I don't want him in the first to be honest. He is a very good play-maker, but he did play in a wide open system and I'm pretty wary of drafting WRs from those systems unless they have great production and measurable.

We could've said the same thing about Peter Warrick when he came out in the past, and he ended up busting. Not saying Austin is busting, but I wouldn't pick him at 9. If he's there at our second, then yes, I wouldn't get upset if he was our pick.

I apologize but you're drunk if you think he will last to the 2nd without an injury pre-draft.

If his stock stays where it is at, he probably won't. But there is over a month until the draft, and his hype is at it's peak right now from the combine. I could see him potentially falling into the second.

Ideally can't see him that late. Every time I tried to watch Geno Smith I came away more impressed with Austin and Baily than Geno himself. As someone referred to in this thread already, he has Desean Jackson like upside. Baily does to have the flat speed or extreme quickness, but he is the perfect #2 type. Geno, for all his own skill, was blessed with amazing weapons.

Agreed. Straight up, I'll take Austin over Geno any day of the week.

Also to a previous post in this thread, I don't see the comparison to Kerley. Austin would be an every down player on the outside. Kerley won't ever be that guy without injuries.

He may not last until the second round, but he'd be a reach at our draft spot, because WR's in the top ten better be can't miss guys like Johnson, Jones, Green. Guys that had ideal size, speed, and hands combo. Austin is too much of a risk for our first rd pick.

I also think this draft is deep in WR, I'd take whoever falls from the Austin, Hopkins, Allen, Patterson, Hunter group and be more than fine with it. I don't think Austin stands out enough from this group to reach for him in the first, when there is a chance one of them will drop to our pick in the second.

This ofcourse, assuming we keep our picks as is, with no deals. If there are trades with multiple picks involved, then yeah we can reach to meet specific targets (ie, say we get Smith with the first pick, and grade WRs equally, then we can reach for Austin just because he has a rapport with our QB). But if it's just our picks, I'd much rather wait for the second round.

I think part of it has to do with the system. I remember watching Kendall Wright last year in Baylor's offense and thinking this guy was going to be a monster. But speed guys in fast paced systems tend to be very productive because the defense is worn down and has less energy to react. Especially WRs that make a living on crossing routes against zone coverage.

Not saying he's terrible, but I do think wide open systems make speedy WRs to be much better than they are in a more conventional offense that we are going to run.

However the guy does have talent, and if he's there at the 2nd, I'd be more than happy to take him.

Austin is going to be a very good player. Would be a hard pill to swallow, picking a tiny receiver at 9, but if we could somehow trade back, pick up a 3rd, and then grab him, I would like it.

Not convinced at any 5'8" receiver is the best use of the number 9 pick with our needs, particularly when Kerley and Holmes both can work out of the slot, but if we can get some value on top of Austin with that 9th selection, I'd be happy.

Why don't we sign a FA to do what we want Austin to do instead of wasting the #9 pick on an unproven WR, talk about reaching. If the jets pick him at nine I will definitely give up on this FO immediately.

I just hope the pats don't end up getting him to replace welker. He would most likely be outstanding in there system

I'm not saying to pick him at 9 but who are we going to get in free agency that is like him and with what money?

All draft receivers are unproven. And there aren't many free agent receivers who are as explosive as Austin... I don't want Austin to be the only return we get from the #9 pick, but he's even more explosive than Patterson, just a pint size version.

I think they should take him at the 9. This team needs playmakers more than any Jets team I've ever seen... and more than any in the league currently.

He's small? so what... The rules are favoring guys like him now. Gone are the days where you need a big physical reciever to succeed. Austin would be deadly in the slot.

Last year they opted for the "size" and swung and missed on Hill... Here you have a guy who has been nothing but productive and has great hands and people are worried about his size. He's fine. Take him. Percy Harvin 2.0.

Seeing as it's 4:30 in the morning and I've been puking all day figured it couldn't make me puke too much extra to come on and post about the Jets for the first time in a few months.

I think Austin would be a good option to have in the mix for our first pick. Maybe not necessarily on the 9 but we could always trade back a few spots for some decent compensation and see whether a guy like Austin or maybe Ansah is left for us to take. Of those types of prospects Austin might be the most interesting from what I've seen.

He really elevated Geno Smith in all of the games I saw and eventually when I decided to watch those games iso'ing on Tavon he still stood out as a gamebreaking defensive nightmare. Kind of reminded me of Kendall Wright complementing RGIII although in this case I think it was Austin elevating Smith rather than vice versa.

Looking forward I'd say that a WR core of Hill, Kerley, Austin would be almost ideal in terms of having affordable and dynamic options to design offenses around. Would also let us part ways with Holmes asap and spend some of that money on a high end TE, HB, or OL.

Since Jones can't fall to us anymore picking up Austin and an extra pick might be one of the best outcomes that we could expect for our first round along with a couple of other scenarios i.e. Jordan, maybe Warmack, etc.

I finally watched some tape on this kid and he is a cant miss player. He is exactly what the jets need. The type of player that is a threat to score every time he touches the ball and strikes fear into a defense. We need to find a way to draft this kid. Weather it's at 9 or trading back. He officially has jumped up to #1 on my board. Only guys I would think about taking over him are jones and Jordan. Things just got even more interesting

Im hoping Miami will draft him. I believe Ireland sent 3 scouts to his recent pro day. I highly doubt the Jets will have the cajones to at 9.

    Wallace
    Hartline
    Austin
    Gibson
    Bess
    Keller
    Clay

Nasty. Jets better pray for a Revis resigning miracle. Tannehill's gonna blow up big time in the way you always hoped Sanchize would. Mark it.

I really love austin and think he will help our offense tremendously....he will def thrive in the wco and we can use him in so many diff ways and he has the ability to score every time he has the ball in his hands.....one thing the jets need is SPEED

Yeah that lasted a week til you guys proved you didn't belong with the big boys the following week.

Listen Jets fans don't give a flying F about the Phins. We have been in your very situation and couldn't get the job done. They have upgraded their talent for sure but talk to me when it translates into Ws and rings.

Until then I will continue to believe that it is a desperate GM trying to save his job and generate buzz for a desperate franchise.
