It's not like Steiny had sources inside the front office. He befriends all the mediocre players. That's where his sources would come from.
In the words of George Bush; "There's an ol' saying. Fool me, uh, once, ugh...Fool me twice, uh, uh, uh... I won't get fooled again!"
I'd have no problem bringing back Pace. Him, McIntyre, Barnes and a rookie isn't a great rotation, but it could be worse. Maybe Sapp can carve out a role, too. On a budget, getting a guy who has been starting here and isn't terrible for close to the veteran minimum I would imagine is a solid stopgap.
If he is cheap would be a great signing. We still need 2 OLBs as Barnes is only a passing situation guy. I would love to see them bring back Moore as well.
Way to stick to the plan Idzik, Rex was probably crying and told Woody he would jump off the roof if we didnt atleast bring Scott or Pace back. Its amazing when we first cut him everyone was saying "Dead Weight and overpaid and to slow" now everyones "glad to have him back"
You have to understand the situation. We have two OLB's......TWO. Idzik's plan was to create competition, you don't do that with 2 players fighting for 2 spots. Plus, who on the market right now would be better than pace, a guy with 3 years experience in the system? If we are paying him 7.5 mil, its a bad move. But if we pay him around 1 mil, how is that a bad move?
If true it would make you believe that OLB will not be their first or maybe even second round pick, but he would have to come cheap which seems likely as he still hasn't hooked up with anybody else.
Depending the price, this isn't a bad move. He would provide depth and they could probably flip him so he plays the strongside and set the edge as upgrade to Thomas.
ehhhh this news kind of makes me cringe dont hate the player but would rather take chances on other options at this point. hes not gonna kill your d if you dont let him cover, but hes way slow
For a minimal deal I would be fine bringing him back. I guess Idzik was hoping someone else signs him so we get the comp pick but that never developed. Lets bring him back for solid depth if the price is right.
While I definitely get the sentiment, but cutting the old contracts solved two of the three issues (dead weight on the cap and being overpaid). If the contract is for the vet min, then those issues don't come back. Certainly, that doesn't solve the speed issue because Pace has certainly lost a step. However, if he serves only a fill-in part time OLB, he'll have fresher legs and his speed (or lack thereof) won't be exposed. Also, bringing back Pace isn't like we're resigning Eric Smith
i think this could not be further from the truth.a 30 something on a min. contract is not going to stop them from drafting olb in the 1st or 2nd round. it gives flexibilty not to have to reach for one if the board does not show the value
Wouldn't mind this move, long as he comes real cheap. Then at 9 you draft Ziggy. Unfortunately Jordan probably won't be available. If we get Ziggy then have him play passing downs and ease him into a full time role. Ziggy and Barnes could form a real nice pass rush.
I'm just worried that Rex will play Pace out of loyalty, but I wouldn't mind him or Bart Scott returning to add depth to the LB corp.
