Would you give Revis the extension Clay Matthews just signed 5yrs/65M(31M) guaranteed maybe up it a little and give him 70M with 40M guaranteed
I think it easier to do something like that with the new rookie wage scale. If the team will compete it is because they will draft a QB who will not get paid for 3 or 4 years.
Not true. It's relatively common for pass rushers to disappear for entire games. Revis, however, makes sure the NUMBER 1 receiver doesn't affect the game.
And half of the time the #1 receiver is Denarius Moore, Danny Ammendola, Josh Gordon, Torrey Smith, Antonio Brown and even Stevie Johnson. Is it worth paying a guy 13-14 million to a guy thats going to cover players pretty inferior, especially when we are already paying another #1 CB in Cromartie 10 million a year? Imo, you can only have one... If we traded Cromartie, Id be okay with Revis at 12 million a year. Paying 2 CBs more than 20% of your cap? On a rebuilding team? Hell no.
Yes i would. Prefer 5yrs/60 mil, but i would go as high as 65 and no higher on a 5 year deal. Revis impacts a game as much as Mathews.
5 years/55M and 35M guaranteed. When I look at Clay Matthews salary, I'm thinking Jets should aim a little lower when talking to Revis. I'm surprised others actually aim higher. As a sign of loyalty, I'd give him more guaranteed $$$ even though he doesn't show Jets any loyalty when it comes to contract negotiations. This isn't the 1990s & earlier where only 2-3 receivers are running patters. It's spread offenses & Clay Matthews > Revis in today's NFL. If Jets wanna give Revis 12M+ then they need to get rid of Cro. Gotta set a limit on how much $$ can be invested in a starting CB duo.
It doesn't matter as the Jets won't nor should they allocate that much money to a single player on a rebuilding team that still doesn't have the QB they will ultimately build around. You can expect the Sanchez, Harris and Holmes contracts at least to be off the books after this year. Revis at 15 mil would stick out like a sore thumb.
You should check out the NUMBER 1 receiver on every team. Then determine how much you'd pay for the CB to shut them down.
That whole concept is overblown anyway. Look at NE where their top receivers are a slot guy and two tight ends. What is Revis going to do for you then? You can probably expect a lot more teams to start playing that way too.
Agreed. I think Revis is a great player & want him on the Jets. However, I think people are using the comments to describe Dion Sanders & blindly applying them to Revis. Dion Sanders took away half the field. If Revis played in that era, he would also take away half the field. However, neither one of them is capable of taking away half the field today. Also, eliminating the team's #1 WR with a single CB had a much bigger impact in the past. Spread offenses today have so many options out there on every play. ====== Having the best CB in the game helps & Jets are better with him on the field. However, Jets need to set a price tag on every player (including Revis). Revis today is not as valuable as Revis-type player 10-20 years ago. Most of the trade Revis camp wants him to say but only at a reasonable price.
Matthews is much more of an impact player and he is young without a repaired knee: Matthews, 26, has 42.5 sacks in his four seasons with the Packers, including 13 last season. He has 204 tackles, seven forced fumbles and four interceptions in 58 career You can't look at that and say we need to pay Revis $65 million when they put a top 5 pass defense on the field last season without him.
It's not just about taking away one receiver, its also about freeing up other players on the defense. it amazes me how jets fans undervalue Revis. If we kept Revis and had a pass rusher it would be game over for our opponents.
last year we were fine without revis and no pass rush. get us a pass rush and with or without revis we will be dominate
If our D line plays to their potential, we add a pass rusher, AND keep Revis we can move past dominant into legendary.
Every day it seems like this deal is slipping away, and I hope that continues. The Jets will have the best secondary in football in 2013 if we draft a Safety early in the draft. Revis - Landry - Rookie TBA - Cromartie
Lets say we use the 9 on Star, and keep Revis. Cro and Revis, with Wilk, Star, Coples and Barnes rushing plus a blitzer. That's a lot of pressure on a QB to make a fast decision while trying to avoid his top targets. Or Jordan or Jarvis Jones with the 9 would give us good passing fronts as well.
right.and if our dline plays to their ability than our dline is going to need to get paid. signing to revis to 13 a year is going to make us lose either mo wilk or coples. personally i'd rather have to good dlineman than one and a great cb
