ANYONE over butt fumble is an improvement--especially when the idiot coach keeps chirping "Mark gives us the best chance to win!".
OMG! Why are so many of you saying "if he falls to 9"? No one wants him 1-8, the only place I honestly see him going in the 1st is @ 22 to St. Louis or @ 25 to Minnesota.
Drafting a QB in the first round doesnt set a team back like it use to if he doenst work out. It would be interesting to see what the reaction would be if Geno is there at 9 and the jets pass. And I believe this may very well happen.
I disagree. I hope St. Louis really wants Geno and trades us their 1st @ #16 and Bradford for our #9. In an ideal world that would be awesome.
Texas - 71.4% 4 TD 0 INT 268 Yards Checked out the Texans game & didn't think he looked as good as those stats indicated. Also, Two really big fumbles deep in his territory; just giving away points. Combined with the numbers from Oklahoma & Kansas State, I'm not so confident he's done enough against quality opponents to be worth pick #9.
For a team that has been looking for a franchise QB for decades, to pass on a potential one in Smith if he is there at 9 would be almost criminal. If a potential franchise QB is sitting there in the first round, you take him. To hope that the Jets will get another shot at a franchise QB in 2014 is asinine. Who knows where the Jets will draft NEXT year and who will or won't be available. The Jets should make the Revi$ trade with TB, take pick 13, draft Smith at 9 and a pass rusher at 13 and the rebuild foundation is laid. Passing on Smith will only ensure that the Jets will continue with the QB hunt year after year as we watch other team's trash (Garrard, Palmer, etc) QB the team or draft some long shot in round 2 or later - Clemens, McElroy, etc. If the teams in front want to go with retreads like Smith, Kolb, Flynn, the Jets should take the best QB in the draft in a heartbeat.
His Maryland game was pretty damn impressive vs a top 20 defense. Threw some pretty great balls and displayed a lot of toughness, taking some pretty big hit and throwing into the face of pressure. Something that I feel is very overlooked, but should be considered, is the fact that Tavon Austin is 5'8 and Bailey is 5'10. Throwing 71% of passes to small targets like that is pretty amazing. It lessens the target size and forced him to be extremely accurate with his ball placement. As for the Texas game, he must have been hit 12 times in that game; he was under pressure the whole game- from the outside and up the middle. Obviously those fumbles hurt, but his OL did not help him. The 2nd fumble was also pretty hard to be aware of. His hand got swatted in the middle of his throwing motion by a defender who was being pushed to the ground by his RT. He also could have easily had 2 more TD's if the WR on the slant had caught a decently placed ball (it was a tad behind, but definitely catchable) and if Buie didnt fall with 20 yards of open field in front of him. With either of those, WVU wins easily.
I think Geno Smith will be a very good QB. Would I trade up to get him? No shot. If he's there at 9, it'd be pretty hard for me to say we should pass on him. Unless we get a team willing to package some picks to trade up. Agreed. We will likely not end up in the top 3 picks, so even if we wanted Bridgewater or Manziel (assuming that they're still the top guys next year and they don't get an injury) we might not be able to get them or have to give up some major value in picks.
I think you are on the money...I really dont feel there is a QB in this draft worth a 1st round pick. The QB from Florida St might have some potential worth a risk 2nd round or later... This is gonna be a great draft to watch:breakdance:
It's not that he is bad. The problem is he's inconsistent. I imagine St.L. Looks at Bradford like we're looking at Sanchez: some good moments and lots of bad ones. And the arguments should be about the same: WRs are bad, poor planning ... or is it Bradford himself? Under these conditions they might want to trade up to get Smith, for the same reasons Jets would considering drafting him.
Maybe we could give STL Sanchez and #9, for #16 and Bradford. I would love to have Bradford, he would easily be the best QB on our roster.
All it takes is one crazy-ass fuck in the front office. If they think Bradford is no good and Smith can be franchise QB... You never know.
Now that's a Madden idea. Nobody will pick Sanchez's salary and give a serviceable QB + picks in exchange.
I'm worried because most mock drafts have Smith going to either the Cards or Bills. Bills just picked up Kolb so they probably won't go for Smith, Cards are apparently trying to get Palmer and even the Raiders (who not many people have as drafting Smith) are trying to bring in Flynn. If they are all successful seems more like that Smith will be available and less likely that one of the high end pass rushers or tackles will be available. Starting to resign myself to the fact that the Smith era may officially be starting, as big of a mistake as I think it is *sigh* Guess I'll go watch more of his highlights and try to be optimistic about it.
No matter how you slice it 2014 should have a far greater selection of QB's available. I think 2013 is the perfect year to address some of our key issues and setup everything for the arrival of a young talent a QB. Yes, of course I personally want us to get Bridgewater or if he's not there Manziel 2014 Projected Draft Class of QB's - Teddy Bridgewater - AJ McCarron - Logan Thomas - Johnny Manziel - Aaron Murray - Tajh Boyd - Zach Mettenberger - Bryn Renner I think Tajh Boyd could be the real deal, someone that you could throw into that Bridgewater manziel discussion (though I don't think he's as good). not to mention Jadeveon Clowney will also be in the mix of the top 3 drafted along with some O-line guys at the top. With all this in consideration plus if we were to trade Revis and have all these extra picks, we would be very much in the mix of getting someone like Bridgewater. I not only think it's in the realm of possibility, I think it's more than likely what will happen.
malarky, some of the best in this class are defensive players, we have a need for one, so we go after them at #9. get one in the 2nd or 3rd, we don't need to waste a pick by not getting something stellar in Jones or Jordan. Warmack would be my next pick if either of those are unavailable though. geno is good, but there are other good projects that can be picked up later WITH the potentially amazing pass rush we can gain with Jones or jordan. I think not focussing at all on Defense will be to this teams detriment, its our bread and butter so long as Rex is here give him another tool to be dominant with, a QB maybe a click or two below Smith will do just fine, and I fully expect the Jets to go this way.
