Take Your Eye Off The Ball? My dad got it for me for my birthday. Great explanations of things I've noticed, but didn't really understand why. Kirwan knows his stuff.

Would that be coming back to 56.7% completion pct with a 6.4 YPA, 26 TD passes and 26 turnovers like 2011 or would it be a 54.8% completion pct with a 6.49 YPA, 17 TD's and 14 turnovers like in 2010?

When the topic of comebacks emerges it's always interesting to look at what the player has actually done in the past.

as we know looking blindly at a statsheet w/o context tells us everything we need to know.

The lament of all lifetime .250 hitters who thought they were better than that based on a few clutch hits they got at a big moment.

Yeah I read that book. It had a lot of good "broad brush" type information. I'd like to try something with a little more depth. I've heard Bill Walsh's book is good but I looked it up and it was pretty pricey.

I'd rather have a .250 hitter w/ a bunch of clutch hits in October than a .320 guy who disappears in every big spot.

That .250 hitter needs a lot of help to get to October. The .320 guy lives in October.

Bad is bad. Mark Sanchez is a bad QB based on what we've seen of him. Expecting him to become magically good is magical thinking.

maybe, maybe not. A .320 guy out in SD hasn't seen postseason since 2009 and was outplayed by the .250 hitter his last postseason game.

Sanchez threw for over 200 yards in just two of the six playoff games, give the whole 'clutch' thing a rest. He wasnt clutch at all in 2011 or 2012.

No, it would be sufficient coaching to get him over 60%, reduce his decision making, and give him more throws inside the box, to get him going early.

25/12. 60plus pct would get it done....

You kniw the short shit that makes Brady look good...its not like its a secret.

That short shit doesn't work when there is no deep threat or even a threat of completing a 20 yard pass.

Yeah that's what makes Brady look good, the short shit. He and Sanchez are two peas in a pod.

Sanchez has never even been a .250 hitter though.
He is statistically the worst starting QB in the league. What is the worst starter's batting average? that would be better comparison.

And to those who argue the 'clutchness' of Sanchez, how did that work out in eliminatation big stage games against NYG and Tennessee in 2011 and 2012 respectively. Some of the worst football i've ever seen in the biggest moments of the season.

your point is? you think you need to pass for huge yardage to have a successful game? or to be clutch?

Andrew Luck threw for more yds than Flacco in the WC game, Indy lost 24-9
Russell Wilson had 135 more pass yds than Matt Ryan, his team lost.
Matt Schaub had 1 fewer yd passing than Tom Brady, his team lost 41-28 in a game that was nowhere near as close as the final score.
Matt Ryan had 163 more ps yds than Kapernick in the NFC title game and lost
Brady had 80 more yds than Flacco in the AFC title game and lost
Kaepernick had over 300 yds in the SB and lost.

    let's show some Jets examples:

2010 at Pitt: Sanchez throws for for 100 more yds than Ben, we lose
2006 at NE: Chad throws for 300, Brady 212. we lose by 3 TDs
1998 title game: Vinny throws for 183 more yds than Elway, we lose 23-10.

I didnt say they were similar, I said, our offense needed to be constructed within he realities of the modern NFL passing game, not tje 1970 retreads weve had for the last 7 years.

The more apt comparison, would be Testaverde, a career int machine. Who then got the right passing attack, and flourished.

growth, and opportunity. Except Sanchez will be about 10 years younger than Vinny was.

And it was the point Parcells made when he signed him, that is reminiscent. Hes always been asked to throw outsode the numbers and down the field...

See above..what happened when they stopped asking Vinny to do that?

Exactly. And THEN they wanna talk about his lack of supporting cast in those moments like he didn't have a great supporting cast in those couple clutch moments.
