the deadline to file a claim is May 15th. There probably won't be any movement until at least then.
Coach Ratface basketball on Sega Genessis was the best CBB ever. It's sad that the game is 20 years old and nothing has even come close. Genessis also had the first game with in game commentary which was Joe Montana Sports Talk Football. It's crazy but there was a time when Sega absolutely destroyed Nintendo.
