This article is crap. Idzik already said, in fairly pkain english, that going i to camp they wanted to take 5 QBs. Sanchez, to FA, simmes and GMac.

Garrard and the other three will, in all likelyhood be battling for the back up job.

My thoughts exactly, I'm not saying Sanchez is the best by any stretch of the imagination, but it's like are any of the others really better?

but but but he worked with your boy morningwood before.

listen, the article is basically saying hey the jets very well may bring kolb in. if they bring in kolb and garrard then the writing is surely on the wall. there will be alot of questions answered in the next couple months.

Money on his salary already spent. I hope they use him as a designated clipboard holder / johns cleaner

I'm sure this was discussed in the official Mark Sanchez is dog poop thread but for arguments sake let's say Crappy is here on August 1st and some other team loses their starter during preseason. Let's also assume that no way in hell Sanchez is the starter here and everyone is aware of that despite how he plays during preseason. Question is, would some desperate for a QB team be able to pull off a trade for Sanchez and fit him under their cap? How would that work in August or September? How much money would the Jets have to eat? Would it even make sense for us to trade him at that point? Would it affect our cap in 2014?

However, I'm slightly worried about designated Jet face for the Hispanic heritage month. ;)

In this situation Jets would find a way to unload him, I'm sure. Something like take on half of his salary for a 5-6th might work.
That said, at this point team would look to UFA before Sanchez.

The problem with this scenario is there are not many teams where the number 2 and in most cases the number 3 QB would be threatened by Sanchez. For Sanchez to be able to compete for a a starting job there would have to be a disaster of epic proportions to some 30+ NFL QBS all at once. For example 30 NFL QBs could all break a leg being attacked by a vicious QB hunting boar, while boar hunting with Anthony Schlegal and Eric Mangini. The odds as you can see are slim to none that Sanchez would be in demand by anyone to compete for a starting NFL job no matter the injuries.

Not necessarily. Let's say Sanchez has a good training camp and plays well during the preseason, what if a really good potential playoff team loses their starter during the preseason?

Well if that's the case we should just cut his lame ass today and open up the roster spot for a youngin to compete. The Sanchez cap hit is only a burden if you believe Idzik is trying to build a competitive playoff team this season. Otherwise, we have enough money to sign draft picks and fill out our roster if we cut Sanchez loose on June 1.

    1. Sanchez always has a good clip and preseason, but it does not make him a good QB.
    2. If a potentially playoff team looses their starting QB in the preseason, they are no longer a potentially playoff team.

Of course, what you're REALLY implying is that Sanchez is good enough to get a team to playoffs. You need to up your meds.

This is exactly what would've happened if not for the contract and shaky QB. Situation. Jets need extra QB in case Gerard gets injured, McElroy gets concussion and Tebow gets ... Something. We are already paying this bum, might as well keep him in case shit hits the fan. Short of this, Mark is holding clipboard next season, Rex's face expression at the end of last game said that much.

I've wanted Sanchez gone since he blew that game against the Raiders in 2011. I know how awful he is. However, I was just throwing it out there that if some stacked team loses their QB during preseason would it be possible for Woody to eat enough salary for the other team to want to use him as their QB for 1 season. Surrounded by enough great talent (like on the Niners) I'm sure Sanchez could squeak them into the playoffs. Remember, it's only one season.

Oh and yes I'm on meds right now. Just had surgery on Wednesday. :)

Funny with the meds :) hope you're doing we'll.

I'm all for getting rid of Sanchez, just don't think it's plausible to happen, certainly not in your scenario, I.e. to replace a starting QB. My best-case is KC gets MS as a backup for Jets picking some of his salary. This type of thing

It's his brain and emotional imbalance that are in question.

I would still rather give his roster spot to a free agent rookie. Heck I'd rather give his roster spot to a free agent rookie QB. I just don't get why we would waste a roster spot on a player that has no future here and the fans hate. Makes absolutely no sense. I get the money situation, but it still leaves us with one less roster spot which I deem more valuable than someone standing on the sideline holding a clipboard while crazy fans seethe in anger just looking at him. I don't think Woody wants that.

Now if you were to tell me that keeping Sanchez would allow Idzik to bring in a young player or two on more than a minimum wage contract through free agency and this player(s) has a lot of upside for the future, then yeah I would probably hold onto the turd through the preseason. Then I'd cut him Saturday night before the first game. :)

Well you never know sometimes with desperate teams looking for QB's. That is one position where teams do not act rationally. Look at us, we gave Sanchez a guaranteed contract coming off a terrible stretch of games when there was absolutely no reason to do so. Who the hell does that?!?

Thanks. I had surgery on a weak muscle that controls my eyelid. Probably developed it from watching the Jets play awful football all these years. I should save the vicodin for the football season. :breakdance:

Release him and then someone picks him up as a min backup? And this sucker double dips? I know it a spiteful troll in me talking, but I'd rather him holding a candle for Rex. As to the fans... Fuck em, impossible to please anyway. Do you realize that half of the people now bitching about what Idzik is doing we're screaming "Blow this shit up" just 3 months ago? Besides, I'd rather they booed Sanchez than someone else.
