Regular season games aren't big games apparently.

his release is too slow to be an NFL QB? interesting in that he's ben an NFL QB for 4 years and twice was almost a SB QB. His release is fine, it's his decision making that is holding him back.

we didn't have ideal circumstances when he had success earlier in his career, we just had TALENT which we didn't have last year.

yeah, it would be better if we had a great #s guy that fails in big spots. That would tell us how good the QB is. This game is about WINNING, no matter how you do it as long as you win that is all that matters. We have fans that would prefer a 300 yd game and a loss to a 200 yd game and a win. That's sad but that is the fantasy football culture we live in.

Now you will bring up meaningless points to deflect. What does Marino vs. dilfer have to do w/ anything or any of those others QB comparisons? marino elevated mediocre teams to playoff teams, Fouts wasn't a big game QB, Doug Williams took TB to a title game and Wash to a SB so he must have been ok, right? Rypien was NFL MVP, did he have a better career than Anderson? of course not but Rypien wasn't a bad QB and if Anderson doesn't throw 2 INts in SB XVI maybe they win? If Tarkenton doesn't throw 1 TD and 6 INts in 3 SBs maybe they win one? QB play is vital to winning, that's something you guys don't seem to get. You think you can throw anyone out there and win.

The fact that you are bashing his #s from the SD game shows me exactly what you know about this game or what you don't know. He was VITAL to winning and he played very well, it's not just about #s!!!! The QB position determined who won BOTH games. Rivers had a critical INT trying to force one from his EZ which killed SD, at Indy where Sanchez had a terrible 1st half but excellent 2nd half Manning had a chance to win it w/ one more 1st down and he FAILED which gave lowly mark Sanchez less than a minute to get in FG range and he did get into FG range setting up Folk for a chip shot but he didn't pass for 250-300 yds so he must have sucked!

You may want to sit down w/ someone who knows this game so they can teach you about it, maybe in the future you won't post such nonsense.

We have access to more info and film than ever before and we still have fans evaluating based strictly on fantasy #s- it's sad.

Yep, mark did nothing. he was just along for the ride. Did you notice the SB we won w/ a similar cast in 2008 w/ Brett Favre and an easier schedule plus no Brady to deal w/?

    Junc,

It appears that the Darkside has won these guys over. Kurts post says it succinctly. He attended camp, and IN HIS VIEW Sanchez was rhe most dynamic, talented player on offense,

Observing that hes played in two crappy systems, and had gus off the street last year...means nothing.

An observation of where the Schotty woes came from, and the reason for optimism are best exemplified in the playoff game he won in NE.

Brady may have lost, but if you look at the individual targets on the pass plays, Belli gets how the modern passing game works, probably because he paid attention when Weis was there.

Most pf Bradys throws were either screens, or inside the hashmarks, the rest inside the numbers, almost nothing outside and down. They barely make a pretense out of trying to keep the defense honest.

You are right. That Tom Brady guy sucks. He's lucky he only has to throw screen passes or easy dumpoffs. He's not good like Mark Sanchez!

    Englissh challenged?

The point was Schotty sucked. But haters gunna hate.

This year Sanchez will see a higher percentage of inside and small throws. MM will go down the field, but usually sets it up first.

Well that's scary then because Sanchez is terrible on the "small throws". He's horrendous at throwing screen passes. That's why Scottenheimer didn't call them - he knew his QBs limitations. Prior to Sanchez the Jets threw alot of screens. Why did they stop with Sanchez for some reason? Answer- because he's terrible at them.

He's good at the quick slant and the long deep pass across the middle. But so is 90% of NFL Quarterbacks.

My guess is if Morningweg truly has free reign to run his system with whatever QB he deems best at running it - then Sanchez doesn't make it out of training camp as the starter or possibly even on the team.

I'm not so sure Morningweg will be allowed that flexibility and will be forced to work with Sanchez. In which case we will see a year similar to last year. But at least you guys are practicing your excuses in case that happens!

    Another irrelevant comparison..

    Favre got injured.
Favre led that team to an 8-3 record and beat the AFC's best team Titans in Tenn. Still went 9-7, which was Sanchez's record in 09.
Sanchez and Jets were let into the playoffs by the Colts, real record would have been 8-8.
    Favre's offense. 9th ranked. Sanchez's offense. 17th ranked.
    Favre's defense. 18 ranked. Sanchez's defense. 1st ranked.

I give Sanchez all the credit in the world for those playoff games. But let's not compare him to Brett Favre.

    Darksider=realist
    Hobbes and Junc= homers

I'd love to see Mark succeed as much as anyone. And I think he had the tools to and was well on his way to. He's just not going to. The franchise has destroyed this kid by not putting the proper weapons around him, giving him an undeserved contract extension, bringing in Tebow, 3rd offensive coordinator.

No, he isnt. Goback and look at some of the games from last year. His accruacy in that regard has improved markedly ( no pun intended).

stop w/ the Favre got injured nonsense. he is known for playing through pain and got hurt in October than had his only good stretch of football in November so stop w/ that excuse. We had a creampuff sched and no Brady to worry about w/ a HOF QB and couldn't win.

    favre's team missed playoffs
Mark's team a half away from the Super Bowl.

we didn't miss the playoffs in '08 b/c of the D we missed it b/c favre was brutal down the stretch w/ as much talent to work with as Mark had a year later.

Or...maybe you guys are just Darksiders.

Both Junc and I have acknowledged the guys problems...i dont see his detractors giving him credit for anything.

But at least youre seeing the problem.

    But, destroyed?

Get real. Destroyed was what Obrien was becoming by being the most sacked guy in the league repeatedly.

They have denied him success..but. Calling a guy shot is very premature.

See Kurts post a couple pages back.

To be fair although Vinny was way more talented than Sanchez, like Sanchez he sucked, unlike Sanchez he played for a team that really sucked.

Now if Vinny came up with the best D in the league and the best OL and running game in the league he might not have sucked?

That is why we missed the playoffs in 08, but why did we even make them in 09. Cause of Mark's play or the fact that the Colts let them win the last game of the year.

I was pointing out the defenses to prove the point that Mark played with a much better team.

They both went 9-7. Except Mark had a team let him win a game.

Mark really outdueled Brady in 09. Beating him 16-9. So there goes your Brady excuse.

We trailed Indy by 5 midway through the 3rd when they removed starters, people act like we had no chance and were getting killed. How come no one complains about Indy pulling starters in '07 which allowed ten to make the playoffs?

did you know in 1993 we faced Houston backups needing a win to make the playoffs- we lost 24-0.

You still have to go out and win the games.

I don't think we made the playoffs b/c of mark, we made it b/c of the D and run game BUT Mark was huge in winning playoff games.

mark played w/ a better D w/o a doubt but we still had the pieces on D including a MUCH better Kris Jenkins who was dominant and we had the easiest sched we have ever had PLUS didn't have to worry about Tom Brady.

Miami won 1 game in 2007 then won 11 in that 2008 season and hasn't bveen close to postseason since. We should have been able to take advantage of no Brady and the easy sched not that dolphin team.

Junc, I appreciate your propensity towards arguing, but it seems to me that the entire organization, as well as most of the fan base is ready to move on from MS... reasons given are typically his poor decision making, happy feet, and turnover ratio right?

if the organization wanted to move on so badly they would have already. I am not saying he will ever be good again but he deserves another shot to win his job back. If he fails this year we move on, if he succeeds again maybe we have our QB for years to come again? we'll see.

There was no scenario in which the Jets were going to release Sanchez before the draft. That would have made them appear QB hungry going into the draft and would have compromised some of their options.

Whether they'll release him in the aftermath of the draft probably depends on what happens in the later rounds and who falls to them for consideration.

Sanchez, BTW, deserves nothing. He's been a crappy QB for 20+ games now and whatever consideration he might have had coming (read none in the NFL for anybody but a star) has long been exhausted.

we'll see what they do after the draft but do you really think other teams think the jets are set at QB? people know the position is unsettled around the league.

He deserves to compete for his job.
