Conor Orr @ConorTOrr 5m RT @AdamSchefter: Jets bringing back LB Calvin Pace on a one-year deal. Good move I think.
Came here to post the same. I like it, one year deal could be a decent starter/solid depth Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter 10m Jets bringing back LB Calvin Pace on a one-year deal.
Here is some more on it although I can't really tell what they are paying him. http://espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/sto...k-jets-bring-back-cut-calvin-pace-source-says
I'm not down with it....i'd rather save a precious spot on the 53 man roster for a part time LBer who's learning and with upside willing to take someones head off on Special Teams. This may be a glimpse into what Idzik has planned for the draft...no new LBers. eidt: he may be camp fodder...brought in to help teach the new kids throughout training camp and preseason only to be whacked on the last day of cut downs! edit edit: ....or it may mean Rex is starting to wear Idzik down a bit....Revis may be next to sign!
He was criminally over-paid but he was a solid starter on a good D. I'm happy he's around one more year to teach our new OLBs... assuming we signed him cheap of course.
I think this is a sign that they will focus on offense at the top of the draft. It's pretty clear that's where the need is. I wouldn't be surprised if they go WR, QB and TE in the first three rounds.
He probably starts along with Barnes..Thomas is also gone and who else is there unless they sign another vet (doubtful) or draft a rookie who excels immediately.
I am sure it is all about money and value. The guy was a starter last year, and I wonder how realistic it was to think they could replace three LB starters in one off season. I am guessing he agreed to a cheap contract, so it probably makes sense to bring him back. Imo he's struggled with the Jets partly due to injuries to himself, partly due to injuries to others that meant he was required to play a more reactive and less attacking role, in turn leading to lower numbers we might have otherwise seen in sacks and pressures. Which I recall was what he was touted as when he first came to the Jets. Still, it's not like the fact he was overpaid meant that he should be out of the league now. He will make a contribution, and maybe this means the Jets will be that much more likely to go OG or some other position on O with their first pick, and generally look more to O in the higher rounds.
I think it says something that Pettine did not go after him to help in Buffalo, but I have always considered Pace a decent player. Just way overpaid. Now he likely is not overpaid, so good move.
