If it's economical I'm on board. In a part time role he would be good. Barnes/Pace/McIntyre/draftee rotate.

I wouldn't be opposed to this at all. I wasn't anti-Pace like some people have been. I actually thought he had a pretty good year.

"Ugh" is my initial reaction. I guess it's not terrible but I just want to move on. Start fresh.

    Why not Bart Scott...?

So long as we don't criminally overpay him, I'm all for it.

Move on from top 10 defenses?

People talk about Bart Scott and Calvin Pace like they're Mark Brown and Victor Hobson.

Somehow I don't think Jake Steinberg is going to have much for inside scoops with Idzik in town. We will see.

That said, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see the Jets bring back some of the free agents still walking the street.

Not that I hate him, but he's old and was never what he was supposed to be here. We're trying to build a new team now, no reason to hold onto a guy like Pace.

Why not? Adds depth and maybe even some flexibility to drafting. I'll bet he can still contribute. I assume it's for somewhere near the minimum

    Bart Scott > Pace

He's way too slow, but I guess depth is depth.

Depth. Maybe they aren't effective starters any more, but part-time? Sure. And that's how you overcome an injury or two.

Barnes is a passing downs guy. It'd be McIntyre and draftee at OLB in the base defense. I would like someone with knowledge of the system and experience getting at least SOME reps, it might as well be Calvin Pace at an economical price.

    We will agree to disagree.

And I dunno about Steinberg. I believe he's the guy who told us RR was gonna take "the biggest risk of his coaching career" @NE and it turned out to be Isiah Trufant covering Welker.

Didn't Trufant cover Welker pretty well in our first matchup?

Yes he did a great job and actually the D as a whole were outstanding holding NE to a season low 380 total yards of offense even with overtime, without Revis Christ. As a sidenote: everyone seems to forget about Trufant, he could be a sick nickel corner imo.

Yes but he got hurt and could not be used for the rest of the season.

Is Calvin Pace any better than some other free agents that are still out there?

i doubt there will be any guarenteed money. so he either will show he can help or he will be cut for someone who can.
do it, don't do it. whatever, this isn't a big deal

  18. I thought Pace had a good year & overall a decent career as a Jet.The guy was never more than an average pass rusher. Not his fault the Jets overpaid for him.

He IS however a tough northeast LB who sets the edge really well. If he's economical he's not a bad rotational body.

I actually think Calvin may be more effective as a rotational guy. He has the length and size to be disruptive combined with Wilk, Coples, (Imagine Jordan or Star?), Barns and that's not bad on passing downs. He has always been somewhat of a liability in pass coverage, but we can limit that if he is only a one or two down guy LB. he must come cheap though
